Very good mango desserts! We visited Hui Lau Shan specifically since our mutual friend recommended us to visit this mango specialty dessert shop. So what we tried: 1. Pomelo & Mango with Sago. This drink is so refreshing! I didn't regret order this drink at all. The mango and pomelo really complement each other. Pomelo can taste really bitter if you just eat it by itself, but the mango kill the bitterness so the end result wouldn't taste overly sweet thanks to the pomelo. 2. Mango Delightful Trio I believe this trio consists of black sweeten rice/black glutinous rice and mango chunks combined with sweet coconut milk. Another winning dessert menu for me, apparently black glutinous rice goes really well with coconut milk. This dessert is also popular in Indonesia since they also use the same two ingredients, black rice and coconut milk. What I love from them is they use nice and ripe mangoes, not old too ripe mangoes, you know the ones when they're just sitting too long in the counter. So, they key is they use high quality premium mangoes. I hope they will never change this culture since this is what makes people go to their store. I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time since it opened. I'm always about trying new places. I came here and everything was self-service, touch to order. The employees were still next to the register/ordering system. Didn't think they were very nice or friendly. I didn't realized I had to order on the system and she told me - go order there. She didn't try and sell me anything or explain what was good. It just was a very mediocre experience. And for that type of mediocre experience, things are pretty pricey!! I ordered the combination which was around $26 bucks which had A4, C1, C4, and D3 16 oz. To me $26 for those 4 (not huge in size) is pretty steep. Was it good? I first had these mango yumminess in Hong Kong a couple of years back, and I was sooooo glad to see the sign for this place in the Bay Area. A little taste of HK without the long flight! I looove Hui Lau Shan and I was surprised to find one opened in Berkeley on this side of the world! This was the perfect refreshing drink/dessert for a hot humid day in HK and I was super happy to find that it tastes the same!! Mango Chewy Ball was so yummy! It comes with the mango slush, mango ice cream, mango bits, and chewy balls. We ate it right away in the car and probably devoured it in 5 min! The chewy ball is basically like mochi or boba but my SO who doesn't prefer boba really enjoyed the chewy balls! For my drink, I went with Mango & Coconut Juice with Crystal Jelly and after one sip, it brought me back to HK!! It tastes so good and refreshing! The Mango & Coconut with Sago had a bit too much sago on the bottom so it seemed better to eat than drink. if you are a big fan of MANGO, then this spot is a must try. The drinks are not too sweet and just the right amount of mango flavor. I have been here only one time and I would be lying if i said that i do not think about this place when my mango cravings hit. i have had the mango aloe drink and it is super refreshing! I want to say that though they call it "aloe" it really translates to pandan. When you have mango, pandan and coconut together, then you know it is a win win situation. the fall back on my end is that i would have to cross the bay bridge for this treat. The mango purée was good, not too sweet. The coconut icy in the delight was refreshing. The taro rice (?) i initially thought was red beans but the rice was super good. Since it opened a few years ago, a pretty standard place for Berkeley students to grab dessert at. Relatively small interior, but it never gets busy enough to where you won't be able to find seating. I've been here several times, and have never been surprised not disappointed. It's a sweet dessert with standard Asian toppings, lots of mango, and not much else too it. Perhaps a little expensive given what it is, but not bad every once in a while. Last time I went, I definitely felt slightly allergic to the mango (tingly tongue, etc), and I'm not normally allergic to mango. I think this is one of the few places in Berkeley unaffected by COVID. I mean who doesn't love dessert shops?! And not to mention Hong Kong's most famous dessert shop. **fyi: it is mango-centric, so if you don't care for mangoes (high in antioxidants+sugar), this is probs not the place for you** experience. Why do I think it's resistant to COVID? It had such a small space that there wasn't much space for seating/socializing anyway. It didn't matter whether you ordered to-go and ate it elsewhere, especially if it were a drink. And I lived 5 minutes away so when I took it home, I even stored it in the fridge and the drink consistency held up nicely when I decided to have it about an hour later. I think if anything, the mangoes soaked up the juices really well. I've been here twice and both times, I was impressed by my orders. Both items were college-budget friendly. Not to mention service was attentive and there was a self-serve kiosk (card only) with plexiglass in front of it separating you from the work staff. desserts! The first time, I ordered the mango chewy ball (6.50). On the next visit, I ordered the mango+mango jelly in mango juice (4.95). Both popular items. I decided for my first visits, I would play it safe trying the popular items. I knew that I would enjoy the mango chewy ball because it reminded me of meet fresh, in terms of some of the contents (mainly the chewiness). The Mrs. and I have been going here ever since we moved back up to the bay in 2020. I can't believe I haven't written a review yet! The Mrs. was never a fan of sago before this, but this drink converted her. She still enjoys her occasional Boba though, as that's more her flavor. And yes, I know the D3 Is the same thing WITH pomelo. Yes, I do like Pomelo, and yes, I do think the pomelo version is enhanced with those extra bits of pomelo adding some flavor and texture. However, it costs almost an extra $2! ($1.80 