I came here to Hugo on Valentine's Day, and I had an amazing experience from the minute that I came in the door. The hostess greeted me with rose. The lounge is beautifully lit. We were seated and they brought us delicious bread with a wonderful sweet butter. they also give you free chocolate covered strawberries at the end of the dinner. From beginning to end, the service was amazing. They were a little busy but they tried their best to be as fast as they could, which I appreciated. Overall, my date night was absolutely wonderful. Omg! How have I never been here?! I absolutely loved this place! It kind of reminded me of the other really famous steak place in town. If you know you know. They have a tableside salad bar that they bring to you. It was so good! Bread was amazing. Steak was amazing. If Hugo's continues to knock it out of the park like they did for us, this place should be on everyone's list if you're looking for great food and an old school dining experience. The staff that assisted us had 40, 41 and 27 years at Hugo's and they were great! We skipped appetizers and had duck, salmon, chicken and cauliflower dishes for entrees. We told the Sommelier we were having salmon and duck and wanted a red and he picked a reasonably priced Pinot noir that paired well with salmon and mushroom risotto. Prices are higher than normal but that is due to the extras you get...great bread service, table side salad service, raspberry sorbet, sides with every entree and dessert items included. This is an amazing old money Vegas spot. They give classy long stem roses to all women that come in and have vases on the tables for the roses. They have an incredible array of steak, lobster and wine. I tried everyone's steaks and they were all just perfect. I got the tart cherry chicken dish and it was such an interesting and tasty flavor, I want to learn how to make it at home! They bring out a salad bar so each person can make their own salad. I had such a fantastic anniversary dinner with my husband at Hugo's Cellar! He had surprised me with a reservation at Hugo's Cellar on a Thursday evening at 5:00 P.M. This was my first time at Hugo's Cellar, and it certainly will not be my last time! Hugo's Cellar is located in the Four Queens Hotel & Casino. It's situated in the middle of the casino, right next to Magnolia's. We were the first customers to arrive at around 4:45, but by the time it was 5:00 P.M., there was a line right behind us! When the team member dropped the rope, we went up to the register for the check-in process. The team member at Hugo's Cellar validated our parking ticket and provided me with a rose! When you walk down, you'll notice how beautiful and stunning the restaurant is! There are plenty of booth and regular tables available. We requested a booth seat for our dinner! At the entrance is an open bar as well! When we sat down at our booth, the server took the rose and placed it in a vase. Before we left the restaurant, a team member wrapped the rose in foil for traveling! It was so sweet! After sitting down, water was provided, as well as the menu. While looking over the menu, complimentary bread and butter were provided! The butter was cute! It was shaped as a rose! The bread provided was a bacon flavored roll, pretzel roll, and a cheddar crispy flatbread. I enjoyed the bacon flavored roll the best! My husband selected the Prime rib, and I opted for the Filet Mignon. Tableside salad was provided! It was cool to watch my husband build his own salad. The team member went through each individual option to customize the salad. Unfortunately, Hugo's cellar had only 3 dressing options - Ranch, Caesar, and an Orange Glaze. I didn't have a tableside salad, but it was fun to watch my husband build his own and eat it! A complimentary Raspberry Sorbet was provided to cleanse the palate. We didn't wait too long for the steaks after the salad was provided, approximately 20 minutes. My Filet Mignon had a bordelaise sauce on the bottom with a side of mashed potatoes. My husband had a fully loaded mashed potato (sour cream, bacon) with his prime rib. The filet mignon was cooked with a technique, butterflying it to make sure it was cooked medium-well done. The steak was tender and juicy! It was scrumptious! The fresh green beans were phenomenal! The mashed potatoes were yummy! It wasn't too salty and had just enough butter added to it! We had some leftovers. Hugo's cellar wrapped up the meal in a container and provided a bag! It was such an amazing experience! We were surprised with a complimentary chocolate lava cake with a candle from the team at Hugo's cellar! There was also a letter with all of the team member's signed signatures! It was such a kind gesture! The chocolate lake cake had a small scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle to balance the chocolate flavors! It was sooo good! I was still hungry afterward and also asked for a slice of their snickers cheesecake! On top of the cheesecake was the candy snickers crumbled and a base of chocolate syrup scattered on the plate. The cheesecake wasn't creamy but more of a crumbling texture. It was still yummy, though! We had such an outstanding evening! The service was amazing! The food was delicious! We had fond but vague memories of our first visit to Hugos about 30 years ago, so decided to try it on our most recent trip. The service and ambiance were as expected from an established steak house. The food, sadly, was less than spectacular. The highlights were the French onion soup and raspberry sorbet palate cleanser. The soup was tasty and served in a huge meal-sized portion, but topped