There once was a time where Humble House was one of my favorite restaurants in Metro Atlanta. Not that many years ago, all of the Sichuan restaurants were great. You had the sit-down places like Hot Space Atlanta, Masterpiece, and Sichuan House. Then you had the food court places like Chong Qing Hot Pot and Humble House. During its prime, Humble House provided almost unmatched value. I once would put the dishes here on par with Masterpiece. Favorites of mine to order include the Cumin Lamb and Dry Pot Pork Intestine. Today, Humble House has taken this food court idea a little too far. While ticket times are much quicker than before, the food appears to no longer be freshly prepared. Food that once tasted great now merely tastes good. How disappointing. What once was one of my favorite spots, Humble House is now merely yet another perfectly serviceable option for food. read more

Humble House is one of the hidden gems in Duluth, tucked inside the Great Wall Supermarket food court. If you enjoy authentic Sichuan cuisine, this place delivers bold flavors, generous portions, and dishes that taste like they were made for people who appreciate real Chinese cooking. On our visit, we ordered the Fish Fillet & Beef In Hot Spicy Sauce with SoyBean Sprouts & Sichuan Pepper, Boiled Fish Fillet in Soy Sauce, Mouth-Watering Chicken in Cold Spicy Sauce W/Ground Peanuts, Pork Belly Slices W/ Preserved Vegetables and Spicy Noodles with Ground Pork and Peanuts, along with rice to soak up every last bit of sauce. The Spicy Boiled Fish and Beef was the star of the meal. The large bowl arrived covered with fragrant chili oil, dried chilies, and Sichuan spices. The fish and beef were incredibly tender and silky, while the broth delivered layers of heat, aroma, and numbing spice without overwhelming the flavor of the fish. Every bite was rich, comforting, and deeply satisfying. In contrast, the Boiled Fish Fillet in Soy Sauce showcased the kitchen's finesse with more delicate flavors. The fish was exceptionally fresh, flaky, and perfectly cooked, served in a light soy-based sauce with scallions and greens. It allowed the natural sweetness of the fish to shine and provided a wonderful balance to the spicier dishes on the table. The Chicken in Cold Spicy Sauce with Ground Peanuts was another standout. The chicken was moist and tender, dressed with fragrant chili oil, garlic, cilantro, and crunchy toppings that added texture and freshness. It was refreshing yet packed with flavor and made for an excellent appetizer. We enjoyed it with steamed rice. The Braised Pork Belly was beautifully prepared, with alternating layers of meat and fat that practically melted in your mouth. The rich soy-based braising sauce was savory with a touch of sweetness, making it the perfect companion to a bowl of steamed rice. The Spicy Noodles with Ground Pork and Peanuts were simple but incredibly addictive. The chewy noodles, savory minced pork, roasted peanuts, and fresh greens created a perfect combination of textures and flavors. Once mixed together, every bite delivered a satisfying balance of richness, crunch, and subtle heat. What impressed me most about Humble House was the authenticity of the food. The flavors are bold and unapologetically traditional, the portions are generous, and each dish feels thoughtfully prepared. The setting is casual since it's located inside the supermarket food court. If you're looking for authentic Sichuan and Chinese comfort food in Duluth, Humble House is absolutely worth a visit. Located in the GreatWall supermarket food court. I stopped by for a quick lunch and got their Spicy Szechuan Chicken. I only waited 7-8 minutes and it was somewhat busy. Good portion (~approx. for 2 ppl) for $15 and the auntie who took my order was so sweet. It's sliced very small but it's very crispy, seasoned well (maybe a tad salty), and a healthy amount of spice. It could've been spicier for me personally. I think people who can't eat extremely spicy but craving some heat can enjoy it. I would come back to try their other menu items! read more

This place is located in the food court inside of Great Wall grocery store. Unfortunately smells like hella fish since the fish cutting area of the market is nearby :( I honestly hate when I have to give a low rating. I ordered the: Garlic eggplant: this was tasty but way too oily. There was pools of oil as I went through the dish and tried to eat it with rice. I gave up after a while because the oils used won't be too healthy in large amounts like that. Kung Pao Chicken: this was a let down but probably would have been better fresh at the restaurant versus to go to be fair. It was soggy and I hated the chicken cuts it was too fatty for me Customer service was really nice. I can't say that I'd rush to eat here again and it just wasn't up to hype for me. read more

