We had a great brunch here!! My Husband had the loco moco. The flavors and meat were delicious. I had the Ruben and loved it. Service was perfect. Everyone was very helpful. The menu is full of so many surprises besides breakfast. Next time I want the chicken noodle stir fry!!! They do serve beer and mimosas. We will be back next time we pass through.

I wanted to go to the Chinese place Nextdoor, but it was closed. So I tried Hugo's. I'm pretty sure my food was unfortunately from frozen, and it tasted like it. My food took a while as well, service wise. I don't think I will be returning.

Tri-tip sandwich with fruit and miso soup. Neat and fruit and soup was great, bread was flimsy and fell apart while you ate it.

My wife and I were in Carpinteria for 2 1/2 weeks and we got off the bus from LAX at Albertson's and headed across the street to Hugo's for some nourishment about 10 AM. Noon in Minneapolis. We sat down at one of the booths and I really wanted a draft beer. OK, no. I really wanted a Diet Coke from a dispenser. Nope. $8 for a beer and $3.50 for a can of soda. Water please. This was insanity. I ordered the tri-tip with fruit and my wife got the miso soup. It came out in about 8-10 minutes. We only had our water refilled once, and we had to ask. The place is Asian-fusian, so he tri-tip was like teriyaki and it was amazing. unfortunately, they don't toast the roll they put it on, so it really isn't a sandwich. There is no way you could eat this like a grilled cheese sandwich. It becomes almost comical, if not frustrating that you cannot get a bite of bread and meat and tomato in one swallow. I should give three stars, but the fruit was beautiful and the miso soup was tasty always and the meat was amazing. I almost wish they would just have an option of just the meat over cauliflower rice. Maybe they do and I did not see. The bread was a major let down. I would never go again, but people seemed to be enjoying their breakfast.

Hugo's was amazing. The food was delicious and it has the most welcoming vibe. I ordered the french toast and I loved it- It was thick and buttery. The owners are the sweetest and the service was great. I would definitely come back here.

Service with a smile and good food to boot. It was relatively quiet I came in at around 10 am. Their smile comes across as genuinely happy for you to be there. I got a basic 2 sausage, egg, pancake order and the sausage was genuinely bursting with flavor eggs were yummy and pancakes were solid. In the middle of my breakfast a patron was leaving and the owners says see you tomorrow thank you. And I completely understand why someone would have such loyal customers. I highly recommend you come sit down and eat here if you can

We passed by on the way to SF and decide to eat breakfast on the way .Found this amazing breakfast cafe right by the highway. This is a family run business and they really take care their restaurant and customer! Thank you so much for the amazing food and service! We enjoy so much especially the giant French Toast, this is the Hong Kong style French toast which is extra large, thick and fluffy! Highly recommended!

    $14.50...money not well spent.

$14.50...eggs ordered over medium came over hard, country potatoes ordered but got oily hashbrowns, three greasy sausage links, toast and zero follow up from the server. This place used to have ok food at a good value. Sorry but truth is, I will not return.

    Great vibe inside

Hugo's is a must, so so so good! Great food and excellent service, will definitely stop by every time we're in the area

There is a table right at the window so you can enjoy dining/reading/sitting with an incredible and private VIEW! This time we got the only accommodation that has TWO rooms-- so it felt like a small apartment without a kitchen! It's extra spacious and allowed everyone to have their privacy. The rooms are SUPER cute! Yes, the furniture is old. Yes, it looks like grandma's house. But from someone who has stayed in luxury resorts most of the time, these charming and timeless rooms have a special place in my heart. I'm not even sure if this makes sense, but the ambiance welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel right at home. It truly feels like I came to grandmas house. It feels so familiar and I know for a fact, staying here is healing my inner child each time. We all know the views are absolutely incredible-- I mean... breakfast buffet overlooking the cliffs AND you can watch surfers and dolphins in the distance while you enjoy your food? Can't get better than that. You can go visit the shore during low tide or walk over to the pier that leads to an island! This hotel is tucked away from the city and I absolutely love the seclusion. Although it's right next to the highway, staying here feels like stepping into a peaceful parallel universe-- the world still moves on the other side of the wall, but you're suspended in your own quiet, dreamlike bubble until it's time to return to reality. The service is too notch! She has gone out of her way to accommodate us and never made any request feel like it was too much or an inconvenience. If you thought this place couldn't get any better, it DOES-- they have a Restaurant that serves lunch and dinner!!! Let me stop before I write a novel. This has literally become my favorite hotel.

