Cucumber Serrano Margarita and Waldo's special ale

Max! On Sunday Funday is a must see, super friendly and fun bartender who makes a great cocktail! Happy hour 1-3 Sunday My husband and I celebrated finding our first LA apartment at Surly so it has a super special place in our hearts The beer selection is incredible but this visit I tried the Cucumber Serrano Margarita and it was perfect! It's so nice to find a bartender that makes you feel welcome, so even though I think this bar is great any day I'd suggest visiting Max on Sunday Funday!

I love a good craft beer bar and the goat seems cool. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went on a weekday so the service was immediate, but it was a ghost town except for local alcoholics.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bartender was great. Said he was from Bulgaria very critical thinker. We had a great conversation and I would definitely like to go back when it is busy.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Always a fun time at the Surly Goat![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Located near the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Fairfax...this bar has the best line up of beers a person can ask for! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Went for a friend's birthday on a Saturday and the place was so much fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great people watching as well![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This bar has the most incredible selection of craft beers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's very chill, welcoming and laid-back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It has been open since 2010 and features local brews, some more exotic brands, classic beers, wine and a full bar. The staff are very nice and they helped me discover some amazing new beers that I had never heard of. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is lots of seating, a comfy lounge area, outdoor patios, dart boards, arcade games, and sometimes they have karaoke and DJs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had a first date here once and we ended up going out for a few years (!) so it's a great place to meet someone for the first time because it's very relaxed and you can discover a new kind of beer together![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And I'm not even a huge beer drinker myself, but it is fun to taste different kinds of craft beers....and this is the perfect place for that.

Amazing bar with great happy hour deals, always pretty lit here too on any night of the week. Best to come on Thursdays or any night on the weekend tho. Despite the crowd the bartenders are on top of it serving people pretty quickly. They have some house made beer and house made seltzers too. Tried the stable trestles and the goose island cola stout both pretty great!

    Happy hour, taking advantage!

Great drinks, [[HIGHLIGHT]]love the outside patio and separation of seating if you wanted your own intimate area for private gathering without hassle of having to book something.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Staff here are always super friendly. Decent selection of beer, I actually haven't tried any cocktails here but hope to try some day. I really like the overall vibe here. I've been with friends on packed nights and I've also stopped in by myself during happy hour to just relax outside.

Been here several times and each time I'm blow away how juicy, crispy, flavorful, or fresh everything tastes. I've never been even remotely disappointed by anything I've ever ordered. It is absolutely on par with the food I ate in Germany so whenever I want a throw back, I come here! I bring everyone here that's interested in quality German food. Price tag is a little hefty but for me, but as an occasional treat, it's well worth it. And the portion sizes are nothing to scoff at so I always feel I got my money's worth.

There was nothing really authentic about their curry wurst. Despite the sauce was really good, I would never order again. I was cramped between others and as the designated driver, I asked for some ice water. The server, still expecting as all others, a tip of 18% plus, would not want to serve, he asked me to help myself on a water station. That would mean that all others would need to get up twice - for me to get a water. I understand that particularly during the World Cup, they do not need my/ our business. Thankfully, there are many options. I wow to never return.

The bartender was loud and rambunctious, keeping his regulars amused. Megan greeted us at the door and let us pick our own table, then became our server. She was very friendly and took generally good care of us, though she did occasionally go MIA for a few minutes while caught up in conversations with regulars -- but in a casual place like this, no biggie. My wife ordered the Belmont Burger, which came with bacon, Gruyere cheese, onion marmalade and pickles (+ arugula and mayo that my wife deleted). The prime patty was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and had a clean, fresh taste, though it could have used a dash more seasoning. The toppings were all first rate, and the onion marmalade had a nice sweetness to it. Fresh cut fries were crispy and tasty, but also could have used more salt. For my part, I was in the mood for wings, extra crispy -- and that's exactly how they came. I liked that they were served dry, and that I could dip into the sauce on the side, a practice that keeps the wings as crispy as possible for as long as possible. I should also mention that the portion was very generous: 7 wings of good size for $15, which felt right. Rather than traditional Buffalo, I chose Spicy K-Chile Sauce and I enjoyed its nice balance between sweet & spice. But again, given that the wings were served dry, they would have benefited from getting a hit of salt right out of the fryer. All in all, a well-made, very tasty, straightforward meal in a fun environment. Had it been Friday or Saturday I would have enjoyed hanging at the bar and tossing back a few, but with a busy Monday morning on the horizon I decided to head home and make plans for next time.

Huge shoutout to Michael behind the bar, hands down one of the friendliest bartenders around. He's attentive, quick with recommendations, and genuinely makes you feel welcome the second you sit down. I initially ordered a margarita and asked Michael if he could make it. He said yes and mentioned that he does not drink, so he would not be able to taste-test it. After receiving the drink, I let him know that it was not to my liking the mixer tasted off and the drink was overly sweet. I clearly explained what was wrong with it and asked instead for a tequila and pineapple juice, shaken. When preparing the second drink, Michael poured it rather than shaking it and then served it in a small glass, leaving some of the drink in the shaker instead of using a larger glass so the full amount could be served. At checkout, I was charged for both drinks. When I questioned this, I was told the first drink could not be removed because I "did not specify" that I didn't like it despite the fact that I had explained the issue with the margarita and requested a replacement. Michael was rude and had an unpleasant attitude during this interaction. I have never been to an establishment where I was required to pay for a drink that I did not like or drink after clearly explaining what was wrong with it. I believe I should be refunded for the margarita that I did not enjoy or consume. I hope this matter can be resolved promptly and professionally. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response. No where in the bar does it says all sales are final either!

Despite being pretty busy, bartender Aaron did a great job of pouring drinks, ordering and serving food, and still making good conversation when he had a moment to spare. And even with the TV's loudly playing the match, the dark wood and comfortable stools created a relaxing atmosphere to combat the hectic traffic along Ventura Blvd. I decided to have their Grilled Cheese with Irish Bacon, which also comes with your choice of tomato or onion; I chose grilled onions. The bread was buttery and lightly grilled to an enjoyable crisp, while the cheddar was properly melted (something that often doesn't happen). Thick-cut Irish Bacon was nicely cooked without being tough, and the sweetness of the grilled onions proved to be a welcome foil for the saltiness of the cheese and bacon. With the onions and Irish bacon, this is a far more substantial sandwich than your average grilled cheese, and I had a touch of trouble finishing -- especially given the well-done & crispy fries that came on the side. But as this meal is about the same price as other places, you're definitely getting much more bang for your buck here, and the food is higher quality to boot. I've always liked Fox & Hounds, and it's nice to know their food and staff have remained top notch as the years have passed. If you've never been, it's most definitely worth a try -- and if you haven't been in a while, it's time to go back for a very satisfying pub experience.
