A cross-country redeye with a layover in New York is my definition of hell, and was the hell in which we had been trapped for 10 hours prior to being directed to Howley's. Exhausted, we were in need of comfort food, comfort service and comforting surroundings, all of which Howley's provided. A kitchy diner with a better-than-diner menu, Howley's is inviting, friendly spot that serves up a good breakfast. The poached eggs served on top of a crab, pepper and onion hash was fantastic, and is sure to be a dish I'll replicate at home. When the kitchen cut a grapefruit for our order and found their grapefruits weren't up to par they asked if they could substitute melon, and sent out half a (very tasty) cantaloupe instead. And when our waitress found out we were fresh out of transit hell she was kind, sympathetic, and more than willing to let us wilt at our table for as long as we needed to unwind. I've had breakfast at Howley's twice since arriving in WPB, and have enjoyed the meals on both occasions. Both the food and the staff have exceeded my diner expectations and made for good morning dining experiences. read more

We'll start with the customer service. I placed a take out order pretty late at night, and the girl working there was very pleasant. No issues there. The food was nothing special. Pretty small portions by diner standards, except for the burger. Their burger was enormous, but wasn't even close to being cooked enough. So I had to eat around the edges and give the middle part to my dogs. Now, their chocolate peanut butter pie. GROSS. I am obsessed with peanut butter & chocolate and this "pie" tasted like I was just eating peanut butter straight out of the jar. And its $6!! $6 for a teeny tiny slice the size of those pies that Burger King sells for $1 and taste like heaven compared to this one. read more

Wonderful. I, honestly, am flabbergasted that this place doesn't have a higher overall rating. To those reviewers complaining that it isn't a spot for dieters, all I have to say is you are wrong and possibly crazy. You can't order a hamburger or cheese smothered sandwich and complain about the grease factor. Let's get real people. Have you guys heard of salads? Speaking of, I have had both the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad and the Spinach and Goat cheese salad. Both are absolutely delectable. The cheese smothered sandwiches are good, too. I loved the tuna melt and the french fries here and truly delicious. Bonus, for those of you 21+ they have a wonderful selection of beers and full bar. Hooray! I miss Howley's ! They serve up your classic diner grub - and some come with added flair. For example, you can order the Mac n Cheese and if you like, can throw in some crab or bacon. OMG. So good. And their breakfast - is THE BOMB. Everyone who works here is great - I have never had bad service. In the bar/counter area there are TVs that are kept on for news and sports -but don't distract from the rest of the stuff going on - including the rotating local artwork on the walls or the eclectic jukebox tunes. Keep a look out for their occasional beer dinners. They host a brewery and serve up many rounds of beer with their best food. So worth it- great food, you learn about beer and have fun time. They are always rotating in and out great beer from near and far. This place is great for drinks and dinner with friends, a late night/ post drinking snack - or to bring the kids for some amazing breakfast. Something for everyone is here. Please, Servers of the World, Please ..... write down the goddamn order. Can we stop with the memorization tactics that normally don't work nor impress? Received the wrong beer (asked for a saison, got an IPA). Didn't get the extra side of sauce we wanted. Bloody Mary came extra spicy when we asked for it mild. Some pluses: Brussels sprouts were phenom. Garlic-y and smoky to the tongue. My California croissant sandwich was bland and dry. My wife's Reuben looked meaty and delicious. People's burgers were wholly consumed. Service was slow.... painfully slow. We were one table outside (of, maybe, 5 total tables?) and I could have brewed beer faster than it was served to us. I'm glad we went and I got to experience some of my wife's old haunts.... but next time, I think I'll patronize another establishment. read more

I thought enough of this place to write this post!! I went 4 times the entire weekend. It was perfect for me because my hotel was next door. The price points were good. The food was excellent. The service was amazing. Shout outs to Eddie and Jade. It's only closed when you should be home, so it is perfect anytime of day. There were many friendly locals there and the establishment supports local artists. Did I mention I was staying at the hotel next door and could drink there til 5am on the weekend? How let's is an all-around cool place. It used to be a diner I believe, the outside is made of old brick that has been painted white to give a very cool texture and feel, and is inviting. The owner of this diner also owns several other establishments in Palm Beach County. I love all of his restaurants and bars... The best thing about this place I would say is the atmosphere, less the food. The food is better than good, but definitely not great... And I feel that the prices are a little more than I want to pay for the quality. I really dig that this is a venue for events and art shows. You can sit outside with your dog when the weather is not swampy. I feel that if the food hit my palette in a more desirable way then my stars would quickly go from 3 to 5. Even though I and never really blown away, I will continue to come here for the friendly service, the great atmosphere and general all around good times I've had here. read more

Wow! What a disappointment! I've been here before this past aturday (last time about 7 months ago), and highly recommended to my fellow diners after a show at Kravitz... based upon my prior visit. My, my, how things have changed. The food was great, as before. However, the restaurant, inside and out was, well... in a word, dirty! That includes tables, floors, windows, window sills, bathroom, outside decor and landscaping. Yuck! Also, our server was inattentive, unfriendly, and unkempt. Come to think of it, the rest of the staff looked a lot like this, too. Interesting, eclectic artwork filled the walls on my last visit. In its place now, depressing, juvenile attempts that I'm betting no one would find appealing. The food can be great, but if everything else is wrong, well... you can't make it for too long on a good reputation gone bad. I really do wish they'd clean up. I hate to give a poor review, but in this case, I really have to tell it like it is. read more

