I am usually anti buffet, but Pizza Pie Cafe is one of the few buffets that don't bother me. Regarding food they offer up some pretty interesting pizza toppings. Obviously being a buffet, I'm not expecting Michelin star quality food, but their pizza tastes fine. They have games on their TVs that you can use to play on your phone, it's not a huge deal one way or another but I like playing the games with my kids, it's enjoyable. It's a really good place to take a decent size group as there are a lot of tables and booths and I've been able to fit any size group in there. I haven't seen it dirty or ever had any concerns with their cleanliness. They take good care of it. As far as service goes it is a buffet but there are people who come to your table and are open to listening if a certain pizza (available at the buffet, not custom) you want can be prepared while they talk to you. Some of the pizzas fly off the second they are put on depending on how popular they are. They also have salads and pasta with pretty standard toppings. This place is a kids heaven...if they like pizza. My kids love this place, that's for sure. So sad when Covid shut down the Bountiful location but luckily this one isn't too far from home. I feel like they did a great job with keeping the place sanitary; mixing Covid with a buffet doesn't seem possible, but I think they did a great job and I felt completely safe eating here. The Pizza here is definitely below par but, again, kids don't really know the difference between good and bad pizza. I will say though, the Oreo and apple dessert pizzas are delicious. I love them!!! Came in Halloween before trick or treating and were pretty disappointed. There was hardly any pizza to choose from to eat. Employees were doing a lot of standing around and they weren't making a lot of pizza. I only saw one come out of the oven while we were there. There was no pizza of the month available, and I get tired of eating cheese and pepperoni pizza. They had a lot of a spicy one, but I don't eat spicy food. So...apparently since my New Years Eve visit, no one has read the culture at this location. Walked in on a weekday at 4:30P and 5 or 6 employees standing at the cashier's station, including a male who looked to be a manager. One young man with braces greeted us & offered to take our order. Responded they do have a military discount and asked if we wanted drinks. (Very pleasant young man.) There is apparently a $5.99 special if you eat between 2-4P on weekdays, and we had missed it, which is fine, except we apparently missed the opportunity to have a decent seat with a clean table. There was not a single 2-seat booth in the place unoccupied that was clean. There were also numerous other tables filled with dirty plates. Our choices were: back room, 1 4-person table, 2 8-person tables, or a table in front of the drink & buffet station. (Not what I prefer since I don't want to be front row to watching people fill their plates.) Another male who looked like a manager came breezing through the back while we were eating, but did nothing about the tables. Saw young man with braces taking a bus tub to clear tables (guessing). Others who were milling around front when we checked in never lifted a finger to clear. So...my great impression of the customer service went down hill. The last time I ordered, I only wanted an "individual size" (combination - minus pepperoni) pizza, and bread sticks. I actually RECEIVED a LARGE pepperoni (not combo). Not a happy customer. We waited forever to be helped when we first walked in. Pizza is very old they have not restocked anything salad bar doesn't have eggs or ranch dressing. When I asked someone to restock salad bar I was told they are out and she is the only person working kitchen so sorry deal with it. Great pizza buffet. The Layton area really lacks a good pizza buffet... UNTIL NOW! This place just opened up last thursday, and it's great! It reminds me a lot of Cici's Pizza, which we don't have around here... But I think Pizza Pie is even better! They have a wide variety of pizzas.. My favorite is definitely the Firefighter... delicious! Like most pizza buffets (or really just buffets in general) most things are good, not great. But some are awesome! And nothing is bad.. All you can grub places tend to have a very "meh" expectation. Pizza Pie breaks through that and will leave you surprised and happy with the experience. There are many different kinds of pizza on display. We had over 10 to choose from and they were cooking and laying out fresh pie as quickly as the customers could snarf it down. Rarely was there an empty pan under the heat lamp and the staff kept up well. In addition to pizza, there's a noddle bar with different types of pasta cooked fresh for you when you ask and 6 or so different sauces. Pasta sauce in a bulk container isn't appetizing looking but the two or three I sampled were quite tasty and with the different cheese choices for toppings, this is a win. There is a salad bar with an excellent selection of stuff to make it less healthy and dessert pizzas as well. Bread sticks and knots to accompany your pie give this an all around thumbs up. The affordability is nice as well. You'll get out under $10 for lunch (with a drink) and a few bucks more for dinner. Be advised that this place is a Mecca for large families and groups in the evening so, if you don't like a crowd, go early or hit the lunch scene. read more

