Saturday night about a week before the Solstice: Near enough to the heart of Weho Boys' Town, Rage, Mickys, Gold Coast, Fubar, but the Surly Goat swings more to the hetero although it welcomes every one. Various smaller, dark rooms & outdoor patio for a varied environment. Music doesn't get too loud till after 9pm when they crank up the volume. The ubiquitous guard/doorman who ups his game prominently stands tall by the entrance to play the heavy also after nine to give the Surly Goat an impression of exclusivity. My bartendress was courteous, efficient, perfunctory in a nice way. Full service bar although a full range of mixology my be problematic since they are involved & take too long to make or prepare. This is a dive bar with cheap drinks and fun dance floor. Came on a Saturday night at about 10:30p and thought it would be packed but it was really quite reasonable (aka no one bumping into you spilling your drink) but then by 11p it was filled to the brim and I guess that's just LA for ya. The dance floor is pretty big and the DJ had some fantastic throwback tunes (read: 90s boy bands) that the very down to earth (read: drunk) crowd was happy to dance and sing too. It was a nice, non-pretentious energy - I'm in my 30s and was with a bunch of mid-20yos so I wouldn't say this is a super young crowd but it was fun! They have a shuffleboard we played with and a patio for when you need a break from the heat of the dance floor but this is a pretty tiny place. I parked in a metered spot around the corner since they stop charging after 9 or something. The neighborhood has some good options for parking and walking but it's probably best to Uber. All in all a fun, no frills place to get a divey drink. Not too much to say beyond that. read more

She is always willing to help you get your song in. All of her other karaoke nights gratuity is voluntary. She is also fair on the cue. Many other Kj's do not even show the politeness as she does. Many put their friends ahead, make fun of the patrons, Fake technical difficulties. Many wont put your song in unless they see a huge tip. But none of these negative things are from Dina. When I moved here a year ago, I found this place on Google. Since then I have become a regular. The star of this bar is definitely the people. The Surly Got has some of the best people in LA as their bartenders. The staff is world class. As a beer nerd, it helps that they have 25+ beers on tap plus a good Bottle selection.
