Sauteed Cumin Beef. $29. Chunkier than normal but well flavored. Solid
    Glenn C.

Note: Rating is for the area. Would be a 4 outside of there as it's still excellent with good quality throughout virtually all the dishes. I was at this Szechuan/Sichuan restaurant a while ago with a group as the host was going around to a couple different places and trying dishes for a reunion dinner. The staff was friendly and the food was overall very tasty being much better than expected and a whole lot better than the other Szechuan spots I've been to in the surrounding area. We soon got the Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles/Dan Dan Mian for $9.99 which were very tasty. There was a good amount of pork compared to most places, the noodles had a good chew to them, and the chili oil had both good fragrance and a kick but not too much. This was an excellent version of this dish and I would recommend it heavily. We also got some Soup Dumplings With Pork/Xiao Long Bao which came with six for $11 which I usually would not order in a Szechuan spot but these were pretty good. The meat inside was pretty flavorful and the soup had a bit of saltiness but not overly so, and they were nice and plump. The only real complaint is that the skin was a bit thick but overall, they were good and better than expected. The main reason we were here was to try their Peking Duck which is served in two ways and is either $38 for half or $76 for a whole. The first way was roasted which you find in other places and it was very solid. The meat was tender and well flavored and the skin was crispy. It wasn't as good as Golden Wuish or Jiang Nan but it was solid. The second way was in a duck soup which was lightly flavored with some goji berries and surprisingly large pieces of duck. I usually prefer the second course for this dish being salt and pepper duck bones but it's hard to complain when the portion of the soup was quite large and it is included within the pricing of said Peking duck. The Sauteed Cumin Beef for $29 was also very solid. The beef was a bit chunkier compared to normal where I usually find the pieces to be a bit thinner which added a different texture compared to normal and there was plenty of cumin. The chili flavor might have been slightly light though our host might have adjusted this. Another tasty beef dish was the Beef With Mushrooms for $25 from the house specials menu. The beef was a bit less tender but had plenty of pepper flavor and the mushrooms had a good flavor and texture. I would recommend this as well. For our Dry Pot/Mala Xiang Guo, we went with the Chicken for $21 which is the cheapest option which comes with potatoes, lotus root, onions and mushrooms. She had lowered the spice level which the restaurant definitely followed as the flavor was a tad light (which is not their fault then.) The meat was good as was the veggies and I wouldn't mind going back and getting the Dry Pot Fish Filet at normal spice. Speaking of Fish Filets, the Fish Filet With Black Pepper Sauce for $20 which came with bell peppers & onions was tasty. The sauce was flavorful and clung to the tender fish as per the other black pepper sauce with this one having a bit more corn starch likely. My least favorite meat option was the Ginger & Scallion Fish for $20 with bok choy. The portion was decent but the fish was bland but this was partially expected unfortunately. Rounding out the dishes were a few vegetarian ones. The best and a highlight in general was the Home Style Tofu for $17 which came with some vegetables in a brown sauce. The tofu had a fun texture with a firmness but also some chewiness and was cooked down nicely. The Baby Eggplant With Spicy Garlic Sauce for $17 was also solid with plenty of pieces of soft eggplant. Rounding out the dishes was the Dry Sauteed String Beans for $17 which were properly blistered and excellent as per virtually everything else. We ended the meal with Glutinous Rice Cakes With Brown Sugar which came with 4 pieces for $12. The brown sugar inside was molten and slightly sweet while the rice cakes were very lightly fried with a pleasant chewy texture. This was again tasty. I felt like I was a broken record throughout this review as I didn't have many complaints. Even for the better Szechuan spots, there's usually one or two dishes that aren't that good but for this place, the only dishes I disliked was not because they weren't prepared properly but rather the lighter expected flavors. Mid 4 for the quality throughout the meal even if there's spots in the city you can go to for better versions of some of the dishes. Would go back.

Had the beef noodle soup it was amazing. The service was excellent. Highly recommend this place

    Dry Pot Fish

Fast, efficient and flavorful. Staff were kind and everything came out super quick. Prices were reasonable and portions fair. I really enjoyed their Fish Dry Hot! Lots of numbing and flavors coupled with the fried fish made for a delicious entree.

    Lychee martini and appetizers

I came here with my co workers for a staff dinner and everything was amazing and cooked to perfection. It was my first time having some of the foods and it was delicious. The lychee martini was great not too sweet. We shared everything family style and it was more than enough. Would definitely come back again!

