From top to bottom, garlic shrimp, chicken katsu and Hapa plate.
    Mac J.

Food was okay... depending on who's cooking some dishes were salty: chicken katsu and Ka'lua pork. The garlic shrimp was also okay but the shrimp is not Kahuku shrimp. The beach bbq chicken was also okay but it definitely could improve. The macaroni salad and green salad were okay but need better packaging for takeout. Dining area is small and needs improvement... since I was planning to dine in but changed my mind as I entered. Ventilation needs improvement. The kitchen hoods were not adequately venting out the smoke which flowed into the dining area. Price-to-portion for each item was way off compared to what I get at the other Hawaiian restaurants... maybe their operating costs might be high... hope things improve. 2 stars for my first experience. I'll try again in a few months.

Seemed like only the owner and his daughter working at the time, but service was good, and food was great. Owner came out to do table touches himself. I'm from Hawaii and their food tastes like I'm back in the islands.

Katsu Chicken with side salad and macaroni salad

I've heard this place, "Howzit Hawaiian Kitchen" had some good Hawaiian food, but after I finished my meal I was completely misled. Because the food was not just good it was absolutely delicious. But let's start from the beginning, this place is a little hidden in the sense that it's not in a huge place but it is worth the visit. This establishment is on a strip mall but it needs to be on your list. As you walk in you notice the menu on the wall and some seating. The people behind the counter are very helpful and quite kind. Now the food, I ordered a dish that I extremely enjoy at other restaurants, so I wanted to try it here. The dish in question was the "Katsu Chicken" and they came in with flying colors. The dish comes with macaroni salad a delicious green salad with a flavorful dressing and the chicken on a bed of rice. Going back to the chicken, it was amazing, the crust was crispy but delicious, I think I found a new favorite restaurant for my Hawaiian meals. So in conclusion I highly recommend this place.

I had high, high hopes for this place. We ended up here because it was recommended by our server at another restaurant we dined at over the weekend. She noticed my husband's tattoos and randomly asked him if he was from Hawaii. Which my husband is, from Hawaii. She told us she grew up in Hawaii and this place is as close to local (Hawaiian) food as she has had here in SATX. I will most definitely give credit where it's due. The taste of the food we ordered was good! Our cashier was friendly and kind. Service was good. However, the overall experience was just ok. If there is one thing I will splurge on is food. Anyone that knows me, knows that about me. Two plate lunches, drinks (canned Hawaiian juices) and dessert for $70 (excluding tip) is insane to me though! Even in Hawaii, where EVERYTHING is beyond expensive, a plate lunch meal for 2 is not this much. Additionally, the portions do not justify the cost... I think that was the most disappointing part of this whole experience. Look at the photos of our plate lunch, I got "double shrimp" instead of an additional protein and I got SIX shrimp!! I lived in Hawaii 10 yrs.... just for reference. I used to drive to the north shore for garlic shrimp... never ONCE did I ever get 6 shrimp for a "single"portion, EVER. This broke my heart to be honest. Just sharing my honest thoughts and experience. My husband expressed his disappointment as well and that made me sad too. It's a bit of a drive for us so we probably won't return.

First time coming here and was surprised at the size of the restaurant, pretty small and very limited seating. Seemed more of a catering or take out kind of place but it was very cute inside and could feel the aloha. The staff seemed very hospitable and I could tell some of them were probably from Hawaii. The food was bomb, great flavor and the Mac salad was good; could have used more mayo but was good. I really enjoyed the chicken and shrimp the galbi was good but the chicken was my favorite. The only downside to this place was the portions was manini! (Small) and the price was ridiculous. We got 2 plates, 2 musubis, and 2 Hawaiian sun can drinks, and a slice of chocolate haupia pie. Brah tell me why the total was $80 bucks! I've never even spent that much in Hawaii for something like this. Usually when I eat plate lunch I'm stuffed but I left still hungry granted we never eat our musubis, cause was saving them for later but brah my wife ordered double shrimp and only got 6 pieces so regularly an order is only comes with 3? Ah no can! Probably won't return which sucks cause I love supporting locals.

A taste test of the Tasty Chicken! My favorite

This place is fantastic. The food is made fresh with authentic Hawaiian flavors, the owners are wonderful, and the service is excellent. There are not many tables, but plenty of space for couples or a small group. Let's support a local family-owned business and enjoy a delicious meal!

Cutest Hawaiian cafe with a delicious menu!

Small Hawaiian cafe owned by a delightful family. Delicious fresh food with a great menu. Clean and inviting dining room. Service is friendly and fast. I highly recommend if you like Hawaiian food. The kalbi are awesome portions which you don't see often and the garlic shrimp were big. Great quality and taste!

During the week, we visited @howzithikitchen, one of the participating restaurants for AAPI month. We received 10% off our order. Elena was the cashier, who took our order. Hubby had the Guava Nectar, Dad had the Passion Orange, and I had the Lilikoi Passion Fruit drinks. Hubby and Dad shared the Hana Mix Plate with the Kailua Pork & Cabbage, Beach BBQ Chicken, and Tasty Chicken. I tried some crispy chicken skin and it was very flavorful. The pork was slightly on the dry side. I had the Kalbi Beef Short Rib Plate, which was excellent. I was curious about the Chocolate Haupia Pie so we tried it. I know it has coconut but it seemed to taste similar to a French Silk Pie.

The food is so good ... as Hawaiian food .... yummm ...

The food is amazing. The services and the ambiance is pretty need ... The owner is very nice ... we'll be back again ...

Malia Pig & cabbage plate was full of taste!

Well I didn't believe it was good so I had to try it again! Well I was right it was that good! Great food, great people and great desserts! Can't wait to tray everything else!

Chickens and spam, what's more Hawaiian than that?

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. It's everything I love in a restaurant: 1) it's a hole in the wall; 2) it's authentic ethnic food; 3) it's run by a lovely family; 4) the food is cooked with love from recipes passed down through generations. We had the bbq beach chicken, side salad with wonderful sesame dressing and the chocolate haupia pie. That pie is special in a way that somebody in the past made it for their loved ones and somebody in the present cared enough about that person to keep their memory alive through a recipe. And that's how this restaurant is. Cooked with Aloha

    Garlic shrimp was my favorite!

This was a hit! The whole family found something they loved. Very authentic food and atmosphere. The friendly people working there made you feel special and welcome. Try everything! We were sharing our plates with the pride of seeing who ordered the best items. Win, win situation.

Small place but legit eats here. This is a local family owned restaurant with some delicious Hawaiian food. You are greeted as soon as you come in which is always appreciated. We even met one of the owners. The food was seasoned very well and the portions are good. I got the Haya combo that comes with three meats so I could get a good taste of everything. It came with the bbq chicken, fried chicken and galbi. This is a great value and it comes with mac salad and an actual salad with a sesame dressing. I enjoyed everything I had. They also have salmon and noodle dishes I want to try. So I have no choice but to return so I can enjoy more of the menu.

You do have to pay extra for extra bbq sauce. We got the sweet bbq sauce an it was okay. I wasn't a fan of the Mac and cheese, I felt it needed some seasoning. The potato salad was good.
