This is definetely the best breakfast spot in town and perhaps all of San Diego. I've here several times over that last fee years and must say it's very consistant with the food and service. The Huevos Rancheros is definetely off the charts as absolutely the BEST made authentically and the eggs made the way you want it on top of the delicious ranchero sauce. It also comes with a side of fried rice and a side of beans, and salsa to boot! The service was quick, the waitress April was awesome and checked Back to see if everything was ok. We were hankering for brunch & we ended up stopping by during the Sunday rush, so we waited about ten minutes for a booth, as we did not want to sit at the counter. We ordered a wet breakfast burrito with bacon on the side and corned beef hash with scrambled eggs. Both entrees came out quickly, and they were fresh, hot and delicious as usual. Service from the regular team of folks working the dining room was efficient, friendly, and kind - as they always are. They made us feel welcome & took good care of us. I really love this spot for breakfast with my dad. We go about once a month, and the food is always consistent. OB is a nostalgic place for him, and we love walking around the beach afterward. The service is friendly, and we never have to wait long for a table. It is a classic diner with Mexican options, which gives everyone something to enjoy. Since I do not eat meat or eggs, I usually order the chilaquiles and substitute potatoes instead of meat and eggs. I absolutely love their hash browns. The portions of the hash browns have gotten smaller, and my dad has to order an extra side now. He loves the biscuits and gravy. Fire little Mexican breakfast spot in OB right on the main strip. You can't go wrong with anything after their Mexican breakfast menu. My man got the huevos rancheros and was super happy with it. But my food honestly was even better. I got the enchilada ranchero with eggs. I told the server to pick my options and she gave me one cheese and one chicken and my eggs were over medium. I had the Huevos Rancheros and my fiancée had the Enchiladas Rancheras with two eggs. My dish was great--the Mexican rice was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Took my wife and daughter here for a late Sunday breakfast, early lunch. I have to say, this place did not disappoint. I had the chicken chilaquilles, with beans and rice. The chicken was tender, moist, and well seasoned, tossed in a fantastic green salsa. The beans and the rice were excellent! My wife had the chile verde, it was the best I have ever had, and I am a Mexican food snob! The sauce it was in had a great seasoning, the meat was tender and the serving size was pretty amazing. My daughter had the carne asada plate, well carmelized onions, the carne had a nice "kissed by the flame" taste, almost similar to a fajita type serving with beans and rice. The real treat here was the service. Our server, April, was taking good care of a number of tables and keeping up with all of them. We never once had to flag anyone down, they were very attentive. I only have one negative thing to say about this place, they don't allow tips on credit cards. My wife and I didn't have any cash on us and April definitely deserved a 20% tip. I hope they reconsider this policy after reading this review, the servers were all really working hard to make sure people will come back for good service and they are getting shorted by this policy. If you notice, almost every review says something about the great service, this should be rewarded. We will be back, I want to work my way through their menu. read more

It was a cute little mom and pop restaurant in Ocean Beach. I think Machaca was definitely my favorite. Pancake was nice and fluffy, but wish the waffles were more crispy on the outside. Took a little trip, I did. Back to my hometown of San Diego. I had a grand time showing my spouse around my old haunts. I would have made a grave error if I didn't include Ocean Beach, San Diego. I learned to surf by the old wooden pier. One of the things I remembered and loved about OB was the restaurants adorning Newport Ave. There was always at least one that catered to the locals. It was a place that had good home-cooked meals at a very reasonable price. It seems Margarita's has picked up the torch and feeds their customers good, rib-sticking, meals at a price you don't need to take out a loan to pay for. I lived in several areas of OB and have so many excellent memories accumulated over the years. They have a solid line of great cooks, experienced staff that does not constantly turn over, and an interesting menu to keep you coming back. I like to order from the "Breakfast Combos" because you get so many unique flavors all on one plate. And it's not all carbs, you get protein with the combos for a really fair price. You are often served coffee or drinks quickly, and the order goes in fast. I like their plates of Mexican food choices for breakfast. I love this place! My boyfriend and I come here all the time for their chili verde breakfast. The pork is cooked perfectly and the sauce is delicious. Their tortilla and salsa is also amazing. Service is always greatest and prices are manageable. The ONE thing I recently found out is that their fries suck. We ordered a half order of carne asada fries once and realized they use steak fries.
