First time at Hui Lau Shan since it opened! We came for the 4 drink deal for $22 dollars! When we arrived at 4pm on a Saturday, the line was slightly out the door and the wait to order and get everything took about 25-30 mins. The ambiance inside was nice, it looked like very modern and had quite a few tables to sit, but would not recommend bringing a big party inside. It seems like there was a one stall bathroom inside as well We got the D4, mango and coconut juice with sago and the D7, mango and coconut juice with crystal jelly. The drinks overall were super good and refreshing. The drinks weren't too sweet and you can really taste the real mango flavor which is nice. When the drinks overall mixes it has a nice creamy coconut mango taste which is not too overpowering on the mango nor coconut flavor. The sago was nicely cooked, with every sip, you do get a good chunk of sago. It is in the softer side where you don't really need to chew. The crystal jelly had more of a bite than the sago and are kinda cut like crystal jelly noodle strands but are not chewy. Overall a nice refreshing drink. This place gets busy since it's newer. But they seem to move quickly, so you're not waiting long to order or get your food. Pros: love their mango desserts, especially their mango mochi. Been here so many times already since they've opened and every single time regardless of the timing the customer service has been amazing!! One time I even came in really close to closing and their customer service was SO good. They apologized for the "wait" even though it was quick and it was my fault for coming in so close to closing. Good Customer service is pretty rare nowadays so that itself deserves 5 stars. The menu itself is like any of their other locations but I definitely taste the freshness here and consistency. Mango Sago Pomelo (side of chewy balls) Highlights: Fresh tasting mangoes and pomelo pieces with just the right amount of sweetness. I was so excited when I heard that this Hong Kong dessert chain was coming to Elk Grove. We got there at 7:45 pm on a weeknight and waited about 20 minutes. The staff is hustling and got the desserts and drinks out pretty fast. Hui Lau Shan specializes in mango desserts and drinks. We ordered the mango chewy ball, mango sago, mango pancake, and mango mochi. My favorite was the mango chewy ball because of its variety - it contains glutinous rice balls, mango puree, mango icy, fresh mango, and mango pudding. The mango sago was good but was more simple and plain. The mango pancake was interesting. The outside wrapping was kind of similar to a crepe but with a different texture. It had whipped cream and mango inside. The miss for me was the mango mochi. The mango inside of it tasted a bit artificial. I would get the mango sago or mango chewy ball again. Mango galore! The line is long, but does go by fast. Now that they open from 2-9pm, I will definitely take advantage of their new hours and come during off hours to avoid the crowd. The mango chewy balls weren't very chewy and was actually pretty hard. The mango ice cream was icy. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be mango ice cream, but if would taste better if it was blended more finely or smoother. I usually don't like the mango mochi because of the coconut flakes but it was pretty soft and delicious. I ordered the A2- Mango Romance to get a taste of everything. I stopped by Hui Lau Shan after doing a quick search on Yelp and seeing this was a Hot and New spot in the area. I wasn't prepared for how popular they would be though. When I arrived there was a long line, but luckily it wasn't out the door (yet). I love that they had ice water outside for people who may be waiting longer, and that they had display versions of the desserts so you can see what the options look like before purchasing. While I was waiting I did a little people watching to see what others were ordering, all the tables were filled and everyone seemed to be hapily enjoying their treats. By the time I got to the front of the line I wanted everything, but ended up ordering the Passionfruit Mango Icy ($8.25), Mango Pudding ($5), Mango Chewy Ball ($7.95), Mango Pancake ($7.95), and Mango Mochi ($10.75). When I told the staff I'd be driving back up to Sacramento (during rush hour) they even added ice to one of the insulated bags to make sure things stayed cold. Once I got home I tried everything! Passionfruit Mango Icy: This was probably the most surprising of the desserts. The mango taste was the most prominent, and while there were definitely passion fruit seeds from fresh passionfruit the flavor was a bit overshadowed. I did get a few sips though that definitely had more of the passion fruit flavor. There were also chewy pieces at the bottom of the drink. I'm not sure what it was but they added texture and were really nice as part of the drink. Overall, even without a strong passion fruit taste, it was very good and I would absolutely order it again. Mango Pudding: This was a nice thick pudding and was less sweet and had chunks of fresh mango in it. Great if you want a bit less sweetness. It was also nice and creamy. Mango Chewy Ball: This one is probably best enjoyed at the restaurant. It was tasty and the balls added texture. It was also refreshing and a bit sweeter. Mango Pancake: This was my favorite. My only "con" was that it was quite warm even inside the store. On the way to the restroom, I noticed the thermostat was at 80 degrees. Saw Hui Lau Shan had opened their EG location and was super excited to try it! I came a bit after 8PM on a Wednesday and the line was way out the door to the corner of the businesses, so I decided to attempt another visit the next day. Fortunately I got lucky the next day, the first