Tiki Bar in the middle of Tex Mex restaurants saved us from Margaritaville (literally). Sweet little spot, dark and relaxing. Ask for the first booth to your right when you enter, it was like we had the place to ourselves in a good way. I always start with a Zombie at tiki bars cause if they can't make a delicious Zombie its not a tiki bar. See photos. Celebrated my best guy friends birthday here after a delicious dinner! We all enjoyed the music just as much as we did of the ambiance. We ordered Zombie's and Halekulani's which tasted very good. This tiki spot is one of my top favorites. The bartenders are all friendly and super attentive. I recommend making a reservation as you will get first priority right up front at the bar. Really fun ambiance. We went on a Saturday night and expected that it would be crowded. We did have to wait for a table, but only for about 10 minutes, then we got a text that something opened up for us. It was a very hot night out and to my dismay, inside it was just as stuffy and a little too warm for the small space and amount of people in there. Drinks are delicious but pricey. We had two each, for a total of 4 which came out to a little over 50 bucks. They were quick and well presented. I could've forgiven the price seeing as it was date night and we tend to splurge on our once a month night out. What I really didn't like was that about 10 minutes after being seated, the hostess came to our table, set down a card that said "reserved" and said "just so you know, I'll need this table at 9:30 because I have a reservation." Okay then... start the countdown. It was still 40 minutes away but it definitely put a damper on our time because who knows how long we would have stayed there. Alas, hot crowded room, expensive drinks and rude hostess made for an unwelcoming environment. I'd been wanting to come here for a long time now, I'm glad I did but probably would not return. Decided to bring my wife out here for our date night this past weekend. We had heard mostly amazing things! If you were into rum, and rum drinks, this is definitely your place. They have a Normas assortment of rooms far more than I have ever seen or heard of however, they don't have a rum list of any kind but it's more like whatever you see is what you get. They have a few traditional spirits like, your very common whiskey and tequila but aside from that definitely a rum drink place. That being said, their house drinks are really amazing and have a pretty decent potency. They are a little bit expensive but the experience is really nice. As probably mentioned in other reviews; the interior is very small can probably occupy 25 people comfortably. There is outdoor seating available but we're talking about on July 30 so after a full day of it being nearly 100°, we wanted to sit inside. I will advise you on the inside does not really feel cooler than the outside and there is no breeze but they were sure to have numerous fans going which did help but admittedly we did sweat our asses off. The bartenders are extremely nice very efficient and very attentive so I definitely appreciated that. Even the guy who washes the glasses and refills the ice parentheses (Mike) was really sweet to us and we saw him make a couple drinks to assist! The place still have to close about an hour early due to a water leak that they had but they were very good about communicating this and apologizing. My wife and I said we will definitely be back in the fall when the interior has called off, so we can really enjoy your drinks even more. Try the Slamantonios! read more

If a manager could reach out to me I'd be glad to change/remove my review. I'm not sure of his real name but our receipt said "Jose", the guy with the gauge earrings who thinks hes cool. When we first got there, 3 bartenders were standing around and nobody said how can I help you. Had to ask them for service, then they said scan QR code. We then ordered 2 drinks neither of which came in the 100's of tiki mugs behind the bar, came in regular glassware. However when another customer ordered the same drink it came in a tiki mug. When I visit a tiki bar and order a $14 drink it better come in the tiki mug no? Also I then asked him where can we go or can you explain the layout, etc? He replied "You can go wherever you like dude" while the other bartenders laughed and mocked me. Then I felt like he was going to explain the place, then proceeded not too. Then I asked him his name and he told me Spencer, I said OK thanks. We found our way outside on the patio where an employee was attempting to lure in a possum to feed it next to where I was sitting, not shoo it away which I thought she was doing at first. After our first round of drinks which were improperly poured by a large amount and my guest wanting to try something better we went back inside to Spencer. I said Spencer can we try some drinks in a tiki mug, he loudly stated "My name is not Spencer bro" then said "I'd love that white privilege though if not haha" While other guests laughed and mocked me. I've never felt embarrassed by a bartender before. Then told me his name was Victor. I then said OK close me out, it took him 10 minutes to do nothing then I said Victor can you close me out dude? He said my name is Eric my man