He recommendations on items on the menu, explained the specials. He went as far as recommending what roll to eat last and he had that dead on. The last roll I ate was the Uni which he recommended me waiting on that until the end and coming from an inland state, even the best of the restaurant la don't have the freshness that this place has, down to the ginger and wasabi. Overall Score: 2.3 Another Handroll bar to compete with the likes of Kazunori. Not quite ready yet as they have a lot of areas they can improve on. Maybe it's because its a new establishment that needs to get some experience before they can optimize the process and improve the experience of their patrons. Let's start with the seating; the bar is outside and only covered by umbrellas, so not all seats get equal shading throughout the day. I saw many people hunched over/leaning one way just to stay in the shade. The service definitely needs improvement; after being seated, it took a while to even get our orders taken. The waitress spilled water on us at one point, and they handed one person the wrong roll - when the roll maker realized he had placed the wrong roll on the paper, he then picked it up and handed it to the correct person. This is a huge problem since the paper that the roll touched may not be clean. That customer may have put his/her hands on the paper or even accidentally may have spit on to the paper, or dropped some of their previously touched food on the paper making it unhygienic. Operational things aside, the food is the most important part for me. I found the quality of the fish to be lacking. The scallops were not fresh. The uni and yellowtail were mediocre. None of the rolls really impressed me or stood out as a must-have. I would recommend avoiding lunch times if you plan on sitting at the bar unless you're flying solo. Otherwise, it's limited seating so don't plan on bringing your posse. The packaging is really cute. Hrb is a nice outdoor seated patio. It is hard to not compare it to kazunori. The selections are very similar with the additions of a spicy tuna and mushroom hand roll. They also add for 50 cents more an option of adding soy paper. As a whole, fish quality is good however the rice and seaweed are a bit under par. The toro sashimi is dressed in a nice truffle oil but other than that the hand rolls are a bit underwhelming. The sushi quality was really disgusting. I got sick from my hand rolls. I was told that you can't order the 6 hand roll combination to go because it's not fresh when you take it to go. You have to eat it at the bar. I decided to eat here on New Year's Eve. What a mistake eating here on New Year's Eve. I waited a long time for my food and when I got it the food was not fresh. This mall is my neighborhood mall, movie theater and grocery store, so my family and I are there quite often. My girlfriend and I are sushi lovers so for months, or however long it been since there was a sign up telling what would occupying this little space, we've been looking forward. Through the holidays we were pretty busy so hadn't had a chance to stop by. But we came in the other night for a quick, light dinner before a movie. And man did we regret it. Interacting with four employees, I can only say one was polite. And that was the hostess. We dealt with two servers and a sushi chef who were all extremely rude. Maybe they were having a bad day, maybe they hate their jobs. Who knows. But their customer service was terrible. We ordered a doubles of a good handful of their menu as well as their house lemonade. I loved their lemonade but didn't come here to love their lemonade. Their hand rolls were good. We've had better. Their house sushi bowls were not as good. Disguised with too much of their sauce. I get location plays alot in an establishments prices but this place was definitely over priced. Bottom line, my girlfriend and I will not return. And I for sure will and do not recommend them. They said they didn't have it on the menu but they have ikura so they could do it, we proceed to get a small Nigiri on a hand roll sized sheet of nori. So be warned: you may end up spending all your money here. Absolutely delicious, fresh, well presented hand rolls and sashimi. I ordered the signature hand roll, blue crab hand roll, lobster hand roll, as well as the salmon tartare and fatty toro tartare. Everything was perfect I love the fact that they offer soy paper as well as nori. I tried the soy paper with the lobster and blue crab and it was a wonderful combination. It was opening weekend so they didn't have beer and sake, but they let me know that they are in the process of getting their liquor license and those beverages will be offered soon! Is it not a good idea to take sushi to go? I had hopes of a grab and go scenario yet wasn't able to have my wish come true because HRB doesnt allow it. Well then, okey dokey! Honestly, I wasn't excited to sit at a bar within close proximity of people talking and eating (yes I'm still all about that mask life and staying 6 feet away). The entrance was confusing, there is what seems to be 2 entrances and both had a rope blocking them when I arrived so I chose one side, moved the rope aside and walked up the stairs to the bar. There were 2 people (male and female) working behind the bar, the female was taking someone's order and when she was done, she turned to me and I instantly told her I'd never been there before and had no idea which way was the correct way to enter. She let me know that I came in through the exit (oopsie!) and offered me a seat at the bar. I told her I was checking in for the Yelp event and that I wasn't comfortable sitting so close to people. I requested to take my order to go and was told that they, "didn't allow it because it would ruin the experience". Ummm, hmmm, ok. The experience of sitting within close proximity to people and eating sushi at a bar? Again, ummm... ok. I agreed to take a seat, she gave me a menu which I though was weird because there were specific food items for this occasion, not a pick what you want from the menu kinda deal. I reminded her I was there for the Yelp event and would just have the signature, salmon and albacore rolls that were on the Yelp invite so, pass on the menu. I ordered a sparkling water and waited for just a few minutes before a black lacquered box was put in front of me. Oooh snazzy! I opened it and found the box had 3 separate compartments, one piece of sushi in each compartment. The presentation was very pretty (I'm guessing thats the "experience"?) yet I would have been just as happy taking it to go, honestly. I mean, the box was shiny but I would have much rather have eaten it somewhere I felt more comfortable (and not so close to people who were not wearing masks). The sushi was good, not unlike any other I've had aside from the box it was served in. I ate quickly (totally uncomfortable sitting at the bar near maskless people), the waitress came back and asked if I wanted anything else then put the menu on the bar for me- AGAIN.