to be exact). For $2 I could buy an ENTIRE POMELO at the right Asian market. That's also a price increase of 30% just for those extra fruit bits. Though I like them, I just don't think they're worth it. That's just my opinion, and to each their own. Just something to consider. The D4, to us, is the most bang for your buck and the most sustainable option for financial planning reasons. The F3 is essentially the bowl version of the D3 with a scoop of mango ice cream. It's nice when you really want to savor and enjoy it slowly. The drink versions suit is better because we're always in a hurry with the Little One's hectic schedule. Tip: order online for store pickup. This is my favorite drink place! I'm always in search of the best pomelo mango sago drinks and it is hands down here at Hui Lau Shan! I didn't realize they opened a location in Cupertino until recently. This reminds me of their Hong Kong locations I've been to almost two decades ago. As I mentioned, my go-to is the pomelo and mango sago. Sago are tiny clear tapioca balls... a fraction of the size of "boba". This drink is my favorite! You can taste the sweet ripe fresh mango. It is balanced by the slightly sour tiny pomelo pulp. The best combination! I'm glad I ordered two last time! I also try their coconut and mago sago drink too as well as their aloe and aloe jelly with watermelon juice drink. The coconut drink was good too but wasn't as good as the pomelo one. Don't let the long line deter you from stopping by. They have a very efficient and good ordering system. You're handed a pager and receipt after ordering. For my 5 drinks last time, the wait was about 7 minutes... The sample items in the glass display case are small only a subset of their entire menu. From the back of the line, the fill menu behind the counter may be hard to read... or maybe it's my old age catching up with me. Regardless, I recommend looking over the menu pics on Yelp beforehand. This is most definitely one of my favorite places to grab dessert in Berkeley. The store doesn't look like much from the outside, but the handmade mango desserts are amazing. When you walk in, you order directly on a kiosk without much interaction with the servers, so I think they only take card. Service is generally really fast and most times I've come there isn't really a line. Even if there is a line, it moves very quickly. Nowadays, since Hui Lau Shan is available on so many apps, I just order on Snackpass with some friends for a nice discount. My absolute favorite here is the A1, which is a gigantic mix of a mango puree, mango sorbet, mango slices, chewy balls, and mango pudding. I don't like the chewy balls as much since they stick to my teeth too much, so usually I give them to whoever comes along with me. The fresh mango slice topping can be a bit sour during the winter time, but overall the mango puree always tastes sweet, but not overpowering. In addition to the A1, I've also had the A5 coconut noodles, A7 crystal jelly, and A4 chewy balls from the handmade mango menu which I absolutely love. Adding to the mango craze, the mango mochi here is good as well. While it's, soft and chewy it doesn't really stick to your teeth. The mochis are covered in coconut flakes giving it an extra bit of flavor. I've also had the mango pudding on its own before but I'd probably prefer it in the A1 dessert. Sometimes the mango pudding feels too firm and overcooked. I probably look like a mango fanatic now, but don't worry I've also tried some other options here that aren't mango. My other favorite here is the new-ish coconut pudding dessert which came out fall/winter 2021. You can get this in a whole coconut or a reusable plastic cup. I really like how they are often served in reusable cups. Because so many of their mango desserts come in standard sizes, I wish they would make reusable cups we could bring back for better sustainability. I feel so bad using so much plastic every time I come here. The coconut puddings come in three different toppings (mango, watermelon, and black glutinous rice), but only the mango and crystal boba topping is available for the whole coconut. The watermelon topping is very refreshing and the black glutinous rice perfectly compliments the coconut. The rice option can be a bit heavy though. As for the mango topping option, you really can't go wrong with it since mango is basically Hui Lau Shan's specialty. Because I love the handmade mango desserts and coconut puddings so much, I haven't actually ventured out to try some of the other drinks and desserts. Yay! We were absolutely excited to find this existed in Berkeley via Yelp! Having tried it in Southern California and numerous times in Hong Kong, I was so excited to see it pop up when searching for desserts in Berkeley! On a Saturday night, unfortunately (but fortunate for me! ;) ) there was no one in line. Covid really gave them an impact with no students being around. However you can clearly see people were still ordering for delivery orders. The store is small and clean with modern accents. You order and pay through a tablet. Menu has a variety of drinks and desserts, primarily focused around mango! Yum! Who don't love mango?! The order was so quick and came out less than five minutes once we ordered! The girl at the cashier was very helpful and nice! We tried the dragonfruit drink - pretty and refreshing! Not too sweet and tasted very dragonfruit like! The mango with sticky rice and coconut dessert was delicious! The Durian crepe was so yummy if you like durian! Two green thin crepes filled with fluffy cream and Durian. Prices can be seen as a little pricey but quality and taste are definitely there! Can't wait to come back! read more

Love the decor. It's a cozy small spot but has so much yummy desserts. I want to try every thing but I end up getting the new item. Taro/mochi dessert( black sticky rice and sago on the bottom covered with taro /mochi paste and mochi balls) 5/5 Will definitely come back to to try the other desserts. read more
