I found this place on Yelp and was looking forward to trying it. Stopped in for dinner. The interior was clean and ambiance nice. There was only one table occupied and one person waiting for take out. I ordered a young chow fried rice around 16 dollars, pork lo mein around 16 dollars and a pot of tea for 5 dollars. The pork lo mein was greasy with large pieces of boneless pork that looked like spare ribs. The pieces had a lot of fat and the meat wasn't freshly prepared. There was less than one button mushroom, a few pieces of green onion and a tiny bit of carrot and cabbage - essentially no vegetables. The fried rice was horrible. Mushy rice with slight burnt taste from frying. Very old grey dry out pieces of char siu pork, cubed ham, peas and carrots and at least two jumbo shrimp were visible. I sent this dish back. The tea was not good - suppose it was inferior quality and old. Should have not gotten tea. I had a small cup only. I had previously ordered char siu baos to go for 7.50. These were edible. The char siu sauce was a bit on the strong side and there were a bit of inedible pieces of pork in each bao...however they were better than the two dishes I ordered. read more

This platter offers 9 different pieces that have shrimp, chicken, duck, beef, mushroom, egg custard, sesame, and more! Each bite was unique, full of flavor, and very fresh. One of the pieces had pork in it (shrimp with pork shumai), and they were able to swap it out for a regular shrimp shumai which I appreciated as a non-pork eater. The Seafood Pan-Fried Noodles didn't really hit the spot for me. The seafood was decent but the pan-fried noodles definitely needed a bit more of the sauce from the seafood to properly eat it (unless you prefer the crispy noodles). It was six friends and myself who met at Dimsum Garden, we were all pretty hungry. The inside is small, but they had a large table, to fit our large group. We first started with a pot of Chrysanthemum tea. I'm not sure how authentic this tea was, but it wasn't super flavorful. We got so much food, I don't have pictures of most of it, nor do I know what some of it was called. We had soup dumplings, sesame balls, crispy shrimp rolls, Turnip cake, spinach and chive dumplings, just to name a few. My favorite might have been the sesame balls, with red bean. These were both sweet and savory, so soft and chewy. I enjoyed the Turnip cake, this is best with oyster sauce. The shrimp rolls were crispy, crunchy and delightful. We had a nice lunch here recently. Since the weather was chilly I was in a soup mood and ordered their wonton soup with noodles. This big bowl was very satisfying to me. My wife ordered one of their lunch specials...chicken with eggplant, brown rice, hot & sour soup, and a spring roll. It was too much for her to finish so I was obliged to help her out. This place is relatively new I believe. I've been here twice now and they did not disappoint. It's also a nice addition to the area as I don't think there are too many other dim sum places that are close. It's isn't too big but probably a dozen or so tables. It can get busy too. They have dim sum as well as "regular" dishes as well. There's a menu where you can check off the dim sum items you want which makes it easy because there are pictures as well. I went with some dim sum and some regular dishes as well. Everything we had was delicious. The dim sum was really good. The service was good too. Accommodating and very nice. Making the trip down to Manhattan Chinatown or trekking to Flushing for some dim sum requires planning and a time commitment, so when a Dim Sum Garden opened in Midtown East, it was a welcome addition to the neighborhood. It is more expensive given the location, but it is worth the convenience. They have some unique, less common items like truffle mushroom dumplings, pea shoots with scallop dumplings, or duck spring rolls, and the decor inside the restaurant is modern and clean. I had been there once before and had a decent experience, however my most recent experience last week left an extremely sour taste in my mouth. My mom and I grabbed dim sum on a beautiful Sunday around noon and were seated right away. There were many open tables, but they quickly filled with parties after us. We immediately put in our order and built up quite an appetite as we waited. We ordered 4 dishes, two of which were steamed. Before we knew it, a half hour had passed and we had not been served a single dish. We checked in with the waiter, and he responded saying it's coming out soon, so we continued to wait patiently, trying to silence our growling stomachs with ice water. We then noticed other tables that were seated after us received dishes before us, so we checked in again. The waiter said that they don't have enough space on their steamers but it'll come out soon. Our first dish came out 45 minutes after we seated. It was a fried shrimp in bean curd dish ... that does not require steaming. We waited another 10 minutes for our next dish. And 10 mins after that did we get our final 2 dishes. While the food was tasty, they really need to work out their service issues and efficiency. Now if that wasn't bad enough, I had given a tip that was reflective of the service I received. It was not a pre-calculated option that you often see at the bottom of receipts where you can just check a box. I manually wrote in my own tip as I often like to make my total a round number ending in 00 or 50 if I can help it. I kept my customer receipt and checked my credit card statement and noticed that they added onto my tip and charged me more. Thank god I still had my receipt as proof to dispute it with my credit card! It is extremely unethical and illegal for them to charge me an amount other than what I wrote in my receipt, and you can be sure I will not be returning. For any of you looking to go, beware! Be sure you keep your receipts and make sure your credit card statement is accurate. Shady! read more

