Sizzler used to be a favorite and a go-to for a quick & delicious steak dinner. The favorite was always the Steak and Malibu chicken. That's what we were hoping for when we visited last night. Everything seemed mostly the same, but something was missing. The nostalgia was strong going in, but overall it didn't hit like it used to. The prices seemed quite a bit higher but the food quality or cuts of steak didn't improve with the price hike. My steak was just 'okay' and my malibu chicken seemed a bit tough. Their mustard dipping sauce that comes with it was on point and brought back memories. Baked potato was tiny and was okay as well. Wife got the sirloin and her steak was thicker and juicier than what came with mine. Service was great however. Our server was quick to bring out our toast and drinks and was always around refilling water and asking if we needed anything. The manager also said hello. Overall an okay dinner, but just not the same as it used to be. I'm sure this is true for most classic steakhouses that have been around for awhile. If you are craving steak and malibu chicken and a bit of nostalgia, head to Sizzler. I think there are only a few left... Layton and a couple around SLC. :-) read more

Food was good. Was pretty dirty. Was pretty shocked to find a receipt under my shrimp. We had a great waitress. Another waitress was constantly eating. Seriously. Preparing the food and eating it. Touching her mouth and then the food. It was the one that had her hair waxed to her head and a bun. Huge fake eyelashes. A tattoo sleeve on her right arm and tattoos on her chest. A gold chain and ring hanging from her nose. When I got up to get ice cream, more waitresses-not ours-were with this one I mentioned previously eating behind the sewing machine. Seriously, if you have time to stand there and eat, you have time to wipe down the dirty counters or vacuum the floor. I can't see this location staying in business too much longer. Very confused why this establishment is still in business. First the girl where we ordered seemed super annoyed that we hadn't eaten here before and had questions about how it worked and the menu. I took two bites of my salad and was so nervous to keep eating it. Something tasted off and I didn't want to get sick. The salad bar was dirty. The ice cream area was so messy I didn't want to touch anything there. I ordered the giant shrimp.. it was not giant and it was breaded. They need to specify it will be breaded. My husband ordered the snow crab platter. It came freezing cold and he said something didn't taste right about them. Guess we just shouldn't order sea food. We popped in last night to order a gift card for my husband's coworker who loves Sizzler. I just can't get over the smell. As soon as you walk in and make your way closer to the register, you get punched in the face with the worst smell. The smell coming from the bathrooms is so bad! Never disappointed! I love the salad and dessert bar. The bread that is served is always a favorite.

My 6 year old grandson & I got norovirus from eating the steak, baked potato and the only is transferred thru feces which means the cook did not wash hands. We have had violent vomiting, explosive diarrhea, dry heaves, stomach cramps and unable to keep anything down. I won't give them any business again. Ive had to miss work, he has missed school, and the pain and suffering we have endured was definately not worth the steak and potato! Hadn't been to Sizzler for several years! Wife and I decided to go and we're surprised to see they'd remodeled it! I had the senior sirloin (rare) and salad bar, my wife had the sirloin steak (medium) and jumbo shrimp with salad bar! Steaks were cooked to perfection! Salad bar was absolutely Awesome (especially the imitation crab salad), and the vegetable beef soup was hearty and filled with meat and vegetables! Overall, an amazing experience! I haven't eaten at a Sizzler for many years but it was a favorite at my house when I was growing up. My husband suggested we go there, and give it a try. It wasn't too busy so the line moved quickly. This location was popular with the over 60 crowd when we were there. The service at the ordering counter and at the table was excellent. Responsive, friendly, helpful, and attentive. The manager even stopped by our table a couple times to see that we were happy. I ordered the Malibu Chicken with mashed sweet potatoes which was just as good as I remembered. Even though the chicken is a frozen breaded patty, the ham and swiss cheese on top with yummy mustard sauce makes this a must have comfort food. My husband had the Teriyaki Steak which he said was ok, but he's very particular about his steaks. The rolls with honey butter were very good and hard to stop eating. They also offered the Texas toast which my husband likes. The dessert/ice cream bar came with every meal which was a pleasant surprise. The decor was surprisingly kept up very well and they had flat screen tv's mounted around the dining room which was new to me. We sat at a table because the booths were all taken, and my chair was a bit rickety. Overall, I enjoyed the visit and will likely return in the future. read more

