Dined here for dinner on our first full day in Kauai. We made reservations about a month in advance, which I would advise you do, as they stay busy. We were seated at our reservation time. We didn't have a great view from our table, as we were tucked away in the uppermost section, but we had glimpses of the gardens, which were beautiful. I enjoyed the ice cold beer and fresh fish for my meal. Overall it was a good experience and I would go back again. read more

Make a reservation at least a week in advance, Hukilau Lanai is popular! Before the entree prices freak you out, keep in soup or salad is included! This might be the last vintage, classic, old school restaurant that still does this in Kauai, maybe all of Hawaii, or the whole world? Prices were about $15ish dollars cheaper 11 years ago, but that's life! $37 Bottle of White Wine...I can't remember the brand, but it was cold, crisp, fruity, refershing, and less than $40! There are also a couple other choices under $40 as well. $43 Hukilau Mixed Grill...three different grilled fishes: ono, marlin, mahi? Each seasoned differently, each grilled perfectly, juicy, tender, flakey, and delicious! Don't let the "Thai curry" scare you...it's a mellowly spiced golden sauce, that is not spicy, but packed with flavor. For the soup, I paid the $3 upgrade to get the Lobster bisque...creamy, flavorful, but no chunks of lobsters. $43 Mahi Mahi...the wife let me have a tiny bite...tender, flavorful, and delicious! $13 Macadamia Nut Tart...think of this as the Hawaiian version of Pecan Pie, lovely! I've been eating here for about 15 years now. It's my go to for special occasions and my birthday every year. It's also my "I need a good filet mignon" place. As well as my molten lava cake fix. The steak and cake is my go to. No place on island does a better filet mignon. I've had friends take me to other restaurants but they always fall short. It's always tender and flavored perfectly and cannot be beat. Same with the cake. There's no place on island with a more perfect molten lava chocolate cake. It's made to order and comes out hot and gooey in a way that you can only achieve fresh from the oven by a professional. In all the years I've gone, I have never been disappointed. Not once. The food is perfect every single time. The lobster bisque is perfection and you can tell the chefs take pride in their daily specials. It's not whatever needs to be cooked or tossed. It's a tangible dreamscape. The staff is wonderful and almost always a familiar face. Which speaks volumes on an island where the turnover rate is higher than the humidity. The original table we were sat at was perfectly fine but we wanted something a little bit different and they were happy to accommodate us. The cocktails are much unique flavors. My salad and meatloaf. Main was filling and tasty and what I wanted. My partner had the fish with pineapple, chutney, and coconut sambal rice. The restaurant is in a resort. Dinner at Hukilau Lanai was one of our favorite meals of the trip. The restaurant is conveniently located in a hotel right next to the Coconut Marketplace in Kapa'a, which also happened to be right next to our hotel so we easily walked right over. The view from the restaurant is quite stunning, with gorgeous gardens on the grounds of the hotel overlooking the ocean. Service was attentive, warm, and professional. The food was fantastic. We both enjoyed bowls of creamy lobster curry bisque to start. The Hukilau mixed grill featured mahi mahi, cajun-rubbed nairagi (striped marlin), and shoyu-marinated walu (escolar/butterfish) served with orzo, Thai chili coconut sauce, and pineapple relish. What an exquisite way to sample several local fish! Hukilau Lanai is consistently one of the fine dining spots on Kauai that I often see recommended by others, and it's easy to see why. This is a lovely restaurant located in a large resort. We requested a table out on the covered deck and it was the perfect setting for the fantastic dinner that followed. The salads and gazpacho we're wonderful. The fish was super fresh, perfectly prepared, and quite delicious. We splurged a bit and ordered a wonderful bottle of 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon which we wanted to last forever... For dessert the crème brûlée was amongst the very best we've ever had. Our server was wonderful... Always right there whenever we needed something while leaving us be to enjoy a wonderful romantic dinner, the warm tropical breeze, and the beautiful teki torch lit garden view. Usually we prefer small local dining spots but this place had such excellent reviews that we just had to try it. And we were glad that we did! read more

