My husband ordered corned beef hash, eggs over easy, and a jalapeño bagel. I ordered eggs over easy with bacon, potatoes, and French toast. My breakfast came out first. His didn't arrive until about 10-15 minutes later, and they forgot the bagel entirely. The server dropped the food off and disappeared. His potatoes were completely raw, the food was barely warm, and the corned beef hash had zero crisp to it. He took one bite and spit it out. We sat there waiting forever just to tell someone because no server ever checked back. Eventually another employee dropped off the missing bagel and immediately ran off again. My husband finally had to walk inside himself to tell them the food was cold and undercooked. A few minutes later they brought the same plate back out, clearly just microwaved. The eggs were now rubber, the hash was still awful, and the potatoes were still terrible. He went back inside a second time and told them to forget it and just charge us for the bagel, coffee, and my breakfast. Even getting the check took another 20 minutes. What's most frustrating is that nobody seemed to care. No apology, no urgency, no effort to fix anything properly. My breakfast was mediocre at best. The eggs and bacon were fine, but the French toast was cold and looked like plain toast, and they covered the potatoes in cheese without mentioning it. After reading other recent reviews, it's clear this wasn't just a one-off bad day. The common theme seems to be cold food, long waits, inattentive service, and management/staff who simply don't care. I get that Mother's Day is busy. But I've never seen a restaurant fail in essentially every category. I also hate writing negative reviews, but I feel a responsibility here. We sat down in an efficient manner. Two tables sat down either side of us after us. One table got their food and was done and gone, before we even got our food. The other table also got their food before we even ordered. By the time our food did come, three of the dishes, which were hot dishes, were all served cold. Cold eggs, and cold corned beef hash. I had spoken to the hostess twice about helping us out, but to know avail. Finally, our son had to leave. Five minutes later my wife and mother-in-law left, and I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for a check. The waitress said she would give us a discount but then she just took off and after a few more minutes I just left cash for the bill. I get restaurants being busy on a holiday like Mother's Day, but cold food? And zero response from any part of the staff? We have been coming here for over 20 years for Mother's Day. We celebrated Mother's Day with brunch at Jack's Bistro and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. I had the fluffiest smoked salmon scramble with freshly baked wheat bagel. Our company has had Jack's cater our yearly Thanksgiving feast for a few years now. The food is always nice and warm and has that thanksgiving comfy feel. The dark meat Turkey was delicious, but I had a few rough outer skin pieces that didn't go down so nicely. The cranberry sauce had whole cranberries in it! My favorite! I always look forward to the cranberry and they definitely hit the mark. The mash potatoes were a great consistency of creamy with a few chunks but wasn't ultra flavorful like I expected. And the gravy on top didn't carry too much flavor either but was decent. The stuffing was great. I wish I had more! The green beans were crunchy and had garlic mixed in but I didn't taste it at all. I really wish I could recommend Jack's but it is far from the place it used to be. In the last two months, the price for a large coffee with an added shot of espresso has more than doubled. It's $2.75 to add a shot of espresso to a drink, which is their full price charge for a separate double espresso as a stand alone drink. It's one thing to charge for cost, but to charge the price of two drinks and charge $8 for a 20 oz drip brew with a single pulled shot, no additional cup, no extra cost added outside the shot itself, is pretty outrageous. The Santa Barbara and Carpinteria locations continue to be inconsistent from each other. For a place that holds so many memories for so many people, you are driving away regular business. read more
