Lots and lots of parking. Excellent location to run an outdoor festival with a few thousand folks. Outstanding. I am a big BBQ fan from my days in Florida and I make it a point to visit 2 or 3 BBQ Competitions every year. I heard about The Hudson Valley Ribfest from The BBQ Festival Directory which list all the competitions and festivals across the country. Great site for the BBQ enthusiast. http://www.bbq-festivals.com/bbqfestival_directory.html The HVR was held at The Ulster County Fair Grounds in New Platz, NY. This place was huge. Getting to from NYC was a breeze even with weekend traffic. Parking was free and with plenty of attendants to direct you. Admission $5 per person to the Ribfest. If anyone has ever been to any of these competitions, they are very exciting or very boring. At this location you had about 40 or so Teams competing in various forms of BBQ cooking: ribs, chicken, hogs, brisket. I walked through the BBQ Team Village and everyone was just chilling. The cooking was in progress and only drinking beer was the order of the day. Let me tell you, I had more ribs than I should have and they were all good. I don't want to single out and praise one stand over another, but there was some serious cue. I am a ribs fan and each stand represented their style with smoke, good crust and very, very tasty. The ribs were moist and they had that pull. Very nice. The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party at Madison Park should seriously review how the Hudson Valley Ribfest does business. Lines were as long, but moved. I mean there where 50 to 70 people ahead of me and the wait was less than 12 minutes. The food was hot. Not warm like at Big Apple, but hot which made for an enjoyable experience. Overall, I can't wait till next year. Rib samples at $7 for 3 bones and they were full bones. Beer selection was slim, Bud and Bud Lite, but you were not robbed. Only $5, not the end of the world. Hudson Valley Ribfest was very family friendly and with the weather sunny, one awesome day.

Well I couldn't have been more surprised, the amount of vendors here was triple the amount of the ones that were here for the wine events. Lots of food with all kinds of variety. Yes BBQ was king, but there was something for everyone. Parking in the field across the road is plentiful. I did not see any pets so keep your four legged friends at home. The staff running the event are courteous and friendly. Security does check bags at the entrance. I didn't bother to ask what they were looking for since most large events have the added security and I'm all for that. We got here about a half hour after they officially opened and it wasn't as crowded yet. There were some lines already forming for the food so we scouted a bit and decided on Butch's for the ribs. The ribs were tender, gooey and tangy. Utterly delicious, specially after adding extra sauce. Later on we had some deep fried shrooms and fried green tomatoes. Beer and wine slushee's helped wash it all down. I ended the afternoon with some Argentine chorizo with chimichurri sauce without the bread. Very good I must add. Overall, a good way to spend the day. They've already posted the date for next years event. Oh yeah bring hand wipes, you're gonna need them.

Looked very authentic - no translations, no real sides/extras, offerings like tongue and beef head. The waitress kept asking if we were ready, for example - When my friend was in the bathroom. Side note, bathroom experience: men's seemed normal (we are females and didn't explore too much) but the ladies room needed a key. Confusing, because no lock on the door? Nope - door #2 needed the key. We did eventually order, got the food quickly - quite a lot of food for the price. The quesadilla was huge, I didn't get to taste it and I'm not sure what type of cheese they used, but it came with a large bowl of guac and sour cream. My tacos came 4 for $10, with bowls of tomatillo salsa (nice hit of spice) and a thin roasted red salsa (honestly didn't taste or smell like much.) I have to say I appreciate that I got 4 lime wedges for my 4 tacos! Chicken didn't appear to be seasoned, in single Corn tortillas with plenty of cilantro and chopped onion. Overall, the food was good and I'm not against eating again, but from the reviews it's always empty. We went around 5pm, and saw the sign "Seat Yourself & Order At The Bar". Ok... So I asked a bartender for 2 menus, and found a booth. We decided quickly, and I made my way to the bar. Others were ahead of me, so I patiently waited to order: Tripple Smash Burger, Honey Buffalo Salad, Purple Rain (2), Diet Coke. I paid at the bar, served the drinks and waited for our food. The music was 80's MTV Themed {Pat Benatar, Bon Jovi, Bruuuce, Billy Idol}. Jenga, Horrible Couple and Cards Against Humanity were on the tables to pass the time. Or flip through the many records available for purchase until the food arrives. The salad was large in size and very good. Been a while since I had a burger, and this filled the void. Fries were not that hot, but we ate them anyway. Afterwards, we went downstairs and played some old school arcade games and then headed out. Upon leaving we saw someone was having a birthday party, which was nice to see. I'm sure in the summer this place gets packed. They also have a selection of draught beer (The proper way to spell it). Our guest raved about the food for weeks! (We're still hearing about it from friends and family). Everyone loved the chicken empanadas, the mojo chicken, the charcuterie cones, and the tuna tartar. We opted for a vegetarian pállela for our vegan/vegetarian friends and it was a hit. The deal was sealed when everyone lined up for seconds of dessert, Flan and Ice Cream. If you have a small group it's a fair value since you can probably get about three games in per hour coming out to about $5 per game which is the average cost at other alleys. If you have large groups then I'd split the groups up in multiple lanes to get a bit more for your buck but otherwise fairly competitive pricing in my opinion. My only complaint was the lack of air conditioning on a hot summer day which made for a little uncomfortable experience otherwise I would have stayed longer.

We knew it was family friendly but imagined that the main dining that was so "esteemed" based on the website, and costs over $150 per person (before drinks) was going to have a section for adults only (especially on Valentine's Day) but really it was like a loud cruise dining hall or theme park dining hall. We had a prix fixe menu but there were folks getting buffet behind us- there's a giant buffet in the middle of the room- just ZERO ambiance. For what we paid for this evening I am utterly shocked at the experience. We are so disappointed and feel robbed of $400 and our valentines dinner. I personally prefer a bit more heat, but the texture and seasoning were spot on. For my entrée, I chose the seared chicken breast--tender and well-seasoned, though the portion was more than I could finish. Dessert was a standout: the mascarpone torta cake was light, creamy, and absolutely incredible. I'd give it 10 stars if I could! The second night, I tried the cauliflower bisque, and wow--it was rich, creamy, and delicious. Easily my favorite dish of the night. My entrée was the pumpkin fregola, which was fine but didn't quite match the wow factor of the soup. We ended our trip with breakfast at the restaurant, which is served buffet-style. The spread was generous, with tons of options for all kinds of tastes. It was a perfect way to wrap up a wonderful weekend. Highly recommend dining here if you're staying at Mohonk--or even making a reservation if you're visiting the area. Beautiful setting, friendly staff, and memorable meals.