One of my favorite restaurants to eat at in Duluth for Chinese food! Everything I've tried is a solid 10/10 and some of the best Chinese food I've had, especially given the price point. I've had their green beans (must-get), their dry pot, their stir-fried intestines, and eggplant fish clay pot. All of which there were no complaints and only exclaims at how yummy the food was! I don't have any pictures because my friends and I literally shovel the food into our mouths every time. Everything is seasoned and flavored well and pretty good portion size. They also make everything super fast so you usually won't have to wait more than 10 mins for your order to be ready. All that to say, come try their food and you will not he disappointed! Pro-tip: Ask for their chili oil which they make in-house. Otherwise, I also like grabbing some chili oil from Ping's Place right next door. read more

I've been to Humble House a couple times and they have all been pleasant. The food is really good and definitely worth to go if you like Chinese food. The area is inside the Great Wall grocery store so the atmosphere isn't all that but there is usually space which is good in the food area. I will say most of my luck the tables have been dirty as a warning but not at the fault of the restaurant as they are not responsible to clean the tables. The service was pleasant not the best but definitely decent there is a language barrier sometimes which isn't the easiest but I have always got the right order so no complaints just not a place that goes above and beyond if that makes sense. I have tried a couple thing but my favorite is definitely the dry hot pot. There are just so many different options in it and the seasoning is terrific. It is really spicy for those that can't handle spice well I do not recommend then. The cumin lamb is definitely flavorful just not my favorite but that is because I prefer szechuan over cumin. If you like cumin I definitely recommend the lamb or the beef you can really taste the cumin. The wait isn't very long mostly just waiting for them to cook should be around max 10 min. The portions are pretty good it could be one plate for 2. It even tastes good as leftovers! I will be coming back because the food is so good. read more

We've eaten in this food court several times, but it's always been at the Best BBQ place at the end. This time, we thought we'd try Humble House * which took over from one of the preceding (failed?) business. We ordered the noodle soup with beef tendon and the House Specialty fried rice. I'm afraid that, when it comes to the food, I'll be channeling Churchill to say that they have much to be humble about. There was not enough tendons, the noodles did not taste like homemade, and the soup was more chicken-based than beef- (and not that good). The fried rice was somewhat better, but it relied too much on deep-frying for richness and taste - all the shrimps, chicken etc. were first deep-fried or slightly-battered and then fried before mixing with the rice. Not sure if their other dishes might be better perhaps just ordering dishes to eat with white rice reveals their 'best foot'? We're unlikely to get to the bottom of that mystery based on this experience. * IMO, "Humble House" is an inept translation based on the self-deprecating term used by Chinese to refer to one's home as (literally) 'cold abode' (as in, so modest that it's not heated, not as in 'unwelcoming') - it is the name of this place rendered in Chinese. But even with that knowledge, it's not really an appropriate moniker for a resto! It's supposed to conjure up home cooking and hospitality, except it doesn't. I've seen/visited my share of Chinese restos all over the world - have never seen this name used, for good reason. read more