Came on a weekend with a friend to try out this new dimsum place in midtown east. I'm glad I did, it was a delicious time! I'm so glad to have a little variety of Chinese food around this area, and happy to support a friendly new business in their soft opening, they've impressed me. Food: Delicious! The menu is expansive, doesn't have all the types of dim sum I usually like but enough choices for me to get a lot of my authentic favorites! Xiaolongbao (the soup dumplings) and the turnip cake (lo bak go) are great, and come with delicious sauces for dipping. There are some very cool modern spins on some of the flavors, including the custard bun (nai wong bao) but with a cool black bun and rich flavor and a truffle mushroom dumpling. Highly recommend! Ambiance: Clean and fresh, the decorations look great. It was pretty busy already despite only being open for a short time, I think that it will only get busier and we'd have to think about making reservations. Service: Great! Very enjoyable, a great option for midtown east dim sum, in particular if you are solo as their 9 piece combination platter allows one to sample a wide variety of offerings alone. Also, the combination platter is a healthy breakfast alone, I would not suggest ordering more if you are alone, though I'd like to try some different options on my next visit. The first time we had Dim Sum Garden we did takeout. Everything we ordered, the dim dum and the main dishes, was excellent. So when cousins were visiting and wanted to go there for dinner, we were enthusiastic! Not so much, after we went, sadly. When we sat down, we were given one dim sum menu for all 4 of us, and one regular menu. We asked for another of each. You check a box or put a number in that box, next to what you want from the paper dim sum menu. We combined our dim sum and soup,choices and also checked off the seafood chow fun on the same paper. When we ordered all that plus the chicken with black bean sauce, we asked for brown rice. One of the dim sum we'd had the first time were the steamed duck dumplings, and they were delicious, with small but definite chunks of poultry inside. We ordered them yesterday and we were so disappointed. If there was any duck meat inside, it was tiny pieces like chopped meat and you didn't taste duck at all. The shrimp har kow, on the other hand, were full of shrimp, perfectly cooked and very good! So, uneven at best in terms of the food. We had other dumplings as well, which were good, not overwhelmingly excellent. The hot and sour soup was excellent! The chicken with black bean sauce was very good also, but we got white rice instead of the brown we had asked for. As for the seafood chow fun, we waited, and waited, and waited some more. Finally one of my cousins caught one of the servers and mentioned that we had also checked off the seafood chow fun on our order. He mumbled something, never said sorry nor told us it was coming, so we sat there not quite sure what to do! Finally, it was brought to the table, about 15 or 20 minutes after we'd finished everything else. The main dishes we had were very tasty and most of the dim sum were good. Ambiance (5/5): They just opened recently and loved the inside décor! It was clean, not loud, and plenty of space between the tables. Service (5/5): Our party of 3 was the first to arrive on a Sunday. The menu is printed with descriptions and pictures to help with ordering. You mark on the paper menu which items you want. The number of staff members definitely exceeded the number of parties dining which meant that we were serviced frequently. Food (3/5): Overall, the dishes were artistically plated but the flavors lacked authenticity. The atypical translucent dumplings were made out of a glutinous skin rather than the usual flour. The table chili oil was delicious! By order from best to worst: Sticky rice in lotus: they wrapped the lotus leaf within an outer paper so that when handling, your hands remain clean! This extra step isn't usually taken at other establishment which gives it a kudos! This was my favorite as it had Chinese sausage, nuts, and other stuff inside it. Short ribs: Great seasoning and flavors; be aware that the cut of meat as lots of fatty meat surrounding it Steamed pork ribs: plated with a small bed of pumpkin to appear like there's more than there is. Good flavor and tender pieces of meat. Soup dumpling: The soup itself is good but both the skin and meat is such a letdown in texture. I would not recommend getting this! Roasted duck dumpling: very little duck meat on the inside as there was mostly like carrots. Again not Siu Mai: there is a full piece of shrimp atop the siu mai (usually it's small chunks throughout so more generous) Black truffle dumpling: There's a strong truffle taste but it was the lack of stuffing and skin that made me dislike it. The bill came out to around $60 which is more expensive than if you dined in Chinatown or Flushing. We left pretty stuffed but the taste did not meet my expectations. read more