with mozzarella instead of gruyere. The breads and cheese lavosh were generously served with whipped and honey butters. Included with each entree is a salad prepared table-side, vegetables, and chocolate-covered fruits. The lettuce was very crisp and fresh, and you could pick from an overwhelming amount of choices. The beef wellington was cooked nicely, medium rare the puff pastry crowned and crispy. One of them, however, had a noticeable hole on the side. The duxelle was good, but the prosciutto layer was missing. The best part of the duck with maple bourbon sauce was the sauce, lightly sweet with sauteed onions. We were told that the duck could not be cooked medium rare because the fat had to be rendered. Knowing that, I should have avoided ordering it. The duck was juicy but cooked medium well, so of course was not as tender as a medium rare preparation. The most disappointing dish was the rib eye steak. Although it was cooked rare as ordered, the meat itself was very chewy and tough. The chocolate-covered strawberries, apricots, and figs were a good way to end the meal. Our overall impression was that the restaurant had cut corners, probably inevitable in these times, but the entrees were also quite expensive so the food quality was not worth the high cost. Located inside the Four Queens in Downtown, each lady is greeted with a long stemmed red rose after walking down a short staircase to reach the hostess station. Service was great! My wife joked that she thought she had already drank from her water glass but it was still full. Water guy was on it and kept drinks topped. Classic steakhouse vibe with brick walls but well lit. I could see my food! We tried the ribeye and French onion soup. The entree comes with bread service, table side salad service, sorbet in between each course, and a dessert dish with chocolate covered strawberries which is fun. Such a wonderful experience! If you are in the downtown area, I recommend checking out this hidden gem. Reservations are preferable, but I'd say book it ahead of time. Upon entering the downstairs corridor, the loud energy from Fremont dissipates, creating an intimate setting that is less noisy. A host greets you checks you in, and another host directs you to your table. They were both friendly and greeted with a smile. The experience started right when we sat down, and we got situated with water and adult beverages.. And mocktails! Our server, Caesar, and his assistant (I'm sorry I forgot his name) were both great. They were both accommodating and had a great personality. They start with a bread dish and come by with a salad presentation at your table, and you can choose which salad you'd like. There are three options: I had the vinegarette with roasted pine nuts, and two others had the Caesar salad. They give you time between the bread, salad, and entrees to bask in the delicious flavors! After enjoying the appetizers, they give you a small sherbet ice cream to cleanse your pallets. It was perfect! The main entrees were terrific! Take a look. Located in the Four Queens casino in Downtown. We had reservations for Saturday at 6pm. We were a bit early and were seated promptly. Women are given roses which I think is a nice touch. I ordered the Beef Wellington with a side of rice. It was tender, flavorful and cooked as ordered. This is not usually on the menu at other steakhouses so I decided to try it. Good portion (10 oz), something different, but nothing extra ordinary about it. We were initially planning to order an appetizer and then share the Beef Wellington. However, they have a Split Plate charge of $35 - which includes all the accompaniments of a full entree, but still is ridiculous. My boyfriend decided to order the Jumbo Stuffed shells instead. Nothing extraordinary about it but was an adequate portion. We did not get any dessert since the entree comes with an Assortment of Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, Apricots and Baby Figs Finely dining - dining area is a little dim. Not loud/noisy which always makes dinner more enjoyable. Female server checked on us regularly. A better demeanor (be nice and friendly) would have been appreciated. Even if the entree comes with a salad (cannot substitute for soup), and also chocolate-dipped assortments, it is still a bit pricey. It's been a long time since I've had a meal like I had at Hugo's! What a traditional, old fashioned fancy dinner. We were able to get in without a reservation, and enjoyed the ambiance. My boyfriend and I joked to each other that this feels like a place that the old timey gangsters may have made deals, with the cave-like feel in the stone walls and the low lights. Women got roses as they entered. Everything felt quite fancy and high class. The menu is expensive, but it does come with multiple courses: fresh bread, a table-side made salad with all the fixins, a palate cleanser, and dessert are all included with entrees, as well as potato and veg. Modern "fancy" restaurants nickel and dime you for every portion, so it was nice to have some small courses included. The service was wonderful. Little touches really made the magic throughout--for example, my martini came in a chilled carafe instead of an ice-filled cocktail shaker, meaning it wouldn't water down as I refilled my cup, and to make it even better it was the size of TWO martinis! The food is a bit basic for the price, but most courses arrive with such flourish that you forget that you could probably get the NY Strip next door for half the price. But will your lobster bisque be assembled right in front of you? I think not! Speaking of, the bisque