Lets talk about how amazing SHUN is. We kind of went here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by the phenomenal food amd service. Upon walking in, there was a full restaurant with a beautiful open kitchen. We got to sit outside, which had TVs and a view of the large screen in the area. Outside had heaters to keep you warm. Each item we ordered had a blast of flavor and you could tell each ingredient was throughly thought through. I couldn't say there was one dish that I would improve because it was all perfect. I would say this restaurant is Michelin recommendation worthy. & we will be back.

We visited New Year's Eve and ate like kings and queens! Miyazaki A5 Wagyu from Japan on a Rock Jodlri YakitoriJI Chicken skewers Charred edamame with lemon garlic soy sauce Crispy Shrimp California Roll Sashimi flown in from Japan - Butterfish Back9Dallas Roll Double Pleasure Roll Full bar, too, with holiday drinks. Fantastic service from Rachel but Shun uses a team so there was always someone stopping to delivery food or drinks and as soon as we finished a dish someone picked it up. Really a nice touch. All in for this experience was $276 with drinks.

Went here to get our sushi fix and upon walking in i was definitely impressed with the classy black decor of the restaurant. Service was really good, all the waiters were very attentive. We got the crispy shrimp which i would skip for next time. The crunch and the flavor was good but the shrimp itself was overcooked and the sauce just tasted like sriracha mayo, it wasn't anything special. Their pork belly miso skewer was surprisingly what stood out the most during our meal. the 8 piece omakase was good, but nothing mindblowing. I would've appreciated a written down description of each flavor pairing as the waiter just told us everything in one go as she presented the plate of sushi for us. This sushi restaurant is definitely on the pricey side.

Swam into Shun for to fulfill a sushi craving, and I came out pretty satisfied. Service is pretty standard, with all the food coming out in a timely manner. I was in awe by the decor, especially the fish chandelier. We ordered the omakase, crispy shrimp, and the miso pork belly. The sushi was tasty, with a lot of fun pairing flavors.

Went here for my dad's birthday and I have to say was impressed with the place overall! Very nice restaurant for special events and date nights. We went during lunch so it was not as busy. I definitely liked the decor and ambiance of the place. For sure upscale than most sushi restaurants in the area and conveniently located next by 121 McKinney. We ordered an assortment of foods (see pics) and sampled each one. All were super tasty!! For not being that busy, I would have to say that the sushi took some time to get out but we did order quite a bit. The chirashi presentation was pretty cool as well so I guess worth the wait if you're into that like I am lol. It was my first time but my parents have been there a few times and like this place. I'll definitely come back and try the rest of their menu! Price: $$-$$$$ (depending what on you order) Service: overall good, friendly Ambiance: 4.5 stars

SHUN falls into a spot where most of the omakase experiences in DFW eventually ends up. It's where the sushi is good but there's nothing outstanding about it that makes the experience stands out from the rest. If you've had other omakase in DFW, you won't find anything new here. The nigiri is on par with the rest of the choices around town. Albeit the yakitori does stand out a little. The atmosphere can get loud and be distracting when you're trying to listen to the chef talk.

Stylish spot with room to grow Shun definitely brings a chic vibe--the design is beautiful and sets the tone for an elevated dining experience. The cocktails were well-crafted, and the plating on each dish was impressive. It's clear they care about presentation. Service was solid--friendly, professional, and well-paced throughout the evening. No complaints there. The food, though, was inconsistent. A few dishes delivered on flavor and creativity, but others fell flat--either under-seasoned or just not as memorable as you'd expect given the price. For a place with this kind of polish, I was hoping for more depth across the menu. Overall, it's a nice spot and worth a visit if you're nearby, but I wouldn't rush back. With a few tweaks to the menu, it could easily be a standout.

