Hugo's Deli in Torrance is a hidden gem tucked away in a dark corner of a minimall. I have seen this place in passing for years and wondered if it was a real deli. It is real, unpretentious, and fabulous. The hot pastrami is excellent, packed with flavor and served fresh. Service is fast, making it a perfect spot for a quick lunch. Hugo and Rosa are super friendly. The sandwiches are as good as from Torrance Bakery, but Hugo's is more laid back. They have cool sports collectibles along the back wall. This includes hard to find LA Kings bobbleheads of Jack Johnson and Jason Allison. They have Dodger and Laker stuff too.

Wife and I were seeking a different place to get a good sandwich. We came across Hugo's Deli on Yelp and decided this is the Place to go.The prices are reasonable considering Boars Head Meats are used. The Mrs ordered Turkey and Avocado Sandwich on Squaw Bread and the New Italian for me. The sandwich's can be customized with your choice of condiments as well as bread(the Squaw is a must) The owner Hugo politely greats you when you arrive and takes your order asking how you'd like your sandwich. There's adequate.seething, so we ate here . The place is cozy with a mellow selection of 70's music playing to make you feel comfortable while enjoying your lunch. I highly recommend everyone give Hugo's a try

Today, I got a meatball sandwich and a potato salad Good soft roll. The meatballs reminded me more of a crumbled style, which I also like. The cheese was gooey. If I had to guess, I believe they use mustard and dill in their potato salad. Service was very friendly and prompt.

A hidden spot, fantastic food! Service was great. It was only one person running the place very nice guy & fast when making the food. The sandwiches felt like they were made with love !! It is a smaller shop, very clean & well kept. Definitely worth a try !

Fantastic menu, hearty and delicious sandwiches, and impeccable, family-like service from the one and only Hugo!! This is a Torrance must and an absolute hidden gem. High quality ingredients as well!! Don't skip this place, I can't wait to eat my way through the entire menu.

I wouldn't have known about Hugo's Deli if it wasn't for Yelp. It's a convenient location with lots of parking in the plaza. The whole plaza is a little run down but this place in a diamond in the rough. It's a small little mom-and-pop sandwich shop in a plaza on the corner of Madrona and Torrance. I ordered the New Italian to-go. The guy there (might have been Hugo?) was so very friendly and accommodating, he made my sandwich custom to my preferences. The New Italian, which also looked like their signature sandwich, as it was highlighted on their menu and at the counter, was amazing. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in the South Bay. Will definitely be back!

My hot corned beef sandwich. It was good but not a4+ on the Yelp scale
    Steve O.

I'm not sure why people love this place so much. It's good but I've never found anything close to mind blowing here that deserves a 4+ rating. I've been here twice and have found the sandwiches to be of average size, reasonably priced, and of good (not great, not amazing) quality. There was absolutely nothing spectacular about their pastrami or corned beef. Sorry if you didn't agree but when you've got the NY Deli nearby and Caps and Corks up the street, this just isn't a MUST try in my book. The owner is very friendly and they prepare your order efficiently but other than that, it's just another sandwich place in my book. Sorry.

Both the food and service were amazing! I've also had the turkey panini which was absolutely delicious

    Hot Corned Beef

Hugo is very personable and makes the best tasting sandwiches! We got ours to go but there are tables if you can't wait to eat. I had the corned beef and it was lean and tasty! I also liked the small Mac salad that came with the sandwich. Will come back for the tri tip sandwich next!

The Reuben with corned beef and the Reuben with pastrami. Both plates come with your choice of a salad and pickles. I recommend the potato salad; it's my culinary guilty pleasure. Truthfully, I don't get that much a smoky taste from the pastrami, but it's still delicious. That corned beef is so wonderful, it's so tender and falls apart so easily upon a bite. Their soda menu is a very lowkey, unsung hero. I've tried soda brands you don't typically see in grocery stores. Their ginger ale hits the spot without fail each time. I think one drawback is that this place doesn't allow adjustments. I've personally never asked for any, but I can see how other customers might find that off-putting. I typically do a pick-up order vs. dining in, but when I do enjoy the sandwich in the restaurant - the service is super quick and cordial. The interior of the place itself isn't exactly upscale, but it's also more polished than a standard diner. TONS of seating inside and a few tables outside if you want to enjoy your food with some fresh air. I'm not in New York often, but I'm so glad I can get some quality food with east coast hospitality locally.

Walking up to the restaurant, I noticed there were many outdoor patio tables lining the sidewalk. The deli counter is the first thing you see when you walk in, but there's a huge indoor dining area. The sign states to seat yourself, so as soon as I seated myself, staff provided me with a menu. I ordered a coffee and hot pastrami sandwich on rye bread which comes with a choice of salad. I chose the cucumber salad. The pastrami sandwich was huge. It was packed with a lot of high quality, tender pastrami meat. The plate also comes with a side of pickles, so yes, I was full afterwards. My coffee cup was always filled, tasted good, and hot. The two staff that were waiting on all the tables were friendly and efficient. There was never a moment I felt neglected. It's prefect for both small and large groups. Parking: Free, shared strip mall. Crowded, small parking spaces.

I came in knowing that I was looking for San Antonio Wineries Marsala, and did find some San Antonio wines on the vast wall of wine, but I couldn't find the Marsala and asked at the counter if they carry "semi sweet Marsala," (there's a whole name thing with this, but you got to know, as I was educated by one of the other wine shops I had visited!). I was pointed to the cooking section and told they had two brands: Tony's and San Antonio. Without really knowing that I knew what I needed that I had been unable to find elsewhere, they met my goal of finding this very specific item. Meanwhile, though not my first visit, but a long time since my last, I couldn't help but notice how large the space is, and how much they have to offer. Only half of the space is a store. In the back, they have a full bakery of popular Italian treats. Bombolinos and cookies and even basque cheesecake! Then they have sandwiches and other homemade meals that you can purchase by the pound. And to top off the experience, you don't have to wait to get home - there's a fountain for beverages and you can eat your deliciousness in their large dining area. I personally will be back for a lunch visit, at some point. For now, I'm going to be using that Marsala wine to attempt duplication of a nearby restaurant's chicken Marsala recipe!
