My husband loves HuHot, so we go at least twice a year for him (his birthday and Father's Day), but honestly, I never look forward to it. When it first opened, it was pretty good, but it is clear the staff doesn't care about the cleanliness at all. The floors always have food on them, even under "clean" tables, the high chairs feel sticky, and even the dishes just don't feel right. The bathroom is pretty gross, too. The service is average, sometimes we get someone amazing. The best part of going here are the cooks. They are so polite, they are very dedicated to their job, and they always cook my food perfectly. While the food is good, I really wish the owner/managers would take bad reviews seriously. I've seen reviews from the past few years talking about how dirty it is, and I've yet to see a difference. If anything, it gets worse over time. Please seriously do a deep clean. I feel so uncomfortable sitting at any table because it is always so nasty and sticky. read more

I've been to Huhot a few times and the food and service were decent. On my last visit on Thursday night the food was bad. The Cilantro and bean sprouts were a gooey rancid mess. The restocking worker didn't know which bin was cilantro or bean sprouts, and when he figured that out, he replaced the cilantro with more rancid cilantro. The sliced beef was a large re-frozen block of meat which made it very difficult to serve. Fresh food should be your first priority. Clearly the staff needs some training. If all you have is rotting vegetables, don't serve it!! read more

Just Ok. #1 don't order the appetizers. These are all frozen junk you can do yourself. We got the appetizer platter and it was $11. You can eat it but if I am out at a restaurant I want fresh food. #2 the stir fry grill was good but not outstanding. In my world just ok.. means I would go back.. but I would not crave it or want to go too often.. Just OK. Two stir fry plates, two sodas and the appetizer platter $50. HuHot is my teen's favorite restaurant -- he's also an extraordinary picky eater! If you have one of those at your house, HuHot is the remedy. This time, the short order cook isn't you! Very consistent service at this location and the servers are always kind and pleasant. The food bar (?) has been neat and tidy, which is a task all by itself! Great restaurant for vegans/vegetarians. I love the mix and match drink menu as well as the appetizers and desserts. We've had the wontons/rangoons as well as the s'mores! That's especially fun to do with kids. read more

This wasn't actually my first visit here; but since I didn't review it the first time 'round, I'll do it now. Two big thumbs up. They've got pretty much every sort of meat (who'd'a thunk sliced Polish sausage would be so good in a stir-fry?), noodle, veggie, sauce and topping (why weren't the crushed peanuts labeled?) you might want on your mix-it-yourself stir-fry or noodle dish. Our waiter warned us to go easy on things, particularly the first time through the line: good advice. My daughter went the opposite way, filling one bowl with noodles and the other with meat and veggies to be mixed with the noodles. I thought the meat tended to disappear, so I'd go a little heavy on that. I'd also recommend at least three dippers of sauce (I went with six for my second creation, and that didn't seem too much at all.) Service was generally pretty good (though the appetizer plate I ordered didn't register with him: we had to reorder it after we did our first trip through the line. Went to make our bowls the person at the grill managed to mix up mine with another customers. I was passing through Davenport on a cross country trip, this being my first stop for the night. I yelped ahead for places to eat and HuHot caught my eye. I love me some stir fry! To be honest I almost turned right around and left. Right inside the door there was a steady line of people waiting. The place was jumping! But it was a friday night, I was by myself, and didn't have anything else to do so I figured I could wait. Being by myself I was told I'd wait 5-10 minutes. I waited 5 at most. First things first: The drink selection. Braaavo! 100+ choices, flavor shots into Coke products, and a low/no carb selection. Genius. The soup I chose was Spicy Chicken Egg Drop. In hindsight I wish I'd gone with the Asian Salad. With white rice added to it let's just say...it was soup. Lol On to the main event, the bowl! The selection of meats and noodles was vast, as well as the sauces and oils. Add a very well put together line of fresh vegetables and you're good to go! I tip my hat for sure to the "warriors" for being able to keep track of whose bowl they're working on and trade off for completion. I absolutely love this place. I go so often, most of the employees know me. You will have quite a wait if you go on a Friday or Saturday night. 15-20 minutes. Monday-Thursday dinners aren't horrible, but there is still a wait from time to time. It gets very busy because it is a very popular place. The best time to go is for lunch, but not during the lunch hour, as it gets very busy then too. Don't just the food based on your first time. You may not have found the right combo yet. And if you don't like what you get, you are welcome to set it aside and go back and try again. It is a one size bowl, but it's all you can eat and there are no leftovers. They have over 100 drink choices. The staff is very friendly. Take heed, it does get expensive. If you've been to HiHo, and you're used to the bowl sizes, and the cheap-ish price, and being able to take home leftovers, you may be a little butthurt about how Huhot does it. To me, it's completely worth it. My combination at Huhot is better than my combination at HiHo. read more

