Wow! I decided to eat at Huey's 3 weeks into my diet as a cheat meal and wow was I worth it! The cheese fries were good but they would be sooo much better if the cheese was layered in between the fries instead of just being put on top. The bluff city burger was very tasty and the huey burger is a classic. I guess the waitress was okay but seemed a little rough. I decided to go to the Huey's in downtown bc it's near all the touristy sightseeing things. There wasn't much of a wait even though it was a Friday afternoon so that's a plus. read more

This is hands down the best Hueys in the city. I walked in by myself for lunch today and was immediately greeted by the manager who, in a very polite way, told me where I could sit since I was alone. My server, Kathy G was unobtrusive but also very attentive. The food came out faster than any Hueys I've ever been to. And of course everything tasted great...I mean it's Hueys. I got to actually enjoy my meal and get back to work much sooner than I anticipated. With this kind of service, I will definitely be back here for lunch more often. read more

So, this was my 3rd time at Huey's, first at this location. The burgers the first two times (at the other location) were so good, I had to bring my wife here. We chose this location just because of its proximity to where we were going to be. As such, there were a few differences - first, layout. I like the layout of the Huey's in Germantown better (doesn't feel as cramped). And, the service. So, I want to distinguish that the actual server was really good; where the service was lacking was in the time it took to actually get our food. We didn't order anything super difficult, but it did take awhile to get it, on a not particularly busy night. As for the food - yes, their burgers really are THAT good. I don't know what it is about their burgers (maybe it's their Huey's seasoning), but something they're doing in the preparation of them just gives them that extra little something. And wow, does it make a difference. I got the Bluff City, and my wife got the Bluez 57, and we both really enjoyed it. I barely finished the burger, and barely put a dent in my side of onion straws (of which, I'm usually finishing both), so that gives you an idea of the size of these things. Here's something else they get right with their burgers - they pull the McDLT. For the uninitiated, the McDLT was something McDonald's served [which was shilled by Jason Alexander (George from Seinfeld)] in the early 90s that had a split container. That container kept, "the hot side hot, and the cool side cool." This is amazing, and exactly what Huey's does. They serve their burgers open-faced with the lettuce and other veggies on the side, keeping them cool! No lettuce wilt! Kudos to them for recognizing the scourge that is lettuce wilt. Anyways, this is one of those places that is on my "to return" list for whenever I'm in Memphis. Add it to your list - you won't regret stopping by! Oh, and I forgot - sit next to a wall, and you can draw on it. And, you can shoot toothpicks into the ceiling! Trust me, it makes sense. read more

Came in and was feeling like ordering a good huey's burger but we waited for a pretty good minute before the waiter came back. We ordered our drinks & they also took a pretty good while to get here, yet a family of 5 came in a little after us and got their drinks before us... and got FREE, yes FREE cheese fries before i even got to order anything. The general manager could've offered them to us but no. She cares for this restricts family reputation a little too much. I ended up not ordering anything but my drink because i was so furious with the general managers selfish actions. definitely will not come back because i confronted her in a joking manner asking where my free fries were at & she told me "On your mind" and walked away & laughed. From that kiel this forward i got my phone, downloaded yelp to specifically write this review. Was in Memphis for a few short days and really enjoyed the place. My intention was to eat at a different place for each meal and to sample different foods but mostly BBQ. Our first top was at Huey's Downtown due to a recommendation from a friend and the fact that is was close to where I parked, We were seated at a table near the bar and it was not a busy time, We started with beers and some really great onion rings while we browsed the menu. I finally decided on the Madison Avenue Burger which was topped with grilled onions and Swiss cheese and was an excellent choice, Our water was terrific and gave us a few pointers on what to do in town, Another round of beers and more talking with our waiter and others and even one of the regulars chimed in, Before we knew it we had a list of suggestions to go with the terrific burgers, Two more days around town and we decided that since Huey's was close that we would forgo out plans and go back, We sat at the bar the second time and were greeted by an equally friendly and attentive bartender who suggested a different beer I greatly enjoyed and immediately forgot the name of. This time I had the Old Tyme A1 Burger that was every bit as good as the first. It is rare that I find such a mix of terrific food and even better service. Hueys is doing in-person seating during covid which is a great experience. They really help you feel comfortable and feel like you are home. They interact with you very well and are very patient. We have a close connection with a waiter and manager. They call us their family and make us laugh a lot. The place is very clean. The only bad thing is the night when I don't go. This may be the worst service/food combo I've ever experienced. It starts with a structure devoid of any realness. It's all flair up in this bitch. You might as well be at Chili's or Applebee's, although I've actually had better food at both. The whole place is like watching the movie Waiting live. The server walked to the table with his hat pulled down over his eyes, and without uttering a hello asked what we'd like to drink. Did not address anyone specifically, just stared down at the table and blurted out, "what do you want to drink?" After we got over that awkwardness it was the same for ordering our food. One point of contention with the ordering process, and beware, the server asked, "any fries or onion rings with your sandwiches," implying that those options were included with the sandwich. Um, not. These were additional charges that were added to the bill. Full disclosure usually keeps people coming back, but then again, a place like Huey's relies on pot-bellied tourists who'll never come back... The food itself was as bland and fried as it comes. Fried shrimp po' boys, fries, onion rings, catfish, etc.... The burgers are their specialty and they are not horrible, but they are not even good. I'm sorry but this place was just TERRIBLE! The food actually made me regret having eaten there. I had the three sliders which is supposedly their award-winning claim. Now the meat was excellent, everything else? Ugh. The bread was the worst, it's like they spent all their money on the meat and let everything else go. The bread had a weird buttery flavor and completely overpowered the burger taste. The toppings were dry and lackluster. I subbed my onion straws with onion rings and they CHARGED me for it. I'm sorry but if the price of a meal INCLUDES a side and you don't give me that side in lieu of another then I shouldn't pay the full price for the original entree if you're going to charge me for the side order! Our waitress was pretty surly which was too bad because it seemed like all the other servers were really nice and friendly (our host was really friendly when he seated us). Burger was OK, a little overcooked for my taste, and the Onion Rings were just a bit too much. Also got a Ghost River and the waitress was annoyed when I asked what type of beer it was. Service was also a bit weird in that the waitress couldn't bother to come over to my table but rather yelled at me from ten feet away while she was on her way to the kitchen. We had eaten at several really good BBQ places in Memphis, we thought we would change it up and try this place near our hotel. Had the catfish basket. The filets were over cooked and tasteless. Huey's was the first place we stopped at to eat upon entering Memphis. Being a little burnt out, I wasn't feeling adventurous, so I opted for the standard Huey burger, not realizing until after the fact that there were some pretty great burger options. If I'm not mistaken, my girl played it even safer and had salad. I liked how goofy this place was. It was really busy, but everyone was having fun, and the ceiling is littered with toothpicks from where patrons are encouraged to shoot them through their straws. I tried doing one, and it kind of gave the ceiling a little kiss, and flew south. The burger was very tasty, and their onion rings are MASSIVE. I had one ring that could have doubled as saturn-rings for my burger. I love it! Needless to say, I was stuffed after that meal. Huey's is a good meal stop.
