Some customers are always concerned about value vs. price, and, in this instance, the small Summer Breeze salad I had was "actually huge" and, their Top End Salad!! So for a high-end incredible salad under 17$ it is well worth it. I advise everyone in Ocean Beach to come here and enjoy their incredible salads! This is a review for the Ocean Beach location…read more Let's start with the positives first : the salad was pretty good. Now - let's get to the negatives - of which there are many. You would think one could get the salad served in a regular bowl if eating there - nope, they only have the "to go" plastic containers, even though their website shows salads served in an ACTUAL BOWL. So, great, I get to waste plastic, between the "to go" bowl, plastic fork, plastic cup for water, and plastic small cup for dressing. Second, they don't have ice?! WTF? We would like to have our Diet Coke with a cup of ice but they just....don't have any ice. Ok..... Next, let's talk about price. $16 for a salad isn't cheap, but then another $6 just to add some cubes of chicken? Really? For $22 I could go to an actual restaurant and not eat at one of these "fast casual" places. Over and over again we the public are told to "eat and spend local", but this is exactly why these places are going under. For $22 I get attitude from the 19 year old working the register, get to drink out of a can, get tons of plastic to dispose of, and get to sit in a bland, white cinder block eating area which has a beautiful view of the CVS parking lot. Learned my lesson - next time I'll go to an actual sit-down restaurant that charges the same price and is a much better experience.

You choose your base from salad, rice or pita and then they layer on chickpeas in a tomato broth sauce, grilled chicken, a different salad of cucumbers and mint with a lemony dressing and more lettuce and pickled onions and peppers with all the delicious dressing sauces and even hot sauce if you need. Service with a smile and super friendly. A few outdoor tables and some seating inside. Clean and easy to grab and go too. The overall cuisine is closer to Mediterranean not so much Mexican flavors. They are a no frills shop as they only offer chicken in 3 different flavors. The food itself tastes great, very fresh and clean ingredients. Overall, a satisfying and healthy meal for me. Street parking is abundant and they have seating inside. I'll have to knock down the rating 1 star just because compared to CAVA and chipotle the options here are quite limited (chicken being the only protein) which is completely fine if you just want chicken. Also I think $17 is quite the hefty price for one bowl HOWEVER, they do really give bigger portions here so at least that makes me feel better about spending almost $20 on a bowl. This is located in Ocean beach, a neighborhood in San Diego that doesn't have too many options so this will be the best next thing to getting chipotle and cava. I think if I lived here I would come quite often but not worth it in my opinion to drive all the way here.

Small, limited seating, nothing fancy but the food is really good. The combination plate gives you an amazing variety of choices with seriously good flavor profiles. Everyone at our table agrees. It's just yum! As I see others before me have noticed .... if you look at their egg rolls (and since I make my own I was a little surprised to see them in a greek place).... but like everything else there, the flavor is just great. The kitchen sent them to us, without ordering. And that was a good idea for proving their food, no matter what you order is authentically greek, sometimes with a twist. Thanks chef and staff. The staff is always friendly and helpful, plus they have a dedicated bathroom for paying customers. On this visit, I had the beef shawarma pita wrap. It had great flavor and paired well with the lettuce, tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, and garlic sauce. While I did have a few chewy pieces of beef, it wasn't a major issue. The pita is very filling, and I could barely finish my side salad! That said, the chicken shawarma wrap with the lemon dressing remains my favorite pita to date.

It was just a small shop where you order & go! The salmon & tuna were super fresh + flavorful... no fishy taste at all. Around $18 a plate, I thought it was pretty reasonable for poke these days. And the macaroni salad?! So unique & delish. It was made with thin angel hair noodles instead of traditional macaroni, paired perfectly with the poke. Portions were just right. Soi OB they are pretty good at letting you know what's vegan, they even have labeled vegan eggs rolls on their menu. The reason they only get 4 stars though, is because they don't have a dedicated vegan menu or anything listed as vegan(besides the egg rolls), you literally have to ask what is vegan on the menu. It's right next to Newport, the main area of OB, so it's convenient for us, it's a small little restaurant, but we don't mind when grabbing a quick bite, the service is fast and the staff is nice. Last night however, this time I had the yellow curry with mock duck and the potatoes and carrots were undercooked, in the words of Gordon Ramsay "It's Raw!" Came to mind when I bit in to them. Now undercooked carrots, sure I'll eat them but undercooked potatoes nope, they aren't able to be digested and unless you wanna spend your night trying to expel the raw potatoes from your body then don't eat them. I say that Soi OB can improve in quality control, please check that everything including your potatoes are cooked. You don't want people getting sick off raw potatoes.

Our server was so friendly and brought out menus quickly since it was self seating. The outside seating was the perfect spot for some people watching and generally enjoying the weather. Now in terms of the food.. we enjoyed the little pickle platter. Unfortunately it came out much earlier than the rolls and we were quite hungry so we ate most of them before our rolls came out. They would have been great pairings with the rolls themselves. The kabocha squash roll was so unique and surprisingly tasty. A sweeter creamier roll for sure. The salmon skin roll was a nice savory balance to the squash roll. I'd have to say the salmon skin roll was my favorite. We'll definitely be back to try some of the other rolls!

And this review is after that experience, so we can compare and contrast things like pricing and quality. When you come here you must bring a loaded wallet. To try a sour beer or any of their Russian River beers, (which was a surprise to us that there even was beer coming out of Russian River, a place I love for wine) .... is $19 for a bottle. And if you've never tried a sour beer and no one likes it, there are no returns. You pay your money and you take your chances. They are creative at The Joint. I mean an eel roll with macadamia nuts is a brilliant twist on sushi. The second thing we try is their soft shell crab roll. Delicious. Everyone at the table 'seconds' these comments. I ask someone on the way in, seated at a table eating sushi if it is good. He says: "I'll let you know". Later, he comes back to our table to let me yes! It's really good". So is this a good place to go for Sushi? The answer is yes. Is it a little confusing as an asian fusion place to have so many diverse choices? The answer is yes, but I also admit I do like all the options. Again, they call their Happy Hour food 'Tapas'. Is that Spanish, or is it just me? Japanese fried chicken or an arugula salad or oysters? lol Your taste buds must travel all over the place and that's hard on the palate and my headspace of 'what am I eating'? Is it overpriced? The answer is yes! And if I'm being honest, it surprises me that no one else on yelp is mentioning this. If money is not an issue and you want good sushi, our group recommends trying The Joint. Just don't count on happy hour having happy prices. $4 for an oyster is not happy! It's regular priced. Maybe even over priced for a happy hour menu where oysters come in at $1 and $2 for happy hour. And today, they are all out of oysters. lol We usually just tell you what to order when you go to a restaurant. This is the first time we have felt the need to let you know what you're in for, price wise. Sorry to the wonderful staff and great chef. No idea why they need to represent themselves as 'happy hour noon - 6pm every day', leading me to believe there is good pricing. But it's not my zoo, not my monkeys.
