Daybreak Island Grill is a kid friendly restaurant located in Ocean Beach serving up delicious island style dishes from Loco Moco to traditional Hawaiian mac salad to kalua eggs Benedict . They also cater to guests bringing their dogs and even offer a freshly made dog meal. We ordered: Loco Moco Upcountry burrito Keiki plate (kids meal)

VERY DOG FRIENDLY! Appreciate that. Coffee was delicious. Eggs Benedict were delicious. Service was quick and kind. Love the decoration... makes it feel like Hawaii but closer. =)

We stayed right around the corner and kept eyeballing it so when my MIL and husbands aunt wanted breakfast, we jumped at the chance to try this place. Our service was excellent and the restaurant was adorable. I got the breakfast potato dish that I cannot remember the name of. It was good but could have used more flavor. Their food was all so good!

The exterior of the restaurant doesn't look the most welcoming being kind of fenced off but don't let that deter you. Service is friendly and the food is yummy. I love that they offer stuff for dogs. The upcountry burrito was delicious. Maui wowie pancakes were yummy. The daybreak special was pretty good. We'd go back!

A group of us walked up to the host and the host immediately racially profiled us. We were all standing close together, 3 of us are black / 2 are American-Asian. The host asked us if it's going to be table for two even though we were clearly a group of 5 together. A shame in today's society really. Thankfully the food was just as mediocre so it made the experience clear cut for us. Never visit again.

Loco Moco w/ lava volcano (or something like that) addition. Not worth the extra 4 bucks

I recently visited Daybreak Island Grill for the first time and decided to try the Loco Moco, adding the "Lava Volcano" special (or something like that) for an extra $4. The special was supposed to include kalua pork, shrimp, and a hollandaise sauce. I assumed it would come with a reasonable portion of kalua pork and a few pieces of shrimp. However, when my order arrived, they had forgotten to add the Lava Volcano topping. After I pointed it out, they brought out a small plate with just a single shrimp, a mere teaspoon of kalua pork, and a tiny splash of hollandaise sauce. All of this for an extra $4? Definitely not worth it. As for the Loco Moco itself, it was decent--pretty much like any other Loco Moco I've had. But the "Lava Volcano" addition was disappointing and absolutely not worth the extra cost. Frankly, it felt like a rip-off.

What a truly special gem in Ocean Beach! They open nice and early and have chilled champagne ready to serve. The chef came and greeted us and said good morning. Such good hospitality. This place definitely makes you feel good. Our server Irene was so sweet and kind. She took time to go over the menu with us. She answered all of our questions and was attentive to our needs. The patio is dog friendly, and she was kind to our pup. Let's get into the food! The Hawaiian Breakfast was delicious. Generous servings of all proteins. The flavor profiles were so good. Perfectly pan fried spam. Yolky over easy eggs. Rice perfectly cooked. Mac salad nice and chilled not too salty, the shaved veggies in it were yummy. Perfection. The banana bread French toast was delicious. The banana bread was moist and it's made in house! I loved the loco Moco. The gravy was the perfect flavor. Meat was seared well, not over cooked. Not too salty. The whole combination of ingredients really makes the perfect bite. We enjoyed POG mimosas and loved our experience here. Thanks to chef Lawrence for the good morning hello and delicious meal. I highly suggest and will be back. Did I mention they open at 7am?

I absolutely love their vegetarian sandwich, which I asked for double bacon on also, the food is spectacular. Staff does a great job.

And I'm someone who was born and raised in Hawaii and lived there for 18 years, so I don't say that lightly Last time, I got the poke plate with brown rice and greens, and it was delicious. Today, I got the pan ahi belly and my husband got the ahi belly bomb, and both were SO good. The quality of the fish is seriously insane. The only thing that wasn't great was the crinkle-cut fries, which were obviously frozen, but we didn't go there for the fries, so it's okay lol. Just beware that the line is super long on weekends. Something I didn't like was how hot the rice was. I don't remember having this problem the other times I came but I probably just didn't notice. Towards the end of my meal, I noticed a piece of fish was basically cooked from how hot the rice was. Not really their fault but it did make me appreciate places that put the rice and fish separate I liked the cilantro mayo ahi more than the firecracker salmon, both because of the sauce and the fish itself The poke nachos were good and super saucy, might prefer to have the spicy mayo and eel sauce on the side though so I can taste the sauce that came with the fish better My cousins tried the ahi belly bomb and I wasn't a fan

Parking was ample and it's located at the end of a strip mall. It's especially great with the large outdoor patio that's dog friendly and shared with a cocktail bar. It's a great variety of Hawaiian and Guamanian dishes which ended up being large portions as well. Once I finally decided, the katsu musubi was a great appetizer choice. For the mains went with the Chamorro combo of pork ribs, chicken kelaguen & red rice and the saimin. I'd say it wasn't quite what I was expecting. While the ribs were tasty, the chicken kelaguen and red rice tasted a little different than what I've had in the past. The saimin was decent but wasn't true local style. But in all, it was a good dinner and really enjoyed the quick service and island vibes.