While I do like the fact that they have a new Coke machine (allowing for numerous different soda options not available in traditional places), but unlike the other "Mongolian Grill" places in town, HuHot only has one size - all you can eat. Also, according to the posted signs in the restaurant, you're not allowed to take any food home. One of the reasons I like Mongolian BBQ is that it reheats so well and makes great leftovers. For roughly the same price as a giant bowl (which I can get leftovers with) somewhere else, I am classified as "all you can eat" at HuHot and am not allowed to take anything with me. Just seems... unfair. In terms of the food, I honestly found HuHot to be comparable in terms of food to the other Momgolian options in town - I wouldn't necessarily choose one over another for the food. I will say that while the other Mongolian places has a much more "authentic" feel, this absolutely feels like a corporate environment and while pleasant - I'm a fan of the authentic feel (others may prefer corporate). They cook the food in one place, using a metal spatula (though my boyfriend tells me that if there are enough people, food will travel one way, and the chefs will travel another). It just seemed to lack... presentation and flair that other Mongolian places I have been to have (while they cook the food, they rotate it around the grill using a nifty looking double rod). I will say that I also wasn't a fan of our appetizers, the crab rangoon was just... so so (and I LOVE crab rangoon). We did the trio platter, and the other options were alright, but they were unremarkable. All in all, it wasn't bad, and the wait staff was super friendly, they even let a couple bring in separate food for their young daughter (who looked 5 or so and wanted familiar food). It was nice to see a restaurant so accommodating. I'd return if my boyfriend really wanted to go, or if someone wanted to take me, but because they taste roughly the same and I get left overs, I'd choose the other Mongolian option in town. read more

HuHot is a guilty pleasure! For all that this chain is most certainly just a dressed up buffet, the food is good and the atmosphere is pleasant. Service is great, both at the table and at the grill. Here's how it works: grab a bowl, fill it up all the way with cold pressed meat (better yet: try the meatballs), noodles, and veggies, top it off with sauce or oil (Five Village Fire sauce is THE BOMB! Use way more sauce than you think you need, or your food will be dry), hand over your bowl to one of the guys manning the grill and watch as it cooks before your eyes. I love the infinite number of combinations you can try. If something absolutely hasn't worked (I've been guilty of making plates that are way spicier than I can handle) you can go back and try again. There is a menu with appetizers and entrees, too, but I've rarely ordered anything off of it. If you're looking for a traditional Chinese restaurant, you're probably better off going somewhere else. read more