Quite simply: don't waste your time. I'm really not quite sure why this place has so many 4-5 star ratings, unless all the reviews are also frequent diners at McDonalds, chili's, and TGI Fridays. The restaurant brags about not using microwaves, and cooking it in front of you, but the "kitchen" out front wasn't used the entire time. The service was slow, prices were high, and the quality was somewhere between fast food and chain restaurant. Definitely will not be back. read more

Friggin' amazing!!! This is honestly the best diner I've every been too! I have yet to find one that compares in or out of FL! If you're going to eat there try their Mac & cheese it has an amazing style and taste to it that will have you coming back again and again! Plus the jumbo lump crab cake sandwich is to die for! I love Howley's. This vintage diner does everything right. My favorites are surely from the breakfast menu. Pancakes are spectacular, and they make a mean eggs benedict. From the lunch and dinner menus, I can heartily recommend the fresh fish sandwich and the "Shake-n-bake" pork chop, which is accompanied by Howley's home made apple sauce. If you're lucky, you'll get one of their sassier waitrons. If not, enjoy the time warp back to the 50's. Cooked in sight must be right. read more

Let me start by saying I go out to breakfast probably once a week...and typically order some form of an egg white omelet, fruit, and 1 piece of wheat or rye.... This was The Best (egg white) omelette i've probably ever eaten. Egg whites, shallots, goat cheese, and apples. Ntm the homemade, smooth-as-butter, fresh fruit jams were also so good that we ate all of our toast bc we wanted to keep using it. I couldnt break the tie between the blackberry and apple. Wow. On an atmosphere note, I loved that they played low-key "cool" alternative. ie: jack johnson, the gorillaz,etc. Not crappy elevator music to "please" everyone, but not obnoxious music that would piss people off. It was at the perfect volume as well. Loud enough to hear while chewing, not so loud you couldn't chat between bites. To make up a couple of things to complain ab, as if I'm some know-it-all critic, the waitress could have been more efficient and the decor could use a little freshening up. It was not in bad shape, could just be done better (ie: "Continental" in the Phila/AC area). OH- My bf did not enjoy his bloody mary. He tries one every chance he gets and they did not measure up. They had an area paper/guide with a TON of stuff to do in the area. We wish we found this much earlier in our trip, opposed to the last day. We biked here from the Omphoy Resort. It was a good ride (ab 1-1.5hr one way, i think, at a cruiser/moderate pace) and way to see the area. Covered more ground than walking and saw more things than if we were in a cab. All in all, we will be trying to recreate this omelette pronto. read more

This place is F I R E . This place blows every other diner outta the water. Atmosphere is great, very cozy and retro feel. Food was killer. I decided to order take-out, however, once i walked through the door i figured I would sit at the bar and have a quick bite to eat.. I went with the fried green tomatoes & OH MY GOD. Phenomenal. Where do I even begin?? The "Eggs Howley's" is my absolute favorite thing on their breakfast menu, which is their perfect rendition of a crabcake benedict. The hollandaise sauce is beyond amazing, and the quality of the crabcakes is by far the best out of any breakfast place I have ever tried. Howley's is a little out of the way for me, but I find myself there a few times a month for breakfast, because no where else serves a crabcake benedict that remotely compares in quality and taste. The service is almost always perfect, which is nice, since it's always steadily busy there. The bloody marys are out of this world. If you want to be sure your time at Howley's is the absolute best, make sure you ask for Jazz... his sense of humor and his phenomenal bloody mary making skills will make for an even better experience! read more

This place has everything, great food, service and the feel is just local. We are from out of town left the palm beach zoo and we're really hungry. Thanks to the iPhone we found this place and are really happy we did. Had the mahi sandwich delicious with the sweet potatoes fries! My wife had the philly cheese steak which was great, really tender and a great portion. We also had the spinach artichoke dip and a cup of their famous award winning chili, each were delicious and the portion of the artichoke dip was crazy big. Great place to go for a late or drunk meal. They used to be open 24 hrs on weekends and til 2am on weekdays. (I'm not sure what they're summer hrs are though). I would recommend the patty melt or the turkey Reuben. They also make awesome vanilla shakes. This is a comfort food type place, if you're "dieting" you may want to go elsewhere. The decor is an old school vibe. Funky yet a comfortable atmosphere. I would have to say the food value as degraded in the past yr. There is seating both inside and outside. I've been to this diner a lot and like it for being mostly consistent throughout the years. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. They also have been there for years. That is always a good sign. The food is better than adequate most of the time. They serve breakfast all day which is plus. Today, for the first time I had spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were large and tasted good. However, there was more filler then meat. They also had Tabasco and other hot sauces, another plus. The two large pieces of garlic bread were absolutely wonderful. Just tried this place out for lunch today. I'm about as far from "hipster" as one can get, but I still liked the atmosphere, even the stoner 2 tables down. Service was super friendly and attentive. Despite the fact that we arrive to the restaurant around 2 a.m. I was more than pleased with the overall food and service. I ordered the howleys version of the Big Mac with Tator tot fries and split the nachos with chili with my girlfriend. Service is usually a 5 Food never more then 3 I've been to Howley's several times and one thing that is always consistent is the amazing customer service. You always get greeted the second you walk in and you get a warm feeling that the employees are a real team because they seem to all constantly walk around to make sure all customers are being attended to. The food is just meh... I've never hated anything I ordered but the portions are pretty huge and when I don't want to take my left overs home that's usually a sign I don't want it again. I always try something different in hopes to find the one thing that's really great on the menu but I have not found that yet. So far I try to stick to the comfort food cause they seem to do those a little bit better. They offer a great selection of craft beers but since I'm a beer on tap kinda gal and they only serve in a bottle I stick with their delish flavored teas. I'll continue my quest to find the yummiest dish there cause the people that work at Howley's are on point with their service and the place is kitchy cute. read more

