We must've come on a bad night or something because everything about this place was bad! We ( a group of 5 women) showed up after 10 on a tuesday ( yes, I know Tuesday, but downtown is usually busy and fun!) welll first off once you walk in, it has a very distinct smell, and the farther you walk towards the back is the restrooms and you find that's where the bad smell is coming from! It was musty old smell, pretty gross. We wanted to sit outside where 90% of the people were but there was a wait time so we just sat inside, they sat us in a corner right by the door, and it felt so dark! The whole place was so dark we had the waiter bring us a little light to be able to read the menu! We were only there because we were hungry but it turned out the kitchen closed at 10, that and their menu selection was very limited! We decided to stay and have a drink since they made them look so fun on their instagram but the waiter had no idea what we were talking about! We asked him if he could bring out the drink that comes in a little pig and he said they didn't have that anymore but yet it is all over their social media! He looked like he was half asleep and did not want to be there! We just each had a simple beer and left. The vibes were lame, the waiter was lame, and we left disappointed. My boyfriend and I always try to find the tiki bars any time we go on a trip so we sought out this place! I really enjoyed the atmosphere inside but I loved that they had seating outside next to the river walk (which is basically necessary if you're right along the river walk, right?! lol). The drink menu was pretty good, with a lot of the standard tiki drinks plus a few interesting spins of the classics. I got a "pinagroni" because I love negronis and was curious about the pineapple washed campari. It was good but we only stayed for one drink! This is a nice little spot. read more

We we're passing through San Antonio for a one night stay and we decided to go out along the river walk and we came across this Tiki Bar. They have a nice outside elevated seating area. A bit to warm for that , so we ventured inside to the bar. We met a wonderful bartender. His name is Bernie. He was just perfect, very attentive, great personality, and he without a doubt is a master at maki g amazing unusual drinks!! Thank you Bernie for you being you! My wife had a Mojito and I had a Spiked Mango-O-Rang, delicious, excellent presentation and flaming fire to lick it off. The rest of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. My tips when visiting: -if it's a super busy night, call early and see if you can get on the list. I would even do it as you were walking to the establishment (make sure you give your name) -Sit inside at the bar. It's cooler. You can watch your drinks being made. Better lighting at night. Much better experience. -If you are there on a busy night, plan to wait outside. -If you sit outside, sit far away from the tiki torches it makes things 20 times hotter especially on a warm San Antonio night. - Order the Zombie cocktail 1000/10 The drinks: Jungle Bird: When I received the jungle bird drink, I was outside and it was very watery. It could definitely have something to do with the temperature outside or just poor fast drink making. I wouldn't order this again. 2/10 Zombie: I received this drink when I was inside and sitting at the bar. It was prepared in front of me and I enjoyed watching the process of it being made. The Bartender was very knowledgeable and this was a much better drink than the jungle bird. I would come back to this place just for this drink! 1000/10 The atmosphere: atmosphere is fun and well decorated. Perfect for Instagram and bringing friends. Although everything is very island and Hawaiian themed it's pretty upscale as far as bars ago. I could particularly see this place being too dark for an older generation as I saw a few older couples using their phones as flashlights to read the menu. Bar is much better lit. Music was instrumental and not too overpowering. Issues: Upon arrival on a busy Friday night, the seating hostess asked if we were on the list. I told him no and that I would like seating for two inside even if we had to wait. He assured us that we were at the "top of the list" but didn't even bother to get my name. He quickly directed us to an outdoor seat behind him, right next to the tiki torches. It was already a pretty hot night so the tiki torches did not help. Another couple sat next to us after we had got there (they were not on the list and didn't have a previous reservation) and was brought inside before us. We waited for an extra 10 minutes because of this. We waited for about 35- 40 minutes to get inside. As we were waiting, we ordered a drink and The waitress started a tab and added us to the list. This was frustrating because we had already asked to be put on the list. Finally once the indoor seats were ready, our waitress closed the tab. I'm not sure why she closed it and made us start a new tab inside. I found this kind of odd. read more

The ambiance is nicely Tiki/South Pacific. The music funk, while enjoyable, not at all tiki. Water, iced and cold, served in plastic cups. Orders of Saturn and Cobra's Fang Cobra's Fang was missing flavor. Normally there's a nice punch of rum with orange and lime citrus. This one, however tasted like water with a splash of Falernum. Not at all what a Cobra's Fang should be. Saturn had to be remade to to lack of flavors. Normally, a Saturn has a delightful tart moment in the palate, much like a sweet tart. The remade version, again was flavored of water and a splash of passion fruit juice. The flavor profiles suggest the juices being used are not fresh squeezed and the passion fruit is a juice or syrup. Suggestions, squeeze the fruits and use passion purée, yes the cost is a bit more, but the drinks would be much better and in fact enjoyably drinkable. Additionally, visit some established tiki bars (Undertow in Phoenix, SOS in Atlanta, Hula Hula in Seattle, Frankie's in Vegas) and learn what the flavor profiles should be. read more

This place is FUN. It is located directly below the recently opened House of Ma restaurant. It's on the river level of the recently renovated Witte Building. The drinks are expertly crafted and the service was great! They currently do not have food available yet but I am really looking forward to coming back and trying a lot of other drinks and them launching their food program. A great new addition to the downtown riverwalk bar scene. I highly recommend their Mai Tai which they light up with a flame and their Zombie which is made with absinthe. Go check it out! read more

Thursday night is a good time to visit. The bar has only been open a few months now and Thursday's are not as crazy as Fridays. Its a little tricky to find, but just look for the tiki torches outside and you should have no problem. It overlooks the riverwalk, so the view is great (but air conditioning inside is MUCH nicer) They make all their own mixers - Orgeat, falernum, Don's Mix, etc. The bartenders love to show off with the flaming and the sparking cinnamon (everyone loves a pyro!). The bar menu is limited right now as they spin things up, but the chicken satays are fantastic (gotta love wood-fired grills). The only negative was the music - typical contemporary beach-themed stuff. I was hoping for mid-century Tiki music, but I totally understand. Worth the effort! read more

Definitely a must try when you're in San Antonio! We were staying on the river walk so it was just a short walk from our hotel. The decor & ambiance is super cool and definitely hits the mark for a Tiki Bar. We split a double level 4 pain killer in a bowl and it was awesome! Super strong and had great flavor. A friend and I checked out the new downtown River Walk Tiki Bar. We went on a Saturday the day after their opening day). We got there 2 1/2 hours before closing and sat outside along the river. Everyone who was working was friendly. The bar does close at midnight on Saturday, and the service was steady. They were not serving food yet, and the inside was decorated beautifully. If you want to sit on the inside, I'd recommend coming earlier because there was a wait. My friend and I both had their daiquiri - $9 (on the stronger side but not an overwhelming taste of alcohol), she had a wave of mutilation - $15, and I had a painkiller - $13 (both of these drinks were fruity and you couldn't really taste the alcohol). read more

After dinner and a quick stop at the hotel, my colleagues wanted to get a drink so I ended up finding this place on Yelp. The place is on the small side and we were asked to sit outside or inside. Since it was a bit cold we opted to drink inside. The place was packed at the bar with a lot of locals it seemed but we were able to get a table. Our server was on the low energy side but effective. My friends drinks were a bit watered down so that was a bummer. My friend complained of the same thing so definitely a star off for that. Super cute tiki bar with lots of skull decor, shrunken heads, colorful lights, led fountain, etc. it's a really great vibe and I've honestly never seems such a well decorated tiki bar! The drinks are poured very generously and there's a god non-rum selection with gin alternatives for us tourists who can't handle the heat+sugar.