Our favorite option in the GW food court. The staff is so nice and our food came quickly. We opted for the green beans without pork and the spicy chicken. The portions were huge and delicious. The entrees are also cheaper than a lot of the restaurants but they don't compromise on taste or portion size. The food was fresh and arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. After a decade of being a customer, we have decided to move on for good. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Saturday evening, and they had decided to close early to replace a fryer. Why would any business manager close during their busiest night by choice? I have replaced fryers, and it is not very time consuming or difficult. They could have even remained open with a limited menu. This is not the first time they have been closed early, or completely for who knows what reason (this has impacted our business in the past as we knew full well they are not dependable), but on this occasion, we were told the reason. We tried the Banh Mi joint across Pleasant Hill, and were blown away. Banh Mi DC is well worth a visit. JustGo has great options... Hunan Garden on Medlock BLOWS Humble out of the water. Their food is OK, but there is solid competition all around with as good better food at comparable prices. So you're sitting there right now reading this review, and you're thinking to yourself, "Which would I rather pursue right now: great sex, or the most delicious spicy hot pot in the history of humankind?" The answer is clear: go for the Humble House Spicy Hot Pot. Unlike every other Chinese restaurant ever, Humble House actually puts an authentic level of "Ma La"* spices in this sexy beast. Try not to get arrested making too many loud moaning sounds while savoring it (trust me -- I'm still out on bail). Suggestions: 1. Fold over a paper napkin on the table and then wet it with about a teaspoon of water. Place your Hot Pot on top of this so it doesn't slide and spin with every bite you take. 2. Get a spoon so you can every now and then scoop up some of those delicious bits of onion and potato coated with hot chili oil at the bottom of the Hot Pot. 3. Don't add a thing to this dish! Try a little of everything just as the chef gives it to you and you'll see that the chef knows exactly what he's doing and you don't have to add anything. 4. TIP THEM! Go up after you finish this treasure, thank them for a delicious meal, and drop a couple bucks into the tip jar. The decisions they make to elevate quality are not cheap. Quality ingredients and a truly competent chef are what set Humble House above all the rest, and they cost money. We all help subsidize these expensive decisions with tips. Inside the Great Wall Supermarket I had the spicy chilli chicken and it was very good. The portion was huge and I've got lunch for tomorrow. I asked for spicy and still had no problem with it. My wife was happy with her tofu dish and the kids liked their chicken fried rice. A neat place. Realize that they take an hour break everyday from 4-5. All these reviews of people complaining about service... I do have to agree that a lot of the places at Great Wall are all pretty much rude. But this place was better than the others... I don't know if that means that it's still bad but I felt for my experience Humble House was better than the other restaurants. Anyways, don't expect service to really be in the review, because that's that. You're in a food court, not a sit down restaurant so I think when it comes to service you're going to be disappointed on all fronts. So, I've had 2 dishes from here. I've had a really strong one (pork belly) and then a not so strong one (Taiwanese beef noodle soup). The pork belly was pretty good, it had nice flavor and it didn't disappoint. If you were wondering what type of pork belly it was... it was pork belly over mustard greens. You can't really tell that the mustards were bitter. Now, for the Taiwanese beef noodle soup, it was a little weak just because the flavor profile wasn't there and it didn't have that spice I was looking for. The soup was also a little lacking as I think it was a bit too watered down. So, if you're eying this dish, I would recommend to not get it and choose something else. Overall, it's a food court. You're not going to find the best meal ever, or you might. The menu is extensive and your chance of finding a good meal is high because of all the choices. If you don't like Humble House, go to another next time, or maybe you can taste test the same dish from each restaurant and see which one is the best! Decent asian food with good portions and incredibly quick service. Conveniently located inside the Great Wall Supermarket food court, Humble House makes for a quick place to grab food. I initially came here on a grocery trip, but ended up grabbing food at this place. It doesn't look like much, and while the fact that this restaurant is in a food court might turn you off initially, don't let that stop you from trying Humble House! We chose to get 5 dishes: spicy stirred fried pork liver, beef with onions, sesame chicken, dan dan noodles, and a big pan-fried dumpling with veggies inside (not sure what the English translation would be). All came in pretty large portions, and among the 4 of us, we were able to finish everything (albeit, a bit stuffed in the end). Our food came with 3 large bowls of rice, which we were not able to finish entirely. The only reason this place doesn't get a 4 star from me is because while the food was tasty, it really didn't taste all that different from other standard Chinese restaurants. What made this place stand out, however, was how incredibly *quick* the food came out. It might have been because the meat is sliced rather thinly (which doesn't really affect how it tastes in my opinion), but all of our dishes were out within 5-10 minutes of ordering, even at the rather busy time we were there. Compared to the other places in the food court, it seemed like Humble House had the most traffic, but that didn't seem to stop the speed of the service. The food court area is kept clean. I didn't see any workers clearing off the tables, but all of them looked clear of any leftover food/dishes and wiped clean. Humble House makes for a decent, quick meal. You can find Humble House at 2300 Pleasant Hill Rd, Duluth, GA 30096 in the Great Wall Supermarket about a block west of Satellite Blvd where it crosses Pleasant Hill Rd. I've written my last three reviews about three other business in this same food court (Best BBQ Cantonese Cuisine, Yummy Garden and Ping's Place) - you'll find Humble House in the middle of the row on the left along the entire wall Chinese food purveyors. As mentioned previously, I met with a group of friends for a lunch UYE at the Great Wall Supermarket hosted by Tuong Vi P (https://www.yelp.com/events/duluth-uye-lets-do-saturday-lunch-great-wall-supermarket) - basically about a dozen of us sampled various treats from one of about 5-6 restaurants in the food court. This food court specializes in authentic Chinese cuisine so you'll see variations of dumplings, saucy dishes, pork belly and Chinese BBQ. The Saturday was extremely busy with a full market and full food court - it took some time to gather together the many tables we needed and people kept coming to join our group. Humble House also has a detailed and huge menu of Sichuan options and much like the other places in this exceptional food court, is a counter-order business as you would expect from a food court. I did not order the food from Humble House, focusing on Best BBQ towards the end. I did manage to sample a few dishes from their menu (photos of items all along the back wall - actually all of these restaurants used this method to communicate). I liked the food from Humble House the best from all the options I tired, maybe because I was able to sample the largest number of dishes: Sesame Chicken - this seemed a bit out-of-place for this mall, more like what you would get at Panda Express than an authentic Chinese mall. It was less sickly sweet so maybe that's the lure - not something I normally would have ordered. Pork Belly - this was the star the show, accompanied with diced onion, garlic, leafy greens and rice. I'm not quite sure how this was cooked - it was fork tender and seemed sous vide? In any case, one of the best versions of pork in any fashion I've ever had. You can do much worse than order this dish. It's also more than enough to split between two people and at about $10-11 a sweet, sweet deal. Spicy Chicken - this was similar to the Chicken with Sichuan Pepper you find at other restaurants specializing in Sichuan food. It's always a good fallback if you're not sure what to order. They do a good job her (I've had better at Gu's) but for food court food it's good and very cheap. Cumin Beef - I don't know what it is about this dish but I really like it. The cumin provides a level of mouth-watering depth that makes you keep eating it even when your full. Delicious. String Beans with Ground Pork - if you guys remember the old Little Szechuan, this dish is the closest I've had to the stir fried string beans from that memorable restaurant (the new location and version of the food basically sucks). This dish with the Pork Belly made my day. Corn and Peas: now I'm not much a fan of corn so I only tried a bite. I had no real opinion of the dish - just seemed like a random veggie to have on a menu. In all Humble House was the best of the four food-court restaurants I tired. Humble House is the third food restaurant along the row of shops in the Great Wall food court. I'm unfortunately having trouble deciding on a 3 or 4 star rating. My family ordered two dishes from Humble House. One was a home run, while the other was an immediate strikeout. We ordered the stir fried chitterlings and the pickled vegetable pork belly. The chitterlings were on point. They were crispy and greasy and perfectly cooked. I couldn't stop eating them! As some people know, one of my favorite Chinese dishes is the pickled vegetable pork belly. The perfect proportion of salty and sour veggies to the salty and fatty pork belly needs to be exact or it won't be the same. The 梅菜 (sour vegetable) tasted pretty sour, but it reminded me of sour milk. It tasted like it had gone bad, not the proper pickled. They do accept major credit cards, which means they do charge sales tax. I do recommend you try the chitterlings if you're adventurous! My favorite dish at Great Wall food court to date. Humble House is a little-known gem serving up a mix of Northern Chinese cuisine. We came around 6:30pm on a Sunday night (but have come on weekend mornings as well) and ordered the pork liver (溜肝尖) and pork intestine (爆炒肥肠) dishes. The service was fast and friendly as usual but our dishes this time were a bit cold and underwhelming. The pork intestine missed the crunchy outer exterior and the flavor was a bit bland, while the pork liver lacked spice (having two pepper signs on the menu). Their portions are well-sized and we have always enjoyed this place inside the Great Wall food court after doing some shopping. Next time, we'll be sure to ask for some more spice! P.S. The supermarket is doing some renovations on the men's restrooms so they have port-a-potties outside (i.e. no lighting). If you need to go around later that day or need to wash your hands, you might want to go somewhere else to take care of business. read more

