Seems like a popular little spot in Carpinteria! It was a little hectic figuring out where to order at first, but once we got situated everything moved pretty smoothly. The outdoor seating was super cute with little steel tables and chairs, plus plenty of umbrellas for anyone sensitive to the sun. The menu was simple but had vegetarian options, and they also had a case full of bakery goodies that looked delicious. I ordered the white mocha decaf with oat milk and a breakfast sandwich -- both were really good! There wasn't too much interaction with the staff, but they kept the line moving and got the food out quickly. Overall, a great location within walking distance to shops and gardens that we enjoyed strolling through after breakfast. Definitely worth stopping by! read more

Very bad coffee with unreliably ok food. I usually order online and pickup from here when I forget my lunch at home (I work nearby), so I thought I'd treat my parents to lunch here when they visited. Bad idea I guess. My parents are older and get cold easily, so we sat next to the fire pit. It turns off suddenly and we request it to please be turned back on as it's overcast and barely noon, and a waitress who hasn't been near us in 20 minutes says she smelled gas just now and had to turn it off. Translation: cheap management saw the sun coming out and wanted to save money. There was no gas smell. So classless. Even when we mentioned it again and asked, the glazed-eyes looking girl gave a slight remix of her "unfortunately umm due to me umm smelling gas umm we are not able to turn it back onnnnn." Is everyone who works here on meds or something? Coffee was terrible and watered-down, and simple premade sandwiches took 20 minutes to heat in a panini press and bring out. Food was very mediocre and my "poached" egg was basically hard boiled. The food tastes much better when you order online, probably because they actually know you have a set time limit to pick it up so they make it fresh and with effort. Absolutely loved this cafe, the staff was friendly and helpful and happy to be there. The drinks were amazing, sadly genetics have decided that milk is actively trying to kill me so I have to drink alt milks like oat or almond, this place makes their own fresh alt milks daily and it's like nothing else I have tried, it doesn't feel like a second thought it is genuinely good. And it's a such a cute little cafe and a quiet town, we have been itching to go back ever since, to try more of their food items and of course get more coffee :). read more

While in the area on Saturday afternoon we came here to get coffee. They were almost closing so we barely got our coffees to go. I ordered a mint cold brew which was amazing. I enjoyed it very much. My husband got an Americano and said it was ok. My son liked his cappuccino and the cookie he got. They serve sandwiches, salads, pastries and more. You can eat breakfast or lunch here. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. The outdoor area is really cute with lots of tables and chairs and plants all around. Great ambiance. I was excited to try this cafe with my friends after seeing that it had many positive Yelp reviews, but I was severely disappointed in the taste of my drink and in the service throughout our visit. Though the shop was cute, clean, and had a lovely covered patio outside, I wouldn't recommend it for those stopping by for coffee on road trips. I got a seasonal spring drink called the Irish Cream Mocha and asked for it iced. Unfortunately, it just tasted like chocolate milk. Now, I like a good chocolate milk, but not when I paid for a specialty flavored mocha! I didn't detect an Irish cream flavor or even a hint of mocha. As a latte, it was way too milky and lacked the depth of an espresso drink. Contrary to its description on the menu, it wasn't balanced at all. How misleading. My friend tried one of the craft energy drinks, and it looked pretty, but she said that it was flat and tasted kinda meh. She also got a visually-appealing soda, which apparently tasted much better compared to the energy drink. Another friend ordered the seasonal Dulce de Leche Latte, and she mentioned that it was a bit too light-tasting as a latte. That checks out since my mocha also seemed like it was missing the coffee component haha. Her latte did taste like a caramelly drink made with actual dulce de leche, but she didn't appreciate that the "light" dusting of cinnamon was more like a heaping teaspoon of it thrown into the drink. We noticed that our receipts showed a higher price than what was printed on the menus. We only found out after paying and reviewing the receipts that they charge $0.75 for making drinks iced. We weren't informed of this charge by any of the ladies at the registers upon ordering, and we didn't see any signs stating that iced drinks would incur an additional charge. No explanation anywhere. Another thing that threw me off was when a certain barista handed off the completed drinks in the pickup area. She wasn't wearing gloves, and I don't think she washed her hands in-between tasks, but she was placing the drinks onto the counter while holding them by the top part, aka the lid from where people drink! I was shocked at how unbothered she was while doing that, as if that's how she was trained, or she was never corrected. read more