This was the worst in so many ways... the place was covered in food and garbage all over the floors. My food was out on the grill and left to burn. It was mixed with spatulas covered in old food and food from all of the other meals on the grill. The spatulas were kept in the food catch below the grill which was filled with uncooked and old food. We waited 7 minutes to get silverware because they were out. I can't think of any place I have ever eaten that was worse. They were under staffed for the amount of customers they were letting in the facility. They didn't have enough food or clean dishes to accommodate. I'm a huge HuHot fan, as is my son. It's his go to restaurant of choice. I've been to this location probably a good dozen times or so and keep trying to give it a chance. The first few times were great. But it's slowly driving me away from it. I seem to run into some issue each time I go there. A couple times I went around opening time and they were out of milk and half the pop options. I eventually had to ask what they had because everything I asked for they didn't have. This happened on a couple of occasions. Most recently we visited twice at lunch time on a week day and they didn't seem to be staffed very well. It was a long wait to be seated, then we made it through the line for our food only to come back and have to wait another 10 minutes for our drinks and rice to arrive at the table. I don't eat the noodles, but do eat the rice with my meal so I patiently waited for it to arrive to enjoy with my meal. Again, this was early afternoon and the place was practically empty, so not sure why it was taking so long. On one specific occasion I had to basically flag down our server a few times, once to get us a refill on drinks and to refill the rice bowl and then once we were finished I'm assuming she had taken a break, because we had to wait about 15 minutes for her to reappear on the dining area floor so I could once again flag her down for our check. I witnessed at least 2 other groups of people be seated then wait for 5-10 minutes to even have their drink order taken since the server was nowhere to be seen. The floors have been sticky as well as the tables the last few times we were there, which arriving when it's pretty empty, in the middle of the day during the week I would expect it to not be so filthy that my shoes are sticking to the floors. Although there have been some issues going there, the food has still been great and the cooks do a fantastic job cooking it, it's mostly the servers and cleanliness that are beginning to slip. Love Hu Hot! There's another Mongolian Barbecue place in town & they're good too, but I'll go to Hu Hot every time because of cleanliness. I'm low carb & it's so easy to have a meal here. I don't love how the sprouts look (Been here several times & they always look the same. I don't think they're old, I think it's being stored in a very cold fridge - they partially freeze maybe?) And I don't love the fish... that came out very mushy. But everything else is wonderful! You can make it as spicy as you like or as mild as you need. The servers & guys at the grill are always very friendly. The only thing is that you usually have to ask for your check, they're slow to bring it out. HuHot is one of our favorite lunch spots. We love that we can make our dishes exactly how we like them. I like mine milder than my husband so having the control of how much sauce goes in is just perfect for us. I will leave all the hot ones for him! The service is always good too. Stopped on the way to Minnesota in the I-80 Quad Cities food Corridor. Plenty to choose from in this area. The Mongolian BBQ basics were there : the meats, the seafood, noodles, veggies. What sets this place apart is the sauce station. 12 to choose from, in addition to the oils. Since it's "all you can eat for one money", you can ladle into the wells of sweet flavor in a couple different combinations. My favorite combo was the Khan's Revenge with a little Burn Your Village BBQ and some Lime Juice. Went to the HuHot today there was 4 people in the restaurant we were seated and we were never approach by a waiters or waitress. I got up and asked the hostess if it was ok to go thru there food line and could we get are drinks, I ask her for appetizers she took the order and it never came. I asked to talk to a manager and they sent the busboy over to listen to are concerns. We still never had anyone come to table and solve are issues. My husband and I stopped here for lunch, and we JUST left. It was so good I had to write this immediately. First, our waitress we had was a young woman with brown hair. She is the best waitress either of us have ever had wait on us in our lives. She had the perfect balance of being friendly, helpful, polite, there when she was needed, and gave us space when she wasn't needed. There is literally nothing I could critique her on. Second, the food was amazing! You need to pick wisely. Pick stuff you like and know your heat/spice tolerance. I think this place is a touch over-hyped, but really, I have nothing bad to say about it. The most critical thing I can say is that this is not really what I consider "Mongolian". They cook your stuff on the grill in front of you, but that's about the extent of what I think makes it Mongolian. I guess it's just because my idea of "Mongolian" really ought to include Mongolian BBQ... but I digress. The prices seemed really reasonable... especially the kids prices for those under 10 years old. We were really surprised how easily we got a table for 5 on a Saturday night. And the nice thing about self-service is that your food is ready right away, compared to waiting forever for someone to prepare your meal in the kitchen. The waitress was very helpful and attentive too... We ordered eggrolls and got them right away, along with our drinks. (Random side note: think hard before ordering appetizers... you really won't need them with all-you-can-eat grill..) The bowls they give you are obviously designed to keep you from going overboard with all the choices you can get, but really, a slightly bigger bowl would be helpful. I picked some meat and noodles and then really couldn't fit much by way of veggies without overflowing the bowl. My advice: go easy on the portions, because you can go back. Personally I'd prefer to be able to fit more into the first serving and not go back for seconds because of the small bowls. I thought the sauces were pretty amazing in how many choices there were. I liked the way they posted "recipes" for getting the correct sauce to your tastes... Hubby was quite happy making a "Thai" sauce... and then a "sweet and sour" sauce... and the kiddo without imagination enjoyed that he could just put teriyaki on his and not choose what to combine. They have one of those fun soda machines that lets people pick the fun drink combos (although you have to tell the waitress which combination you prefer)... That's kind of cool... I learned that I do not like cherry vanilla in my Coke... Happily I was able to ask for a Peach Sprite on the next refill... but not before my waitress had already brought me another Cherry Vanilla Coke. She was really attentive!