I've been to Howley's a handful of times in my days. And right up front my only problem I have with Howley's is that I just don't seem to get there enough. Yeah I know that's not Howley's problem, it's all on me, but I'm just saying. If diners are typically thought of as a piece of Americana then I don't know what Howley's is. It has all the things that you love about and old school dinner from the sign and logo to the furniture to even the little bar inside but it's as if Howley's decided to rebel against their traditional diner brethren and get tattoos and piercings and go tag up some walls. It developed a drinking problem and maybe inhaled some unknown smoke. Whatever it is it led to the creation of menu that is as unique as the diner's motif. The menu is huge and that is typically a problem with a lot of places. Too many items can lead to dishes just not being done right because the cooks are overworked with having to know the recipes of too many items. This just isn't the case here. Whether it be a massive burrito stuffed with beef and mashed potatoes or country fried steak and eggs they do it right. To make things even more different Howley's has a full bar. You can have a bottle of craft beer or one of a few select cocktails that have been created by the staff. The prices are tad higher than you might expect for a diner but they are certainly not skimping you on quality or quantity. The mostly tattooed and pierced staff seem genuinely nice and have a great sense of humor. A misprint on the menu was left in because of how funny it sounds (I'll let you find it yourself). The service is quite quick as well even when they are at their busiest. Howley's reminds me a lot of Shopsins in New York with their humor, anti-culture and big menu. Sure it isn't 900+ items like Shopsins but still quite big. If you love diners, and who doesn't, and you want to try something new Howley's is exactly that for you. read more

I like Howley's!! I was driving down the Dixie Highway last night and saw Howley's and I said to myself, "Next time I'm hungry, I think I might stop there and get me some food!" And so today I got hungry and went to Howley's. There were about 7 of us that ate there. We had to wait for a straggler, but the waiter was cool with that and kept my coffee cup full, which delighted me. The restaurant is like a diner, but it's cool looking inside. The staff look like a bunch a groovers, and they were, but they all seemed to be having a good time and if I lived here I am sure I would eat here a lot. The portions are gigantic. The food was very good. I appreciated the service. I had eggs and grits and bacon. Others in my party had some big ol' omelets. And the banana pancakes looked wonderful! How many of you Yelpers saw a place on "Diners-Drive-Ins & Dives" that Guy Fieri totally raved about ? You were in that town on biz, and HAD to go eat there. You put the addy in your GPS, and it took you in circles. Once you finally located the place, ordered what Guy ate on the show, and it totally sucked. Frankly, I've always had better luck with Yelp, especially after learning how to read and "interpret" the reviews. And most of the Yelp reviews for Howley's were spot on. I'm an equal opportunity employer, and love a great diner as much as an upscale restaurant. In fact, I prefer a diner/greasy spoon for breakfast or a sandwich. Everyone has an different expectation of what a diner should offer, how it should look, and what the service should be like. Howley's has that kitsch 50's decor, has that "sleeze with ease" atmosphere , and cooks with fresh ingredients,The only thing missing is a waitress in her 50's with a rhinestone name tag, who always calls you "Hon". Notwithstanding, numerous of the employees had lots of tats and piercings, so I guess that's as good as waitresses who call you "Hon". Our server had none of the above, but was a great gal who answered all of our questions, and was extremely friendly. My faves at a diner would include any homemade soup, omelettes made with fresh ingredients, and a club sandwich made with real turkey breast. We sampled the seafood chowder and the chili which were both delicious. The veggie omelette was chock full of fresh ingredients, and the club sandwich was made with house roasted "real" turkey breast, and what tasted like brown sugar bacon. The only disappointment were the steak fries ( but even when hot out of the fryer steak fries never are as good as thinly cut , crispy fries). Fairly priced and great quality, Howley's is a terrific diner with an imaginative, well prepared menu. read more

This is great unique stop! The food is always good! The art is super cool. The dessert is my favorite part. I like ordering the BLT with avocado and a side of applesauce. The peanut butter pie is super awesome as is the cupcakes. Anything on the menu is good.... and the art is available for purchase, which means the art is always changing! read more
