That said, the sandwich was just ok, and other passengers on my flight got chicken sandwiches from another restaurant one gate further, and their sandwiches and fries meals looked better AND cost slightly less. Service was minimal. I ordered from a touch screen, then they told me (not so friendly) to wait and they would call my ticket number when my food was ready. We stopped here to grab a bite because we were too tired to walk and this was close to our gate. We ordered fish tacos and a bacon cheeseburger. While the staff was friendly, they were pretty sloppy. When the food came, we realized they got us the regular cheeseburger instead of the bacon cheeseburger which we had ordered. We were too tired to make a fuss about it. While waiting for my connection flight to Raleigh Durham at Chicago Midway airport, I decided to stop at Hubbard Inn to grab a beer and do some work on my laptop. Hubbard Inn is a wonderful bar area in the middle of the Gate B terminal of the Chicago Midway airport and does a very successful business from what I can tell because all the bar stools are completely full and it is hard to find an empty stool. I did not order any food, but from what I could see, the hot wings looked very good and the sandwiches looked delicious as well. The ambiance is what you can expect from an airport bar; very busy and loud and giant TV'S with sports events being shown on at all times. Shelia, the bartender, was a ray of sunshine and gave me excellent customer service. She definitely had a great relationship with all the patrons at the bar and demonstrated excellent professionalism at all times. I would come back to Hubbard Inn just to be waited on by Shelia because she was that good of a bartender. The draft beer on tap selection was Ok for an airport bar. I ordered a Sierra Nevada Hazy IPA and it was refreshing and delicious as I expected it to be. My overall experience at Hubbard Inn was wonderful and terrific. I would highly recommend anyone flying through Chicago Midway airport to stop here for a drink or food and have Shelia take care of you because she is amazing and has a wonderful spirit. You can stand or sit around the bar, or go and seat yourself in the dining area, which is a small space, and most of the time it's full. I have decided to grab a seat by the bar. The bartender immediately came to me and asked if I wanted anything to drink. I asked her about the special drinks, displayed on the menu. She described it and I decided to try the Queen of Hearts (Ketel One Grapefruit & Rose Vodka, St-Germain Elderflower liqueur, sparkling wine, strawberry syrup, lemon juice, dehydrated rose petal) $23.99 My drink was pretty good, but instead of the rose petal, it was a cherry in it. Also, I found the drink unusually sweet, maybe the lemon juice was missing from it. Anyway, the cocktail was a nice treat before my flight! I also ordered Shrimp Tacos (Baja Shrimp, shredded cabbage, mango salsa, cilantro lime dressing) $22 The mango salsa made the tacos more delicious! I loved it! Everyone who works here is extremely rude. All of the signs say they open at 4 am. So we placed an online order at 4. Then got yelled at by workers saying they actually won't open until 5 because the sign was old (don't know how we were supposed to know that). My chili and fries dinner was about 17 bucks with a drink, it wasn't bad, but how badly can you mess up fries and chili? I got off my plane in the mood for ice cream. Sad to find there are no ice cream spots open at 9 p.m. on a Thursday in the B concourse (really, Midway???), I sought the next best thing: a cocktail. This is how I found my way to Hubbard Inn in Midway. I admit I was taken in by the fun decor of paintings and beautifully scripted cocktail menu on the wall in this bar in the middle of the walkway. Maybe I should have read the Yelp reviews before sitting down -- obviously -- but I still found some good things here. First, I ordered an Old Fashion. No, not an "Old Fashioned." (As someone from the city that has the "Old Fashioned" as its official cocktail, please get the name correct.) But this cocktail wasn't too bad. It's made with Elijah Craig, and the bartender did not skimp on the spirit. What did give me pause, though, was the price tag. $17!!!! I know we're in an airport, but geez! I've gotten Old Fashioneds -- Old Fashion-"eds" -- at high-end establishments that didn't cost this much. The cocktail that was served came in a plastic cup. And so I had something to soak up the bourbon, I got some thick cut truffle fries. I will say -- this was a large bowl of fries. If you're looking for something to share or even, dare I say, indulge in yourself, this definitely works. One other point of contention, though, is the fact that I ordered at 9:30 p.m. and was asked to leave at 9:45 p.m. so that the servers could mop, even though they did not officially close until 10 p.m. I was able to take my drink with me to my gate -- and for $17 I definitely wasn't leaving it behind half full. The server was polite about asking me to move along, though I wish she would have asked me to perhaps relocate to another portion of the bar that still had several seated guests. I appreciate that Midway is improving its food options. I fly Southwest, which means I'll be in this airport often. And with some improvements, Hubbard Inn could be a place to seek out while waiting for flights. read more