OMG! This has expeditiously moved up to my favorite Japanese Restaurant. I am soooo serious. I went here on a rainy Monday. I was in the area and searched Yelp for a great recommendation. Thank you YELP! I am so very delighted and captivated by this place. From the interior beginning at the front door to the back of the building this place is IT!!! Oh and the food smh.... ‍ my taste buds were peaked and highly pleased. I enjoyed every bite down to the last drop. I ordered from the lunch menu. This is what I had: 20/10 Edamame with lemon garlic soy sauce- bursting with flavor. The grilled style along with the flavors are spot on and the best I have had. No reason to not have it this way going forward. A lunch combination (not sure of the name) including soup, salad, sushi, and a roll. Great price and delicious options. 10/10 Miso soup- tasty, perfectly seasoned, warm, satisfying. 10/10 Salad- great fresh ingredients, I love the crunch element. Dressing is tasty a great mix of ingredients. 15/10 Sushi Roll- not sure what the roll is called. It was well put together. Fresh ingredient and Delicious flavors. Loved it! 12/10 Sushi- various options of high grade pieces. The freshness and flavor is so on point. I am really pleased with the quality and specific attention to its detail. 10/10 Sake- great balanced flavor, smooth I plan to try EVERYTHING on the menu! I mean it!!

My visit to Shun was a treat! The decor and interior are classy and elevated. Our server was wonderful and was very helpful in answering any questions we had. Miso pork belly (8.5/10): The meat was marinated well, with juicy thick cuts of meat. Uni (10/10): Can't go wrong with uni Sizzling eel rice (8/10): Very delicious! The hot stone bowl elevated this dish. Typically with eel dishes, the fish is drowned in eel sauce. This was great because you could really taste the eel. However, we would have preferred either less rice or more eel since the ratio feels unbalanced. Sashimi premium (7/10): The fish selection was good, eight types of fish for two people! There was uni included for this price point as well which was a nice surprise. My main criticism for Shun is regarding the sashimi premium, particularly the smoked salmon, scallop, and mackerel. Typically, mackerel is not served in a chef special because it's a bit controversial. I was surprised they served it in the first place compared to sea bream or yellowtail. Same goes for the smoked salmon. The scallop given to us was merely half a scallop; We expected each serving to be a full piece, butterflied. The scallop was delicious, but it felt skimpy to only give half per person. I would definitely come back to Shun because of its great location and good quality sushi. We would just stick to ordering a la carte, however.

This place is popping up all over my social media so we came here for our post Valentines celebration. We order a good variety of food and were impressed by it all. I couldn't determine a favorite dish bc they were all so awesome. I only could decide that of all the dishes I only had ONE dish I could decide that I didn't like as much and it's not to say it wasn't good, it just wasn't my jam. The dish that surprised me was the eggplant. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as the others since it's "just" eggplant, but it was very well executed. Service was amazing! Our server was the perfect amount of attentive and so sweet! The owner came by and checked on us at some point as well. Definitely a place we'd come back to!

Really good for our first visit! We weren't very hungry so we didn't order too much but what we did order was very good, we especially loved the lemon garlic edamame. Will definitely be back!

Shun has THE BEST SUSHI!!! My husband and I stopped by for lunch a few weeks ago and we've been hooked ever since! They offer a wide variety of fish and their menu is always changing which is so awesome. The rolls are great too. Upscale sushi spot in McKinney and service is fantastic.

For our table we ordered the sashimi bento box which came with fresh slices of salmon, tuna and white fish. The portions were extremely generous as they also included salad, miso soup, tempura with veggies, and a double order of california rolls. Thats definitely a Texan sized meal. We also ordered a octopus roll. This came with a large portion of ginger and wassabi too. Food was delicious, pricing wise even more competitive to Carrollton and we were in the vicinity so it was extremely convenient to nearby attractions, including the downtown McKinney historical district. The staff was genuinely friendly and attentive, which immediately set a positive tone for the experience. The menu offered a great variety with plenty of options, and I really appreciated that items were clearly marked to indicate whether they contained raw fish. That's a thoughtful touch that makes the menu more approachable for guests who may be new to sushi or prefer cooked options. Presentation-wise, the rolls looked fantastic and were plated beautifully. The flavors were good as well. However, the one thing that held the experience back for me was the portion size of the rolls. Some of them were extremely large--my Rock & Roll was so big that fitting a single piece comfortably in my mouth was a challenge. Sushi is traditionally meant to be eaten in one bite to enjoy the balance of rice, fish, and fillings. When the pieces get too large, it can throw off that balance and make the eating experience a bit messy. I also found the eel sauce to be unusually thick--almost molasses-like--which didn't quite have the smooth, glossy texture I typically enjoy. Overall, it's still a solid spot worth trying, especially if you enjoy larger rolls and generous portions. For me personally, the size of the rolls disrupted the balance I look for in sushi, so it may not become my regular spot--but others may really enjoy it.