This place was buzzing on a Sunday afternoon. We waited maybe 15 minutes before we were seated out on the patio, which was shaded and nicely kept. We all were happy with our food. I got the green chile scramble with toast and hashbrowns, and I feel like that's a pretty simple brunch, but I was in heaven. Great food. My parents are older and get cold easily, so we sat next to the fire pit. It turns off suddenly and we request it to please be turned back on as it's overcast and barely noon, and a waitress who hasn't been near us in 20 minutes says she smelled gas just now and had to turn it off. Translation: cheap management saw the sun coming out and wanted to save money. There was no gas smell. So classless. Even when we mentioned it again and asked, the glazed-eyes looking girl gave a slight remix of her "unfortunately umm due to me umm smelling gas umm we are not able to turn it back onnnnn." Is everyone who works here on meds or something? Coffee was terrible and watered-down, and simple premade sandwiches took 20 minutes to heat in a panini press and bring out. Food was very mediocre and my "poached" egg was basically hard boiled. The food tastes much better when you order online, probably because they actually know you have a set time limit to pick it up so they make it fresh and with effort. They just dgaf if you're seated, I guess. Just go to Lucky Llama guys.

We ordered the cinnamon roll to start.. was ok, texture was off for us, chalky. It was soft though. Didn't finish. Hubby ordered breakfast enchiladas, myself relleno omelet, sister a scramble of some kind, biscuit and gravy, waffle and chilaquiles. Hubby said the ratio filling wasn't there; HB burnt, verde flavor so so. I had the relleno omelette, wasn't the worst but my obriens were extra and were hella burnt, didn't really have any soft potatoes to eat. Sister said scramble wasn't great either, underwhelming flavor. My homemade jam looked weird and like it was frozen previously maybe; like chunky and watery not like picture on Yelp. Coffee was bitter. Charged us for using CC, which I feel like it's a business cost, shouldn't be customers (personal opinion across the board). And then an added a 20% gratuity for 6 ppl. Pretty high percent to assume it's deserving. Maybe 15-18% with the option to leave extra is more appropriate. Would've had it removed but family was ready to go and over it. Wouldn't have stiffed her of course, she was very kind and friendly. Just not quite a 20% auto gratuity experience. I don't think we even got a happy Father's Day from anyone.. Didn't feel like we were checked on, couldn't have the jam or potatoes fixed, just saw her at the beginning and end. my daughter did say later that she came once, but apparently the rest of us 5 missed it. His didn't arrive until about 10-15 minutes later, and they forgot the bagel entirely. The server dropped the food off and disappeared. His potatoes were completely raw, the food was barely warm, and the corned beef hash had zero crisp to it. He took one bite and spit it out. We sat there waiting forever just to tell someone because no server ever checked back. Eventually another employee dropped off the missing bagel and immediately ran off again. My husband finally had to walk inside himself to tell them the food was cold and undercooked. A few minutes later they brought the same plate back out, clearly just microwaved. The eggs were now rubber, the hash was still awful, and the potatoes were still terrible. He went back inside a second time and told them to forget it and just charge us for the bagel, coffee, and my breakfast. Even getting the check took another 20 minutes. What's most frustrating is that nobody seemed to care. No apology, no urgency, no effort to fix anything properly. My breakfast was mediocre at best. The eggs and bacon were fine, but the French toast was cold and looked like plain toast, and they covered the potatoes in cheese without mentioning it. After reading other recent reviews, it's clear this wasn't just a one-off bad day. The common theme seems to be cold food, long waits, inattentive service, and management/staff who simply don't care. This place is overpriced, overrated, and unfortunately living off its past reputation. Maybe just stick with bagels.
