This is our new favorite bar in Vermilion. The best feature is a variety of refrigerators where are you can walk back and choose from a huge selection of beers. They have all the well known national beers that you would expect, but also a great selection from local breweries. They also have a nice selection of liquor, wine and whiskey. Very friendly staff. We have been there twice and both times the owner made a point to speak to us. Good food. Pretty basic bar food menu, but definitely fresh. We will come here not just for a drink, but also for a good meal. I definitely recommend checking out Huggy's Social House. A great place to hang out, drink, eat, or watch a game. A very underrated place to grab a beer! This casual bar is a real gem in Vermilion. Located on the way into Downtown Vermilion, Huggy's is a local watering hole just oozing with charm and chill vibes. Even in the middle of summer, its decorated with Christmas items amongst its nautical feel. It immediately reminded me of that scene from Clueless where they're at the California party decorated for Christmas while drinking beer. While they serve food, we didn't try any, but rather just visited the extensive beer selection in the back-of-house. We designed our own six-pack to-go and were very impressed by the expansive selection of beers available in the refrigerators. They really pride themselves on offering the best of local, regional and national breweries, and it shows! We loved our selection of new breweries and all the off-the-beaten path brews we put in our six-pack. Helpful staff, reasonable prices, and a cool atmosphere. Huggy's is 100% worth a stop if you're in the area. They also have a small patio outside to sit on the river. It overlooks a local boat club, so if you're into the boating view, it's a good place to hang! Look forward to trying their food at a later time after the pandemic. read more

Man, I love this place. I'm not in Vermilion very often, but I have to come here when I am. The staff is so friendly and welcoming that it feels like my home away from home. The beer selection is outrageously good, both on tap and in cans and bottles. Food is casual and tasty. I recommend the giant pretzel to soak up the aforementioned beer. read more

This was the first stop on our roadtrip to the west from New Jersey. We stayed at an ABNB in Vermillion and we're looking for a local place that had good reviews. I looked at 3 places and all of our group agreed on Huggy's (I think mostly because of the name initially). The place was packed and we had 7 people in our party. A man greeted us inside by the bar because we looked lost. Little did we know he was the owner Tom Hug. He did his best to seat us all, sadly we had to split our tables and my niece, her husband and twin boys had to sit separately. We all ordered at the same time, but our food was very late. We were told several times that the food was coming and that they were working on it. Again, we were surprised to learn that Tom was actually preparing orders, waiting tables and basically doing it all. Later on he spotted my wife outside and struck up a conversation and she told him that it was my 50th birthday that day. Shortly after Tom greeted us at our table and we had the most amazing conversation. What a truly wonderful human being and generous to boot. He treated us all to shots and a bottle of Dr. McGillicuddy's Butterscotch! When we did get the food it was excellent. We got the giant pretzel and it was delicious. Party of 4: I'm a wing man. I've travelled near and far to try the best wings around Cleveland. I stopped in Buffalo for the original chicken wing maker. I will have a heart attack at a young age because I love love love wings. This place delivers. The baked wings are big and meaty. Due to the grilled nature they lack the crunch of a fryer but deliver with flavor. Thai chili sauce was solid. Wing was flavorful. The caprese burger hit home too. Two nice healthy slices of mozzarella served with tomatoes on top of a balsamic dipped patty. What more can you ask for? Super happy with this purchase. Once you've had the two above feel free to branch out to other items. We gave the flatbread and the flank steak a try. The didn't compare to the wings and burger but they were acceptable. Also recommend trying their Bloody Mary's. It may have been 930 at night but it still went down real steady. Judgers be damned drink the best drink no matter what time of day. read more

FUN PLACE! Looking for lunch or early dinner, we stopped here. This is a small bar with a casual menu of appetizers, burgers, wraps, salads, and a couple entrees. The decor consists of beer signs and just about any other kind of sign you could think of. The bar sits up against the massive harbor dock area and so the clientele seemed to be boaters and everybody seemed to know everyone else. We were "outsiders" so everyone was friendly and wanted to know where we were from. There is a huge selection of interesting craft beers and I suppose they had the "Budmilloors" too. Good wine list. I had a cheeseburger and it was 1/2 lb. done medium to perfection with a good toasted bun and fresh lettuce, tomato& onions. My wife had a Greek wrap with grilled chicken, spinach, cucumbers, tomato, FRESH feta cheese and a sauce. Both plates came with chips. If the food had only been average I still would have given this delightful spot 5 stars for the friendliness of the patrons, staff and the owner/cook, Tom, who came out twice to talk with us. This place is a super-friendly place. Next time we visit Vermilion, Huggy's is going to be a primary objective. read more

They have somewhat limited seating but it would be worth the wait. We went in during the day yesterday and had no problem finding a seat. We had the blue cheese bacon burger and it was awesome. Got it without onion and that allowed all of the flavor to ooze out. The bacon tasted like it was Honey cured. We also got a side salad with peppercorn dressing that was to die for. They have a good draft beer selection as well as hundreds of cans and bottles of beer. There is a huge selection of other alcohol and wine. My wife and I are not "Bar" people. Would rather have a few drinks at home in a private. However, one day after Mass we decided to stop at Huggy's. We were blown away at the hospitality of the staff and their service. Tom the owner instantly became to us not just an owner to customer relationship but a friend. He never treated us like a customer the first time he saw us. He interacted with us as if he knew us for years, And because of that style, he WILL now know us for years to come. The Saturday service is amazing as that is when we go to Huggy's. Visited my sister in hospital on a Friday and we were hungry. Decided on Huggy's. Different experience. Tom and our usual staff, who are also now our friends weren't there. Food and service was below what we have experienced before. It was barren in there. You would think it would be easier to please on a night with nobody in the establishment... but they failed on that night. Sunday Bloody Mary Bar....... WOW! It was a cook who I don't know, Tom, and Judy. The place was jammed!!!!! We went after 1pm so I couldn't imagine what they went through when it started at 11am (Bloody Mary Bar 11am-4pm on Sundays), The BM Bar itself was crazy amazing. I frequent Green Bay and they take pride on their BM Bars at big establishments. Huggy's blew any BM Bar out of the water I've ever been to. Not to mention the lack of staff on this day, the above mentioned people, our new friends busted their butts off making everyone have a great day. And finally the coffee. First tie for coffee before grocery shopping. I don't want to know the calories I had in my banana split coffee because if I know I might not order it again. And I'm a black coffee no cream no sugar guy, My large coffee was gone in 10 minutes, liquid desert. Getting that coffee Sunday morning led us back after shopping as we saw them setting up the Bloody Mary bar. Knew we had to try it. Tom, Judy, and the cook (oh yes, amazing food here!!!!!) have us hooked. We will keep coming back on the right nights spending more money going out than we prefer. But when you find a place like this with great atmosphere, drinks, food, and friendship.....you can't put a price on that. Thank you. read more