then proceeded to spend another 5 minutes closing me out. Then to get the receipt to say Jose. At the very least in a tourist destination properly train your staff to pour the drinks correctly. Also, Jose/Spencer/Victor/Eric need to be suspended or fired for his behavior towards a first time customer. As a SA native I've had this bar bookmarked for a year to check out, this was my first experience. I would come back because this bartender was the root cause of my bad experience and I do not blame the bar on a bad bartender, however, he needs to be spoken to and handled. Let me paint the picture for you, you're minding your own business on the River walk and boom! You see a row of skulls. Now, maybe a normal person would walk away by my husband and I were intrigued. Yes we got the memo, we knew it was a tiki bar and by Lucifer's elbow, it was a tiki bar! Once you walk in you are smack dead on some tiki island. It's dark and moody. This is a hard review to write. I went back several times hoping that each visit would prove to be better and I'm sorry to say that it just wasn't. What I will start with are the pros. The decor inside Hugman's Oasis is absolutely legit and gorgeous. If this was a design, decor, and music review they would get 5 out of 5. Stunning place visually. I'm a huge a tiki fan, I travel around the country to get my tiki fix. One of the things I love about tiki is that each place is different - there is NO one way that is the right "tiki" each place has its own ambiance, decor, and cocktail styles. There are several tiki cocktail styles, eras, recipes, riffs, inspirations, "classics", and takes on classics - you name it I love them all and I love their uniqueness. With that being said my review isn't based on what I think tiki should be but based on what I experienced at their establishment in terms of cocktails (I'll discuss service later on). My review is solely based on their cocktails. If you are looking for good tiki cocktails then this ain't it. I was over the moon when I first learned that San Antonio would finally get a bar focused on tiki drinks - it's about time! I can't tell you how excited I was to have a tiki bar in my hometown...... I made our group go several times because I kept hoping that the drinks would get better but it never changed. What is the issue? - Most of the drinks are just straight up unbalanced - Most of the drinks just don't taste good - Most of the drinks don't taste like their namesake (whether featured as a classic or a riff) - drinks are inconsistent (the zombie I had each time tasted different) I don't know if the issue lies with the recipes they are using, or the lack of quality check of bartenders using the right recipe proportions, or if it's the bartenders, or the ingredients, etc. I have no clue why the drinks are so inconsistent and not particularly good. What I do know is that there is still hope - at least I have hope. I want my hometown city to have one of the best tiki bars in the country and I hope they find their way there... at some point. I don't know if they need to revamp their menu, the recipes, the bartenders, etc. Whatever the issue is I hope they find their way through it. My rating does not include the service which would have received a 1/5. If you sit inside the bar you get better service. If you sit outside you will get the dreaded touristy Riverwalk feel plus the service was pretty terrible outside from beginning to end. At check in one of the servers or managers (I couldn't tell what their role was) knew the people behind us so he sat them before us and the front desk lady was very kind and told the server/manager that our group was there first so he found us a spot as well. His friends were near our table and I watched as they received service, ordered drinks, and received their drinks before anyone even came to wait on us. The people in my group felt the outside experiences can be best described as the rainforest cafe due to the touristy feel, service, and quality of cocktails. My experiences inside the bar where much better but it didn't change the quality of the cocktails. Decor (Inside Bar): 5/5 Cocktails: 1/5 Service: 1/5 In case you are curious as to what I tried (and yes, I've tried nearly everything on the menu because I didn't want to judge them on a just a handful of cocktails. The food and drinks were both pretty good. The hostess acted like she didn't even want to be there. There was no hello or anything from her. The initial waiter we had who brought us water didn't even introduce himself or say hi. The person who did bring the drinks was a very kind gentleman. I would not return because some of the staff act like they do not want to be there. I am never one to leave bad reviews, but my husband and I will not be returning. This was a beautiful place to sit with friends and have a nice drink on the river walk. The drink selection was really good. There are plenty of places to sit both indoors and out. I would suggest making a reservation to guarantee a table. My only complaint is there were small particles floating in the bottom of my water glass. It wasn't a big deal seeing that in the Army, I have ingested worse and I didn't bother the sweet waitress. The service was friendly and the decor rocked. read more