The okinawa sweet potatoes ravioli was the best among all the dish we had. sadly it only comes in 3 per dish! :P My hubby's meatloaf is probably the best meatloaf i have had (moist and flavourful even without much gravy). Everyone here was so nice and friendly. I got a reservation at the last minute. The food was delicious. I had the pork tenderloin medallions in Korean barbecue sauce. Super tender little heat, and purple, sweet potatoes. My husband had a special which included three grilled catch of the day. One was mahi-mahi the other was a striped marlin, and the last one was a butter fish. All three were super tender and delicious, seasoned to perfection. Entrées came with salad or soup. We chose the Wally salad, which was delicious with a mango vinaigrette. This is our first time here and if we ever come back to this beautiful island, we would definitely come back here. read more

Instead had the Filet with garlic mash and wine Demi glaze. Perfectly cooked medium rare, tender and moist. Honestly couldn't have asked for a better steak. We had a lovely dinner here our last night in Kauai. This restaurant is located inside of a hotel just FYI! We started off with the calamari as the appetizer. It was panko & furikake crusted strips flash fried and served with a lemon sambal aioli. Y'all this was the best calamari we've had. Tender, flavorful and that sambal aioli was delish. For our entrees, we both ended up getting specials for the evening. I got the seabass special and my hubby got the special that included 3 different types of fish so he could try them all. Each entree comes with a soup or salad and we both opted for a salad. Hubby got the Cesar salad and I got the Wally's salad. Both entrees and salads were good, but it was a good amount of food so you'll def leave full! We have been having dinner here for 12 years and have always had delicious food, which is enhanced by the incredible service. This time our server as Brianna and she was fantastic. I loved her personality, she diffused a difficult person, made us laugh and offered great service. In the past 12 years I always ordered the lobster bisque and Wally's salad in honor of a friend (which are so delicious), but tonight I had the Wally's Steak Crown Royal and it was fantastic. Others ordered the fish and were very happy with their meals. We make sure we come here several times a year because the food and service are always perfect. We had reservations at 7:00 pm tonight, a little later than we usually dine, but this restaurant is BUSY! We got there a little early, and the only downside to that is they have very little seating for those waiting. I had a Hawaiian 75 to drink and my hubby had a Mai tail. The Hawaiian 75 had a nice flavor and was strong. I started with the leek and mushroom tart because I had read good things about it, and those reviews were right on the money. It was excellent. The crust was crispy and delectable. I ate the whole thing because the hubby doesn't eat mushrooms. His loss. It was so good. I will remember it for a long time. The entrees come with a soup or salad of your choice. I chose the tomato pineapple gazpacho, delicious! It had just the right amount of spice and also acidity from the pineapple. The hubby had the green salad and seemed happy with it. I had the pork tenderloin with Okinawa sweet potato mash and was happy with my choice, the pork was so tender, the knife they provided with it wasn't necessary. Beautiful presentation too. My hubby had the pasta bolognese and he said it was the best pasta he had ever eaten. And he's eaten a lot of pasta! Too full for desert which is too bad because the selections looked amazing. Paul was our server and he was awesome. Checked in on us to see that our drinks and food was to our liking without being overbearing. The service did not feel rushed at all and everyone was so polite and friendly. If you are coming to the east side of Kuaui should should definitely come to the Hukilau Lanai. read more

We have tried several highly rated restaurants and more expensive in Kauai and this is by far the best quality, taste, fresh Hawaii inspired restaurant. We made reservations twice! We tasted PuPu's the Ahi Nachos, braised short ribs, mushroom tart so delicious!!! The meals include salad or soup. We tried all the salads, they were all local grown and fresh and the lobster bisque wow! The Opah fish and meatloaf from Kauai raised beef were excellent! Don't forget to order the Milton cake ahead of time a must! Loved the macadamia tart dessert...Can't wait to return!!!! read more

I didn't have any expectations coming to this place and surprisingly not too hungry. We got a few appetizers. They included Lobster and goat cheese wontons with guava plum sauce, Lobster Bisque, and Sweet potato ravioli with lemongrass cream. All very classy foods with great presentation.