day they changed their opening hour from 5PM to 2PM, so maybe that was why I got lucky with a total wait time of about 10-15 minutes a bit after 4:30PM. Normally, I like to get taro items, but since their menu is mainly mango-based, I stuck with this and ordered the following: Mango Mochi ($10.75), Mango & Coconut Sago ($6.50, Drink), Mango Sago ($7.95), and Red Dragon Fruit Icy ($8.75). It's rare I like every single item I get from any place, but I actually enjoyed each thing I ordered. My favorite item was the Mango & Coconut Sago drink. (I'm partial to coconut items though.) I'm not sure why the Mango Sago is more for less quantity; I can only assume less additives in this item, as it did seem less sweet. I did get a complimentary bag with my $30 purchase on Thursday, July 30th. (Not sure if they've run out by now.) They also have a cute bag they package your items in. Super close to me, so I look over into the parking lot anytime I'm driving by...I think the line inside the door must have been a fluke since I've seen a line every other time, even in the 100+ degree heat. Heard really good things about Hui Lau Shan, so after several attempts of scoping out the place after they opened their doors I was lucky enough to get in line when it wasn't too crazy, but I still waited about 30 minutes before I was able to place my order. Hopefully they'll offer online ordering at some point because I don't think the lines will be slowing down anytime soon. The shop is also relatively small inside. Once I placed my order, everything came out in less than 10 minutes. They also give you a free tote with orders over $30. I ended up spending a little over $50, and everything was packed in a cute little lunch bag tote. FOOD REVIEW Mango Mochi - 3.8/5 My kid enjoyed it, but I wasn't a fan of the coconut flakes coating. Been long awaiting this to come to eg ever since trying it in the bay. Most of the time waiting is in line once you order it's done pretty quickly. The taste is pretty similar to the bay locations but the quality still needs some work. In my 2 boxes of mango mochi I had several that were ripped with holes at the top. The chewy balls in the mango chewy ball need to be cooked a little bit longer some were still hard. I think the mango puree in the drinks and desserts here are a bit too smooth as well. First of all, I want to mentioned that I grew up with Hui Lau Shan in Hong Kong. When i first had them, they were still a Chinese herbal tea place before they evolved into a mango dessert place is the early 90s. I am glad we're getting some locations in the US and more specifically Elk Grove! We went on a weekday afternoon, right when they opened at 2 pm. The wait was about 20 minutes, so it wasnt bad. The last time I had Hui Lau Shan was 1999 in Hong Kong. The mango sago dessert was so good that I still remember it today. You can understand my excitement when I found out they are opening Hui Lau Shan in Elk Grove! I usually avoid soft opening and rather wait until the hype dies down to try something new but I have to make an exception here! I put on my big girl pants and prepare to stand on line today, Saturday (3rd day of soft opening) with cold water and handheld fan! It was in the 90s today. The line was not too bad and moves pretty quick with staff outside handing out menu and directing. It's also helpful that they have like 7-8 staff at the counter getting orders out and god knows how many more staff working the kitchen. Also, some of the items are made in advance like the coconut jelly, mango pudding and mango pancakes. That helps speed up the process quite a bit. C8: Coconut Jelly with Mango - 10/10 Must order! This reminds me of Melo Melo but better! The coconut jelly is a pudding with springy texture and subtle sweetness. I wish there was more fresh mango on top. I can do without the glutinous rice balls but I know some people love this. It's served in a cute jar with a lid that can be reusable. They also have different toppings too. D4: Mango & Coconut with Sago - 10/10 This drink has a ton of mango and perfect sweetness. These 3 ingredients just goes so well together. It's very filling and half of it is in my fridge for enjoyment tomorrow. Perfect drink for a hot day. C1: Mango Mochi - 9/10 It comes in 6 and they are mini. You can eat it in one bite. Good mango mochi ratio in each one. C4: Mango Pancake - 7/10 It's good but if you compare with all these other delicious mango items. It is being overshadow. This is the new hype! There have been many times where I've driven past Hui Lau Shan and saw that there was a large line and so I've avoided it. This time around, we saw that there was actually not a line out the door (albeit briefly), so we decided to check it out. For context, we were here on a Wednesday afternoon just before 4 pm. There was plenty of parking outside. Inside, there were a good amount of tables for how small the shop is. The shop was clean and well-lit. They have models of their menu items towards the front of the shop. They have little crown symbols next to their popular items. The cashier was very helpful in providing her recommendations and was very friendly. We opted for the following: -Mango chewy ball: This had a crown symbol. I thought this was ok. The chewy ball was a dense chewy ball. It especially does not keep well in the refrigerator FYI (I did not save it for myself, it was for my family). Despite eating it just shortly after receiving the order, the chewy ball was quite chewy in consistency already. I don't think I would order this again because it was so chewy and didn't really have any flavor to it. I think it was sort of a missed opportunity where they could have added mango flavoring, but maybe that's overkill? It really was