Breakfast sandwich, jalapeño biscuit sandwich, and cookies!

A few weeks ago, we visited McKinney. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Hugs Cafe in downtown McKinney. Service, food, and outdoor area was great!

Talk about some big portion sizes with a lot of big hearts working here at Hugs Cafe. Upon arriving you get seated, and you can take your time to look at the menu. Afterwords, you go to the front cashier to order and pay, then get your self served drink. The food itself comes quick. & the food was great, and everything kept me wanting more. I ordered a Greek salad with chicken and it was exactly what I needed. Overall, I loved the mission of this restaurant and overall vibes. Great spot to checkout in downtown McKinney!

We had a great experience at Hugs Cafe. I absolutely love the mission of Hugs and supporting and employing those with special abilities. All of our food was delicious. I ordered a turkey sandwich with wheat bread and provolone with a side of chicken tortilla soup and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The soup was hearty and flavorful. The sandwich came with a generous amount of meat and fresh tasting cheese. I also tried some of the Monte Cristo sandwich, which was LEGIT, and I would recommend with all the stars. The oatmeal raisin cookie was thick and chewy, satisfying my cookie cravings. I loved that our food was served with a chocolate Hug. We were visiting during a Christmas event in McKinney, so it was more crowded than usual. The bonus surprise was that I got to eat my lunch next to Santa Claus. Y'all, you know this is *the* place to eat if Santa, Mrs. Claus, and his elf entourage all choose it for lunch. :-) All of our servers were warm and friendly! Definitely try it and spread the word!

Great place and a great idea for the community. Hugs Cafe Inc is a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to providing meaningful training and competitively-paid employment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The interior is spotless, lots of seating. Staff were very capable and friendly. Food is solid as well. I highly recommend.

Hugs Cafe is more than a restaurant--it's a place with a beautiful mission. My friend, who's a huge supporter of Creativity Explored - https://www.creativityexplored.org - in San Francisco (an art studio for adults with developmental disabilities), was thrilled to visit this cafe and see a similar cause at work here in Texas. If you're ever in SF, check out the art for sale at Creativity Explored in the Mission District, too! We came for lunch and were treated to delicious food and inspiring moments. We shared the pimento cheese, the turkey and peach sandwich, and a slice of chocolate pecan pie that's a must-try. Every dish was made with care, and you could feel the love that goes into this place. What really touched us was seeing the training in action. There were lots of employees learning not just job skills but valuable life skills. The manager, so warm and patient, gently reminded them to engage with each other and to limit their screen time--a lesson we could all use! It was a wonderful experience, with a delicious meal supporting a cause that deserves all the love. If you're in the area, don't miss it!

    Classic Sandwich on marble rye

Went to hugs cafe after an event. When I came in I was seated immediately and given a menu and told how to order. I ordered the classic sandwich on marble rye and honestly for a basic sandwich it was delicious you can tell it was made with love. The place is simple, yet welcoming and warm. I look forward to going back and trying other items on their menu.

Customer service was quick and friendly. I got the classic roast beef & the bourbon chocolate pecan pie. I like that they really load their sandwiches with meat

The burgers are consistently incredible: perfectly crisped edges, juicy centers, and layered with just the right balance of flavors. You can tell there's real intention behind every ingredient. Service is 1 Food…read moreis 5 That is my rationale for 3 review. Tried this place twice. I will say, the food is good and unique selection of frozen meats and menu items The customer service is not good! A young lady who works there (same person on both visits) is not very friendly! Not inviting with her personality. Rude and seems like customers are bothering her. I chalked it on my first visit as her having a bad day. Not going to judge her on first impression. We a have bad days. Went back for a second visit. She was on the phone with a customer taking an order and was rude and "huffed and puffed" when she got off the phone. While the customer "may" have been difficult, this was my second time seeing her "annoyed" and/or "rude". I grabbed three items from the freezer. Two items had no price tag. Another young lady took the two items and weighed them to place a price tag on them. She did not tell me what she was doing, yet I quickly figured out what she was doing as she grabbed the items without speaking to me. Even though she didn't communicate her actions, I shrugged it off. I was not bothered. Back to the original lady who has now ended her phone call. She begins to ring up my items and takes the label off of the third item, which already had a price tag of $17 (and change). Without saying anything g to me, she takes the tag off the item and rings up the item at $21 and continues adding the other items. Remember, she has said nothing to me as to why she did this AND remember, the item already had a price on it if $17. I stopped her and asked, "Why did you ring me up at a different/higher price?" Her response, "It's wagyu!" Still confused because it was already priced/tagged, I replied, "Ok. It already had a price and you just took it off and didn't say anything to me as to why you did what you did." "Well, it was labeled wrong!" "And how am I supposed to know that and how is that my fault? When I pulled it out of the freezer, it was labeled $17!" I then realized, she had assumed the young lady who weighed and put labels on the other two items had also put the label on this item. She continued, "We have some new employees and they have been labeling some items incorrectly." "So I'm am punished for your (company) mistakes? The label was already in the freezer on item for $17. If that is the price ($21), fine. At a MINIMUM, you could have given me the courtesy of telling me what you were doing instead of just taking it off and changing the price without saying anything to me!" She was quiet for a moment and then said, "If you don't want it, I can take it off. It's the price of the wagyu. There is nothing I can do!" "Yes. There is something you can do, because you just did it! (Making note she changed the price from $17 to $21) I would think you would honor your mistake, and allow the customer (me) the $17 price and inform me of the mistake. Regardless, I still want the wagyu, because I want to try it. That would be the proper way to handle that [situation]." She just looked at me and finished the transaction and asked if I wanted my receipt. Again, very rude interactions both times. I am struggling if I will ever go back. I like this place and want to support the local business. She has just rubbed me the wrong way, so I am jaded. Maybe if she isn't there next time, I will go inside. If she is there I might just leave. LOL

I am very displeased with the manner in which I ended up with what I "NOW" know was optional.... at an additional charge. Since the sandwich was basically a Thanksgiving meal on a bun, when the order taker/server asked if I wanted the gravy on the sandwich or on the side, and this being my first time to darken their door, I said, "on the side". My sandwich was a very reasonable $7.99. Ordered! Expect ill with tax to be $8.50-ish. NO.... $10.26. By the time it registered that something was amiss (by my thinking) she was wrapping up the order for me. I reminded her (I am sure she didn't have a clue about the story) of the mom and pop store that kept a hand broom by the register and on every order, they would automatically scan the broom. Most people never checked their receipt to know the difference and if they did it was chalked up to being an accident. That being said... I diligently searched the menu board for a side of gravy or an Asterix noting an extra charge for the gravy and it was not to be found... anywhere. She did not say anything acknowledging a problem from that side of the register. I wished her a happy New Year and left. I will be a repeat customer because the meal was great. But I should have had been told the gravy was extra. Now that I do know, I can't imagine NOT ordering the gravy. But it was a devious tactic to stick us with an extra charge that the person could kit show me on the board. Despite my rant, if you are a sandwich person, DO GO!