Just came in to relax and have a coffee. I ordered and then went to get a cup of water. The water was all gone. I told the employee working there and instead of refilling it or getting someone to refill it, she busied herself cleaning tables and dumping the dishes into the bin making lots of noise. Then she proceeded to work on the trash bins. I never got the water. I tried cafe au lait for the first time and would not get it again. Should have got a cappuccino. We stopped by to grab breakfast and it did not disappoint. The burrito was flavorful, and the salsa paired well. The tortilla was cooked perfectly as well as the eggs. I am very picky with my breakfast burritos, but this one was perfect. The matcha on the other hand, not the best. Kind of tasted more like Nesquik strawberry milk with a hint of matcha. For having such a high rating, we were left disappointed. From the chaotic ordering system, to tables not being cleaned, to food being okay, and prices being very high overall we probably wouldn't be back. We expected busyness, but the ordering system shouldn't be as chaotic as it was. Then trying to find a clean table was another experience especially with so many staff. Then we found a table full of plates and had a staff member ask us if the table needed to be cleaned. We replied yes and it was only cleaned halfway. I ended up piling the dishes on a different table and wiping it down myself. Maybe there should be a dish bucket for people to place their own dishes in if staff isn't going to clear tables. The food for the price wasn't outstanding. The breakfast burrito had a sweetness to it and the $7 fruit bowl was just melon, cantaloupe, and pineapple. For that price there should be some berries. The sticky bun was the saving grace and my husband enjoyed the coffee. I would say get coffee and a pastry to go, skip the rest. read more

This cafe is in a small community. We found this on a road trip and it was definitely worth the side quest. I love the vibe of the cafe. They had a large outside seating area. We came for the breakfast and was sold on the pastries and drinks. You order with the cashier and they bring your food out. There were plenty of umbrellas to protect you from the sun. We ordered the veggie burrito and the BLT. Drinks included lattes and orange juice not pictured. If I could give the food and pastries 10 I would. It's clearly both a local and tourist favorite--by 8 a.m. there was already a crowd, and when we drove by around 11, even the outdoor seating was full. Food My dad ordered the Avocado Toast (avocado, tomato, pickled shallots, olive oil, lemon zest, micro basil, balsamic drizzle). There's an option to add a soft egg, which he wanted but forgot to mention. It looked beautiful, though the taste leaned on the simple side. As Indians, we prefer more seasoning in avocado, but avocado purists will probably appreciate the clean, straightforward flavor. My mom and I both had the Breakfast Sandwich (egg, sausage, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, tomato, arugula). Served on sourdough bread, it was an elevated version of a classic--arguably one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. The sourdough was a perfect choice, adding a slight tang and sturdiness without being too heavy. Whatever spread they use ties everything together, making it flavorful without being greasy. Bonus points for that bread! We also shared the Pumpkin Sticky Bun--imagine pumpkin pie filling baked into a sticky bun. It was heavenly and the perfect sweet finish on a cool fall morning. If I lived in town, I'd come back just for that. The menu also tempts with items like the Sweet Loco Monkey Toast, Savory Breakfast Tartin, and Griddled Banana Bread with Whipped Honey Ricotta. Bakery & Lunch Beyond breakfast, there's a full bakery case with croissants, cookies, pastries, muffins, and scones, plus paninis and sandwiches for lunch. It's one of those places where you want to take something home for later. Atmosphere Seating is available both indoors and outdoors, with a cozy fire pit adding warmth and ambiance outside. Inside, the space is bright and welcoming, with an elegant yet casual feel that makes it easy to settle in for a relaxed breakfast or mid-morning coffee. So many reasons to love Brass Bird Coffee! The location has awesome outdoor seating with most tables in the shade. There are a few tables inside with the majority of the seating is outside. There was a line to order drinks and food, but it moved quickly. We ordered a hot cinnamon horchata latte, an iced horchata latte, a hot chocolate, the brown sugar cinnamon toaster pastry, and the chocolate croissant. The hot cinnamon horchata latte was amazing. It was sweet without being too sweet. I loved the creamy cinnamon flavor and would come back for this drink. The iced horchata did not taste as good as the hot one. It tasted more diluted with milk. The hot cocoa was not very chocolately so we asked for an extra side of chocolate sauce to add in and it helped make it sweeter. The brown sugar toaster pastry was served warm, which I highly recommend. It was delicious. The chocolate croissant was flaky without being crunchy. Both pastries were delicious, but if I had to chose I would get the brown sugar toaster pastry. The menu at Brass Bird has a variety of sweet and savory food items. The apricot scone had great texture and not too sweet. The iced vanilla latte was awesome as well. However, the honey vanilla oatmilk latte was meh I felt like it needed something else, maybe a touch of cinnamon or something? The mix of the vanilla and honey did not seem balanced either it definitely sways more honey which maybe I just didn't expect. Possibly just not my preference too. Staff were very friendly, and professional. They do not have a 2% milk option and would not mix the whole milk and nonfat milk as a customization request stating that when they get too busy it is hard for them to do that, FYI. The place is really cute would be a great place to meet a friend for coffee or breakfast. But maybe if you have specific dietary needs they may not be able to accommodate certain requests. read more