was lovely. A perfect entry to the meal. The salad of course was excellent, and the palate cleanser sorbet was tasty. Our meals, what we could eat of them by that point (having filled up on the earlier courses!) were decent and we enjoyed them. I got the pasta option (being pescatarian) and my boyfriend got the NY strip. Again, the quality doesn't QUITE seem to match the price, but for all the other accompaniments it's not as hard of a hit to the wallet for the portions you receive. I so wanted to love this place. It was highly recommended by a friend, so we gave it a try for our anniversary. We arrived on time, walked up to the host stand, and there was a very nice lady there. There was also a gentleman on the phone. The lady took our name, checked the reservations, then apologized that she had to wait for the gentleman to tell her where to seat us. We waited several minutes while he spoke at length to the party on the phone. It was pretty annoying, why not empower your team to do their job or place someone on hold long enough to tell her where to seat us? We ended up being seated at a small two top against the wall that was somewhat awkward with placement, and watched as other parties of two were seated at four tops that gave them more room/comfort. Oh well. Once we were seated we were ready for things to get better. We were off to a good start with our two servers, ordered a martini and it came with a small carafe on ice as a backup which was nice. The sommelier had great suggestions for wine and we ordered a nice bottle. The salad cart was lovely, it had a lot of choices to customize your salad. Service seemed to wane once we got our salads. I refilled my own wine as nobody was around to do it for me. Our entrees came, hubby got the seafood trio and I got the filet. Both dishes were well prepared and tasty. As mentioned, the service seemed to fall off, and we sat for some time after finishing waiting for someone to come by. Once our plates were cleared we did get the chocolate dipped fruit and they brought a complimentary creme brûlée for our anniversary. It was nice. I was pretty underwhelmed compared to the expectation. This used to be one of my favorite places to dine. That vintage Vegas mafia fine dining experience was unparalleled! I've been here a few times previously and this time hoped to share one final special night in Vegas with my boyfriend. Decided last minute so no reservation but the super busy maitre'd was so nice and accommodating and found us a table later in the evening. Sad I don't know his name but I believe he's the gentleman that is always in the front. Anyhow, everything else was exceptional and fun from the free rose to the table side salad and steak, etc. although now I can't really remember the steak. The issue I had was with our server. We had two, one lady and one gentleman. The gentleman seemed to be our main server. The lady was nice enough and made our salads. The gentleman on the other hand was very uninterested in serving us. His attitude was lack luster. When it came time to order, I asked him for one recommendation on the side and he sort of shrugged said I would get the potato, so I did. Then as an addition to the steak, I wanted a seafood topper and asked him to recommend between the two, his response "I'm not going to recommend the whole menu to you" with a chuckle. I was so angry at the moment but said nothing. My boyfriend, was happily oblivious to the statement probably because his chuckle covered his real intentions. From then on my night was ruined since I still had to see him the whole time, but I decided not to share the feelings with my boyfriend since it was his first time there and I was excited for him to try the food. He is also a stickler about not tipping for bad service so he would've wanted me to withhold. Throughout the meal, I was so upset I could not make eye contact with him or even wanted to answer his questions, I just let my boyfriend do the talking. At one point I overheard him say to the female server "is it hard to hear me or something, she doesn't respond to me at all", something to that effect. That, told me he knows that I did not appreciate his tone when ordering. Alas, at the end I still tipped 20% since there were multiple service staff that were great and they all deserve their due, just one bad egg. I hope he isn't hurting other people's paychecks. This review has been waiting for awhile. I honestly was enamored with this place from the sight. To begin the ambiance is calming. The dim lighting inside sets a calming mood, which I like. The staff was very friendly, and the salad was delicious, by far one of the best salads I've ever enjoyed. Now the reason why I am giving a 3 star review is simple. I ordered the Alaskan King Crabs & to my surprise they come cut in half for you, which is good for quick access to enjoy your meal. However I did not enjoy my king crab legs at all. They came out very, very dry. The whole enjoyment of ordering this for me is cracking them open to reveal the nice moist, tender meat inside of which this ultimately lacked. My husband ordered a steak medium-well, but his came out rather bloody & we had to ask our server to take it back to cook it longer. These are the reasons for a 3 star review. As many know this restaurant is on the upscale side & the pricing truly reflects that & for a high price I was expecting better king crab legs & unfortunately this place did not deliver. Overall though the ambiance was nice, and I love the fact that they give every woman a rose. That in of itself I found endearing. Would I come back? Maybe. read more