Today I went in to get a salad bar to go, and while I waited for the cashier to come up I browsed the take-out menu and thought they must've dropped the price of the salad bar (score!) because the past few times I was paying almost $7 and it's in there for $4.25 now. I ordered and she told me almost $7 again, so I questioned the advertised prices. She said "Oh you must want a small then" and when I asked her the size difference because it might be worth it to me to get the larger one, she said there isn't one, it's the SAME container. Sure enough, she brings out the large takeout container. This is incredibly deceitful, since I have been paying over $2 more for quite a while. When I went in the very first time and she told me it was $6.50 + tax, I never questioned it. Not the greatest pizza but pretty good for a buffet. Crust is chewy and fresh tasting. Toppings are minimal but the crust is thin so it equals out well enough. The variety is solid, including a creamy chicken alfredo, one with roasted jalapenos, meats, veggies, the obligatory Hawaiian etc. Selection of sauces is an excellent addition and puts the overall experience over the top IMO. Flavorful variety from sweet to zangy to spicy. They boast of a salad bar with the "freshest ingredients." Pure malarkey. Bagged lettuce, canned olives and peppers, jarred imitation artificial bacon bits, and of course massive jugs of crappy dressing. Still, and holding to the theme, pretty good for a buffet. Service is friendly at the front counter and employees display some considerable hustle. Good thing, since they're busy as hell at peak times. I think pizza is one of the few vices Mormons allow themselves, and given the relatively low cost for AYCE, a good option for feeding your picture perfect family of eight. Speaking of Mormons, carbonated drink selection is off the chain. Some 15 odd soda fountain choices including Diet Mt. We thought he'd wake up when we sat down, so we paid for him to eat. He ended up staying asleep and laying next to me on the bench seat. The rest of us ate, so we decide to leave. We grab a couple slices of pizza to take with, for my sleeping child to eat when he wakes up. Pizza Pie Cafe employee gets after us, says we can't take food home with us. We explained that our son, whom we paid for, had slept the entire meal and didn't get anything yet. We know you don't normally take food from all-u-can-eat places, but felt an exception could be made since he hadn't eaten ANYTHING and we paid. The employee said NO EXCEPTIONS. So being annoyed I decide to go demand a refund for my son, even though it's only a few dollars, to make a point. Then I saw the line was even longer then last time, RIDICULOUS. This really is as good as a pizza buffet gets. I just noticed this place last week and my husband's fav words are All You Can Eat so we had to check it out this week. We were very impressed! While this isn't the best pizza we ever had, it is the best pizza at a buffet by far. I started at the salad bar because I LOVE salad bars. It's not a huge salad bar but they have a nice lettuce mix and spinach and yummy veggies - the only thing I wished they had was shredded carrots but they had plenty. Standard dressings plus a Spicy Cilantro Ranch that was awesome! Also, lots of yummy toppings; sunflower seeds, craisins, goldfish, etc. My husband started at the pasta bar because that's his fav. There must have been at least 8 pasta options and 6 sauces. He got Roasted Red Pepper sauce over spinach linguine and it was delicious! The sauce seemed a little thick when I just looked at it in the pan but on the pasta it was great because the thickness helped it really stay on the pasta instead of just going all to the bottom of the dish. Finally we both had pizza. The selection was great but if they don't have your fav just tell them and they will make a Customer Request. You'll get half of the pizza delivered to your table. My husband really likes this feature a lot. The pizza itself was really good, they're were enough toppings and a nice crust. One way I judge a good pizza is if you can hold up a slice by the crust and see if the slice can stand up on it's own or does it just flop down and hang there with the toppings sliding off. I hate floppy pizza but this isn't floppy at all. This really was the best pizza I've ever had at a pizza buffet. We aren't fans of dessert pizza but they had some good selections. We felt like we were yelling to each other the whole time. Several large groups were there when we got there but we didn't feel too crowded. Off to go help ourselves to everything. Salad bar, pizza bar, pasta bar and drinks. Salad bar- Mediocre but decent. You can make yourself a good salad though not a very extravagant one. No big deal though since we are here for the pizza. Pasta bar- You go up to the employee behind the pasta bar and tell them which pasta you want. There are about seven or eight choices including spinach fettuccini. They scoop it up, boil it for a few seconds and hand it to you. You take it and go to the pasta sauce bar. The alfredo sauce was by far the best as anyone could see since it was low all the time. I must say I really liked the carbonara! The rest were...o.k. Pizza bar- You have your pizza that's been sitting under the heat lamp too long. You have your pizza that is a crowd favorite and is always gone. Then you have your just sort of average pizza. This is more like filler pizza. You want to fill up on pizza so you eat a lot of filler pizza. Not bad pizza. Not great pizza. But enough pizza to fill you up. Dessert pizzas- I admit I did not have any dessert pizza. I wish pizza chains would get that after you ate tons of regular pizza, more pizza with a sweet twist does not sound appetizing. One of my kids had one slice of the oreo cookie one. We were all so full by that time, however, eating another slice of pizza, dessert or not, just didn't sound good. I don't think that we will be back. It was an experience. I'm glad we did it once.