So disappointed with Sizzler this time around. My mom and Grandma go there every week, and I've joined them on occasion, and it's always been really good, even though my favorite pasta salad on the salad bar (giant shells with tuna has started to taste a bit tinny lately) which is why I'm not sinking to the 1 star level, even though I'm seriously angry right now. My mom was kind enough to pick up a to-go order for me...steak and Malibu chicken with a loaded baked potato. Yet this is what I got: steak, a grilled piece of dry chicken with nothing on it, a plain baked potato, and three little cups of 1- sour cream, 2-butter, and 3-teriyaki sauce. I could have done all of this at home. I literally just pulled ham and cheese and green onions out of my fridge to try to emulate what I was supposed to be enjoying here. Had to mix my own mayo/mustard sauce, and because I didn't have Swiss for the true Malibu chicken experience, had to use cheddar. I'm not one to complain on Yelp, if you look at my reviews most of them are positive, but I just spent an hour of my life trying to recreate a dish that should have been ready already, and it makes me angry that my mom paid for things she didn't get. Edit: after eating my "doctored" food...the potato was cooked well, but that's all I can say. I order my steak medium, this is beyond well-done, and the chicken is like eating wallpaper paste. First time back to sizzler in 30 years. We had a great experience and our server Amber was good. Their jumbo shrimp was very good and salad bar was fresh and fully stocked, my 10 oz steak was tough on one side and tender on the other side, our server replaced it with no problem, the second one was much better, oh and their sweet potato waffle fries are awesome. Atmosphere is very comfortable with nice mood lighting for dining and the music was 80' and 90's popular. Not a bad place to go by any means, and certainly just the way I had always remembered it. If you go to the sizzler I would always recommend to jump in on their salad bar. This way you can try a little bit of everything and you don't have to wait for your food to come out, it's immediately there and available. There were a few items that they were out of stock on, however very quickly they got the items back out nice and hot and we enjoyed our stay at the sizzler. Sizzler is a unique place, food can be "good" and prices reasonable if you are prepared. When I go to Sizzler I am not expecting to get the best steak on earth or an amazing meal, I am hoping to get a good meal at a reasonable price. I prepare by seeking out the latest coupons, usually, for steak and Malibu chicken and I am prepared to turn down all upsell efforts. They will be trying to sell you a drink, add a salad bar, upgrade your sides, upsize or add something to your steak etc. all of which could raise the price to the point of unreasonable for what you are about to get. Not sure why I like the Steak and Malibu Chicken, I think it is a nostalgia thing, kinda like Sizzler itself. Sizzler was always my mothers "fancy" place for special occasions so I went often when I was younger. Then I stayed away for decades and rediscovered it recently. The default steak that comes with the meal is small (4oz) and not high quality (sirloin). They occasionally serve me a perfectly cooked tender steak, more often than not it is only acceptably cooked and tender. The Malibu chicken is crazy low quality, a frozen pressed chicken patty with a piece of ham and swiss on it, but it hits a comfort food sweet spot for me. I think part of the reason is the sauce, even though it seems to be a simple mayo and mustard mixture. All that said, why do I go to sizzler? I can get a good meal with steak and chicken, baked potato, endless rolls and/or texas toast and a dessert bar for about eight bucks with a coupon. We used to frequently eat at Sizzler in Layton, but we went today for my son's birthday and I can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences dining out. I ate literally 10 bites of my salad and my stomach started turning so badly that I had to run to the restroom and hurl!! My body was telling me something was bad. My son's broccoli was so old it was yellowing, the crab salad smelled awful. They have done away with half of the salad bar offerings, doubled prices, and no longer have the delicious rolls and cinnamon butter! I don't think we will be returning. The line to order was slow, the salad bar was either under stocked or items were brown and wilting, half of our party only received their steaks after asking several times and then comp'p and to go. Our steaks (ordered med-rare) were a step below we'll-done and just warm when they arrived. I might have sent them back, but this place has a healthy "we might spit in your food" vibe that I wasn't willing to test. If you're here already, best of luck. Came here for lunch with my wife. It's a pretty good place to eat when you get their specials with salad bar. We had the shrimp special. Always a busy place and always has pretty good wait staff. The thing about Sizzler is they market everything extra with a price. If you do the add on's and extras a $9.99 special will balloon into a $15.99 meal for one. So that reasonable lunch goes into a dinner price range real fast. read more