    Wonton soup

We tried a variety of dishes including the crystal shrimp dumplings, soups, shredded spicy chicken (cold), mapo tofu, and eggplant with garlic sauce. All the dishes tasted great. I was surprised how good the dumplings were. The spice level is off the charts! If they say it's spicy, believe it! The service was unobtrusive. They didn't rush us. The restaurant atmosphere is casual and dark. This is a reasonably priced spot for lunch; if I'm in the area, I will go back.

$20 for their Kung Pao. No onions and peppers thank God. Little bit of wokhei. Only issue was the sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking and too thick and there was far too much sichuan peppercorns and not enough chilis for me (my mouth was numb for like an hour after) with that said that this is a lot closer to how this dish is supposed to be. Definitely worth it.

    Fragrant Boiled Fish-

A very authentic sichuan restaurant, with great service! I ordered the Dan Dan noodle and the boiled fish filet. Both were very good, and the noodle was a very nice surprise, definitely recommend it! I did have to ask them to lower their spice level one notch though.

Take-out Review Only I ordered via Grubhub and the order was ready within 10minutes! I thought that the soup dumplings were amazing in terms of the flavor, softness of the meat, and amount of soup. The filling inside falls apart and is not congealed, which tells me it's a fresh dumpling. I think the skin could be a little thinner. I also ordered the Beef w/ organic mushroom & black pepper. Every single cut of the beef was *extremely* tender and well seasoned. The mushrooms were fresh and the sauce was just right. I will definitely be ordering from here again!

Seriously, I ordered from this place so frequently that I still can't believe the staff was this rude about the wrong item delivered. I placed an order online and selected hot and sour soup for the two lunch special sets. After waiting for an hour, my order was still not delivered, so I called the restaurant and checked in. I was told there was a technical issue and orders placed via yelp were not received by the kitchen. After another 20 to 25 mins, finally the order was delivered, but they gave me the wrong soup. I called the restaurant again, the staff answering my call literally acted like there was nothing he could do and he could only refund $2. When I asked to speak with the manager, he said manager was not there, and when I asked what his name was, he straight HUNG UP on me. I dialed back again and nobody answered the call. I dialed the third time and it went straight to the voice message saying no voicemail is set up. Is avoiding problem the way you handled the issues? WHAT A SHAME!

Chicken and broccoli, Sesame Chicken, Soup Dumpling(6pcs)-, Edamame spicy, Fried Vegtable Spring Rolls(2pcs)-
    Oliver L.

If you are looking for great take out Chinese in the UES, look no further. My wife and I ordered in the wonton soup, soup dumplings, vegetable spring rolls, spicy edamame, sesame chicken, and chicken with broccoli. The soup was very good, not too salty. Springs rolls were great. It was our first time trying soup dumplings and they were very good. The chicken for both dishes were very tender white meat. The sesame chicken was lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. The sauce for the chicken and broccoli was delicious. Our only negative was that the spicy edamame was too spicy to where it was inedible. Overall a great spot in the area! We're excited to eat at the restaurant next time.

Came here with two other friends for dinner and we pigged out. We started off with Scallion Pancake with Shredded Duck ($15), which tasted amazing. The pancake was flaky and not overly soaked in oil, while the duck meat enhanced the taste. I think everything should order this for the table. We also got the Dan Dan Noodles w Minced Pork ($8), which is a staple dish in Sichuan cuisine. Make sure you stir the bowl to mix the sauce and minced pork. For veggies, we got the Sautéed Green Beans With Eggplant ($18), which tasted great. I usually get sautéed pea shoots for a veggie dish, but this was worth ordering as the eggplant tasted great along with the green beans. For entrees, we got the Spicy Green Pepper Fish Filet ($28 for filet). A classic Cantonese dish that comes with bok choy, so it turns out I didn't really need to order a veggie dish. Delicious. We also tried the OOHU Mao Xue Wang ($34), which may be one of the most spiciest dish available on the menu. This dish combines blood curd from a duck, tripe, and chicken gizzards along with other organs into a simmered broth containing chilis and peppercorns. It's the first time I had a scallion pancake that wasn't just straight dough inside/outside, or so thin that it got crisped out. I really liked this texture profile though. The eggplant was 10/10; the eggplant was cooked well, so tender but not soggy. The sauce was really good too such that it was sufficient spice but not flaming. Would recommended. I enjoyed the cucumber salad and tofu as well, but have had better.