just a texture addition. I would have also rather the chewy balls be sago instead of a tasteless dense chewy thing. Other than that, it had a scoop of some mango puree or something that was lighter in color than the rest of the mango puree that was beneath all the toppings. The mango puree was refreshing, and not too sweet. There was also fresh mango pieces. -Mango and coconut with sago: This was more of a dessert drink. Basically there was mango puree, sago, and a lot of coconut milk. I think I would have rather there be a little less coconut milk and more of the mango puree. Overall, this was a solid choice. -Durian pancake (2 pieces): This was similar to other places where I've had this. It's made with a crepe wrapping durian pieces and whipped cream. It had a generous amount of durian, and this was a nice, light dessert. My family really enjoyed this! Overall, we waited for about 10 minutes, but the line grew very quickly, out the door after us. I was so excited to see that Hui Lau Shan finally came to my area! One of my favorite dessert places. After years of only being able to have it in the Bay Area! Here it is! When the sign first came up, I was driving and I couldn't believe it! Took over a previous business in this small plaza. Parking can be difficult to find but there's more parking in the back! I was also one of the VIP experience winners for finding their mango plushie friend and got to try a few of their popular items. They were all SO DELICIOUS and refreshing. My top favorites were probably the coconut jelly with mango (c8), then the pomelo & mango with sago (j3) and the mango chewy ball (a4). I also really enjoyed the aloe and aloe jelly in watermelon juice it was so refreshing. The mango crisps were also a highlight! Almost like a cream puff that was cold but refreshing. The mango & coconut juice (d7) with crystal jelly was also a hit! That one was really good too l. It's such a great place for dessert. The manager/owner is also super welcoming and friendly. It's a little small compared to the other locations in the bay that I've been but inside is really nice and white and has that clean new feeling. I'm happy that they were able to work out the kinks and when I went they were super efficient. We lined up at 1:45pm, door opened at 2pm. I got to the cashier at 2:15 and my order came out by 2:23. I've heard about this dessert spot going viral at Elk Grove so I decided to stop by with a friend. The line was pretty long but they provided free water for customers that were waiting in line outside. We waited around 10-15 mins in line before it was our turn to order. So I ended up ordering the Mango Pudding, Mango Swirl, and the Red Dragonfruit Mango Icy. Mango Pudding - 8/10 I honestly forgot to put the coconut cream on the pudding but besides that, me and friend both rated it an 8 since it has a nice gelatinous texture with actual mango chucks in it so you can really taste the freshness of the fruit in the pudding. However, it wasn't too mind-blowing. I later tried it with the coconut cream and it definitely tasted a bit better but I would still give it the same rating since it didn't change the flavor of the pudding that much. Mango Swirl - 7.9/10 (8/10 for my friend) My friend got this drink and it honestly tastes really good since you can definitely taste the mangos which compliments well with the milk or cream that they used. Also, they put in mango chunks in it which gives a very nice texture. Red Dragonfruit Mango Icy - 7.7/10 (8/10 for my friend) I got this drink and it wasn't the best since the red dragonfruit was like the only flavor that I tasted even after I mixed it well enough to get more of the mango flavor. They also put mango chucks in it which gave an additional texture to the drink since it was an icy but otherwise I wouldn't get this drink again since I was kind of disappointed by the red dragonfruit overpowering the whole drink. My friend also tried it and felt the same way about it. Although the fruits were definitely fresh and didn't taste unripe or rotten at all. Overall, the staff was very kind and efficient with fulfilling the orders since it only took like a couple minutes for them to finish our order. Also, the place was very clean and had some seating but it's pretty cramped due to an influx of customers. Their line moves quick! I love their D4, mango coconut sago drink and their mango coconut noodle dessert. Also their durian pancake is yummy. It's a tight space and pretty crowded inside but that's a given because they're sooo busy and people are waiting on their orders. They're quick with service as well. read more

We went here on a Wednesday night around 7:30pm and we didn't have to wait too long in line. It took maybe 10-15 mins to order our desserts. Once we ordered it took about 5 mins to get it. The mango crystal jelly was good. It was refreshing since it's been so hot. I tried the mango mochi and it was good but I'm not a fan of the coconut flakes. My friend also got a mango pudding and a mango passion fruit drink but has yet to try them. We will come back when we're in the area. We like that once you walk in they have a sample of the desserts so you can see what you want to order. read more

I'm so glad this place opened in Elk Grove. Now i don't have to go all the way to the Bay Area to get mango dessert. The mango coconut with sago is so yummy. It is not too sweet and the sago has a the perfect consistency. The mango mochi is so good too. A little expensive with it being $10.75 but the mango inside of it is so sweet. The line was around 30 minutes but hopefully it will dile down. Once you actually place the order, the order comes out so quick! And it was nice to get a free bag when you spend over 30 dollars read more