Traveling through and stopped overnight at Layton. First time back in a Sizzler for at least 20+ years, same old decor and theme. It is like time stood still, at least for me, since the manager wanted to check my ID for the beer. I flashed my AARP card but he probably didn't think it was funny. Onto the food, good sized portion but fatty as hell for the rib eye. I would not recommend. The fries are good and salad bar have good selection and kept cold. Service was good but the floor can use some attention for a family restaurant. I probably don't need a Sizzler fix for another 20 years. read more

Went for a Mother- Daughter lunch date. My 9 year old & I walked into a huge line. During the 25 minute wait line, my daughter is excited to be at a steak house where they must know how to make a really yummy hamburger. I place my order of a 6 pc grilled shrimp platter & was informed they no longer make that.... even though it's on the menu. Oh well.... my daughter orders her kids meals hamburger. And I order the 10 pc grilled shrimp platter. We find a table & waited. And waited....and waited. During this wait we notice the broken lamp covers & dirty salt shakers. Food arrives- my daughter & I are taken back at how gross the food is. Her hamburger is just a burger & bun and the smallest corner piece of watermelon we've ever seen. My grilled shrimp platter was BREADED shrimp. I didn't send back since we waited over an hour already. My daughter had to track down a waitress since no one was checking on us to grab some ketchup & mustard for her burger. We learned that lettuce, pickles, and cheese all cost extra. ‍ When I asked her about my daughters kids meal dessert item (which was advertised on the wall menu) she had no clue what that was so she couldn't give it to her. I have gone to sizzler for many years and the food has always been good. Tonight I went in and my steak could barely be chewed. My waitress was nice and was happy to get me a new one. After a long wait, the manager came back with my steak and tossed it on the table. She demanded that I cut it in front of her and it still was hard to cut and chew. She rudely said, "Well, that's the best you're gonna get". I promptly left the restaurant disappointed that I had just paid $16 for a horrible meal that I didn't even eat. March 30th I came into this wreck. Places my 4 orders and paid. We couldn't find a clean table in the place. I find one around the corner where others are sitting in the same area. Waited 35 minutes and no bread and no food. I finally see a young african american boy who is waiting on some tables about 3 tables away. He looks at me and I waved to him, he turns around and walks away. The hell with this. I get me family up and go to the front and ask for a manager while my family goes to the vehicle. Bud the managers comes to me and I tell him I want my money back and I'm leaving. He says oh no, I said yes my family is outside waiting for me. He says what's going on, I explained this situation to him. I point out that my food is sitting in the window where not a single waiter tried to find its owners. He says that the area I was sitting in was closed. Told him there was nothing posted to that affect. Plus there was people sitting all around us. Not to mention I can't find any other clean table in the filth hole. While I'm talking to him waiters are coming up saying they need a manager. The young boy that I waived at says loudly, "this place is just falling apart." I laughed and this older gentleman walked up to us and asked Bud are you the manager? He says yes, he shakes his hand and says I just wanted to congratulate you on running such a shit show. Listened to the people seated behind us repeatedly complain to the waitress about their food quality and having to wait for 45 minutes for it to show up. Glad we just had the salad bar. The 3 of us ordered water with our meals and we waited for......... oh that's right, it never showed up. I assume there're management issues at this location. I so wanted to give them 3 stars; they were so nice. But alas, the actual food was SO BAD! My wife's steak was as hard as their brownies, the tortilla and the taco salad shell were not very fresh (the tortilla was a bit hard, and the shell was a bit soft.) The rolls were the best part by far, but they weren't served with butter, they were served with a very sweet cinnamon butter. The worst part is that the entire salad bar and desert bar, (and self serve sodas) looked like a disaster area. I know we were there a little later at night (830ish), but you would have thought they just wrapped up with a fourth grade field trip. Yes, seriously messy. Ok now for the good part. We. casually mentioned that my wife's steak wasn't very good. The server asked what he could do to make it better, and we told him it wouldn't be necessary to do anything for us, and that we weren't upset at all, just underwhelmed. Within five minutes the manager was at our table with cash in hand, refunding my wife's meal, and giving us ten extra gift certificate bucks for next time. We thanked him for his gesture and that was that. Bottom line: service was three to three and a half stars, good customer relations was five stars, but food was unfortunately one or one and a half stars. I'm the end the food just wasn't good, and as nice as they were it still doesn't help with that. I might go back and try them one more time with my "free bucks", but it won't be soon. read more

Service here can be hit or miss :/ but I love sizzler in general and love when we get coupons to use. Love the salad bar/hot wings. Steaks are usually a bit dry but it's kind of the norm as I like mines well done. I like to come here during weekdays when it's less crowded. read more
