The good was gross! I really wanted to like this place but I have to be honest, so here goes.. my beef teriyaki was served cold and tasted like it had been precooked and sat around all day.. the food was bland with no flavor. The chicken Katsu was warmer but had no flavor.. my husband tried the sushi and was disappointed as well.. Like I said before I really wanted to like this place after my son told me he ordered some sushi there but was really let down instead. Okay this is our 3rd time eating at Hoku and it was so good I has to post a review. We got 6 rolls with a side of garlic edamame for 68 bucks..the Lion King was bomb..so fresh and delicious, good service in person and by phone, fast preparation. So glad this spot is in Cordelia. read more

Good food. Good prices. I frequent here for lunch. People need to realize this isn't a five star restaurant it's a Togo express food option. It's one step above fast food. & the staff is nice and it's clean. Teriyaki madness across the street sucks and is over priced and has rude staff. Have you ever looked at your food and got excited becuase it looked delicuous, and then you finally dive in to take a bite and it was not nearly as good as it looked! This is what happened here. The bowl looked amazing! Well, the veggies were not aldente, they were warm and raw. The tofu was mushy and the teriyaki sauce flavor is a bit off. I actually would prefer to go to the chain Teriyaki spot across the way. That is all and my bowl is still full of food and I am still hungry. read more

I can't decide which is my favorite?!?!! ...between the sushi and the teriyaki bowls ... and I'm not even a big fan of rice bowls . That's how good their teriyaki rice bowls are ... & they do not skimp on the sauce, At All ! I've been here twice since they've opened & have tried different things. Here's a few reasons why you should eat here. -The concept of "fast food" sushi is great. I'd rather eat sushi, rice and some type of marinated chicken over burgers and pizza any day. -The place is big enough to have a lunch or quick dinner or even a date. Now because it's a come & go kind of place they might not always be busy so it's perfect for a little sit down and chat. It's fairly quiet and the ambiance is chill enough to make you comfortable. -The sushi is good when I say good that means not the absolute best I've ever had, but good enough to quickly fulfill my sushi fix. -They have a cool and wide variety of different drinks + snacks -The miso soup is bomb. -Support new local businesses! I've tried 4 different rolls + 2 rice bowls. All great tasting and they don't over due it. I was skeptical to try "to go" sushi but they have won me over and now I really like going in, getting my l.o.l. roll in the case, and then I'm out the door. So convenient and the sushi is very good, and freshly made. If they keep their prices where they're at now then I will absolutely continue coming here on a regular basis. Went here. Ordered a California Roll and a Dragon Roll. Pretty good in taste but my Dragon Roll was falling apart a bit and the stuff in the middle didn't have much. $5.75 for the CA Roll and $8 for the Dragon Roll. For what I got, I don't think it's worth the price. read more

I've come here about 4 times since they opened and have always experienced really great service. Keep in mind this is a "FAST FOOD" version of sushi and Japanese food. I can't imagine why someone would compare it to a restaurant. Anyways for what it is, it is great and is a quick fix for my cravings since I always travel out of town for Japanese food. read more

I was really excited to see this place pop up in my area. We need the variety! I think they have a good concept, the menu selection seems decent and the staff seems friendly. I ordered a bowl of their ramen and a bowl of their udon... to go. I'm going to hope that had I ate my food in house it would have tasted a whole lot better. The noodles in both bowls were a little too gummy for my liking. The broth was basic. I felt they could have given me more. I thought at first they forgot my tempura only to be disappointed to find it floating in my soup soggy! For now, i'm not going to completely turn my nose up, i'm going to try them again just to give them another chance to prove me wrong. Stay tuned! read more

I had high hopes for this place. But I forgot... it's a sushi cafe... Mind you, I'm used to eating at Hinata which is THE best, in my opinion. I was pressed for time so I stopped into this place. Pressed for time... well, that was a mistake... these guys took fooorrrrrreeeeeverr!! And for what? I don't know... they're just recently opened so maybe they're at Jurassic Park and the meat is eating the trainers, I don't know. When I get my bento, which I paid almost as much as Hinata's I get meat that's been cookign for a million years because itw as like having jerky, just about... no flavour except for whatever weird sauce they put on for Teriyaki. Store bought sauce from Safeway, maybe? I don't know, but the sushi sure tasted like it was from Safeway or some of those truck stop gas station sushi's. I didn't get sick but it wasn't the greatest either. The salad was just cabbage with some carrot shreds and NO dressing of any kind. The wasabi was OK and they gave me purple cabbage which I guess was supposed to be their version of pickled ginger. They do have some cute Japanese snacks and stuff so there is novelty...unfortunately, their custard bun DID make me sick so that sucked. The moshi was OK but that didn't get me sick so that's good. The overpriced ramunen soda was also good. All in all, I ain't going back. Novelty or not. I think the concept is good but the execution is not the best. I wasted 20 bucks but that's the last they're getting from me. Save yourself the money and go buy safeway sushi, it'll probably be better. read more

So happy after my visit here today I knew I had to immediately get on Yelp and sing the praises! I ordered the Angry Bird roll (thanks to the yelp review recommendations) and the L.O.L roll. Both were so good!! I was almost a little teary when I finished them because it's been so long since I've had good sushi like that! The quality for the price can't be beat. I'm honestly a little upset I that I didn't find this place sooner. I've spent far more money on some vastly inferior rolls from some other local places. Aside from the food, the place looked very clean, you can order online for pick-up to reduce contact, and there was BTS music video playing when I came in, what's not to love! Passing by, randomly stopped to fill up and here is sushi teriyaki to go. Read the reviews, decided it's better than the fast food chains in the proximity. Surprisingly delicious. Order the Cordelia and angry bird. The Cordelia was, again, delicious. Both rolls hit the spot. Know that if you come, the 50% off of rolls is a gimmick. Everything has been seriously marked up, but what you end up with is market price rolls that are solid. Might stop in on the way back from my RT. To management: maybe it's time to start a new page. The food is pretty good and service is great. The only complain I have is that 50% off sushi "sale". Seems a lil gimmicky coz they starts at 20.00 and say with the 50% off now it 9.99 lol. Found this place through Yelp, since we were in the area. I ordered the sashimi combo and I wasn't disappointed. The slices weren't fishy at all and the portions were very nice. First time having the walu and it was surprisingly soft and mild. My combo came with rice and miso soup and I was very happy with my meal. Went there today to get my usual and came home to find out it wasn't what l ordered. Called the place and told the lady and she kept saying sorry she thought l wanted the other one. I told her what l wanted and she knew what l order. I asked if l can come and get what l wanted but she said l would have to pay for it. Decent place for the location. A nice, fresher option in the plethora of fast food joints surrounding the area. Beef bento box is $11. Comes w 6 pieces of Cali rolls, beef teriyaki over a bed of rice, cold "steamed" veggies, and 2 chicken potstickers. $11 is a reasonable price for the amount of food you receive. I was pretty full, but just not satisfied with the taste and quality. Teriyaki sauce tasted a bit cheap and while the beef was warm- it didnt taste fresh. It was a bit chewy.
