I have to give two shoutouts to staff. First off Ana, who took our orders, answered our questions about the menu so thoroughly you'd think she'd written it herself. Love when we walk into a place and they make you feel like family. This place was IT. Then we have Jose, who has been working there for 25 years traveling from his hometown in Ventura. That in itself speaks volumes about how much a worker is cared for and clearly loved. We are so thankful for creating such a memorable experience for our family. Give these two a raise The setting inside what looks like to me and I think was an old hotel, vintage artifacts and facts about the restaurant on the walls just ooze authenticity. Now moving on to the food, prices were reasonable and incredibly flavorful. My kids and I enjoyed every last bite. My husband had the ribeye and eggs, kids had the junior French toast, and don't leave without ordering the bodacious cinnamon roll (yes the hype is real). The menu is extensive but don't feel overwhelmed that just means you need to come back again and again to try it all. We most def fell in love with this breakfast spot, we have to come back for lunch because there selections also looked scrumptious. GETTING HERE: Off the 101 Freeway in Summerland, California. Take Lillie off ramp and you will drive right into it. Sometimes parking is very very limited so just try to be mindful of that. REVIEW: Oh please do not sleep on Summerland Café. I have been coming here since the early 2010. I am so thankful that they made it through shut down. This is such a legendary, iconic, place. Food is always 100%. Over the years I've gotten a variety of items in my most recent item was the sandwich Mary Lambert, Please. My only hiccup is that the bacon was too raw for my liking. I had asked for crispy bacon first and I needed to ask a second time. But the server brought it out without a negative attitude. So that was a plus. All the food is outstanding. I'm so glad to share that! They persevered and are stronger than ever post-shut down. You have the choice to sit outside or inside depending on the availability. Terrible. Was told 15 min wait, then was told "she had no clue when a table would be ready " after waiting nearly 40 minutes.

While in the area we decided to have lunch here. It had pretty good reviews on Yelp but I was a bit disappointed. Unfriendly customer service that kind of discourages you right from the beginning. Took our waiter a while to approach us. We had to ask for him twice before he came to take our order. By the way it wasn't even busy the time we got there. It was around 2 pm close to their closing time. I ordered the cheeseburger of paradise with fries. The fries were so oily that I couldn't eat it. The burger was average but again I only ate half. My husband ordered the avo burger which he said he enjoyed. Greasy food lovers will love it here I think. Not my kind of food choice. I do love a good burger but this was not it. First time here! I honestly did not know what to expect but I had a hunch that I would have the best french toast as I was craving it. Service immediately was awesome, was greeted upon arrival. Such a disappointment. We have brunched here off and on over the past 10 years and have always had a good experience (thus return customers). What has happened here? It started with slightly off "fresh" OJ. I sent it back because it just didn't taste right. It was met with a defense of "it's fresh". Ok. Next? We split an order of their crab cakes Benedict. We waited that uncomfortable wait for our food. The wait that makes you wonder what's happening in the kitchen? Then the food arrived. The crab cakes were pale and soggy and undercooked,the entire meal, was barely on the lukewarm end of the heat scale. I had three bites and it was COLD. I had already blown it with the OJ so I just didn't eat my meal. Just couldn't. The server didn't check in with us anyway. So there it is. My disappointing experience. Really inedible. My husband ate his cold food because he was hungry enough. Not gonna risk it! That ends the return customer status. read more

Classic environment of a cafe. The staff was a family feel right off the bat. We had Jenny as our waitress and she was a perfect blend with the family feel. Our party of 4 Ordered the onion rings (half order) and they were the best onion rings I've had in my life. Perfectly hot and the batter melts in your mouth properly. A half order gave us all 2 each (8 total). I was full after that. We split a few burgers and they were lovely. Tons of flavor. We couldn't finish. The Curley Que fries were spectacular. Very disappointed, we stopped to eat here on our way back to LA. It looks like such a great place, and the food tasted pretty good, my complaint is mostly about food handling that I observed by wait staff. I'm happy to report that our server was friendly and attentive, and we never saw her do any of the disgusting things we saw other wait staff do. We (unfortunately) were seated right outside the kitchen (table 1, check 157, on 5/10/26) which gave us a disappointing view of some horrible habits of servers. What got my attention is one serving complaining about customers, mocking them and talking serious trash. We then observed several servers eating with their fingers as they stood above plates to be served, saw them literally lick their fingers, then touch plates- and not just plates but touch customers food with the same fingers. I observed the one that was complaining about customers scratching her head, then touching plates and food. We even saw one server drop a ciabatta bread off a plate, which landed on the floor- he picked it up and ate it off the floor as he was leaning over a plate waiting to be served. We didn't see one or two examples, we saw dozens!! This place seriously needs some training in appropriate / safe food handling! Again, big props to our server, she was great! How have I never reviewed this place?! Been coming here with my family for 20ish years and we just love it. Such casual beachy vibes but still a nice beautiful setting. When my recently passed dog was a pup we loved stopping here with him on our way up the coast as they are super dog friendly. I especially love dining on the little patio area to the left of where you check in. Their can be a long wait during peak hours, especially on the weekend during the summer, and parking can get a little difficult at times but it is worth the wait. The food has always been delicious and never had an issue with the service. One of my favorite items is The Big Tipper - turkey cranberry sauce and brie grilled, yum!! I always add avocado and sub the fries for their breakfast potatoes. My mother loves the LaRosa sandwich with grilled eggplant and orders it every time. read more