Anyone who remembers the ORIGINAL restaurant named LITTLE SZECHUAN on the northern stretch of Buford Highway with Chef Kong will know how Szechuan flavors meld together to create a unique culinary experience. Anyone remember the mind-bending shrimp egg fu yung??? But after Mr. Kong moved south of North Druid Hills Rd, everything changed. He finally sold, and the place went to the dogs. Now closed permanently. But now try HUMBLE HOUSE, with what I believe is the BEST and most original Szechuan cuisine in metro Atlanta. Period. The problem that I have is that I want EVERYTHING on the MENU. MUST HAVE: Eggplant in spicy garlic sauce, Spicy Fried Chicken with pepper & onions, stir fry green beans, kung pao chicken. That works out to about $44 for a couple, with enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Anybody who does not like this food simply has a problem with the location or the girls who work the counter. Folks, it's ALL ABOUT THE FOOD. Next time, I am determined to try MAPO TOFU and also go for the PORK BELLY. This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. The food is delicious, served quickly, and relatively cheap. If you're looking for a quick, yummy meal then this is a great stop. We've come here a couple of times and each time our stomachs are very happy. The food is easy to order because there are pictures associated with each item, and the prices are very fair...probably because you're in a food court and no one is serving you or cleaning up after you. Be classy and bring your tray back to them. What's nice is you can get some hot tea (or water) with your meal to wash down all that spiciness. Just go back to the counter and refill it whenever you run out. Tonight we ordered #13 (spicy pig intestine with lotus) and #33 (spicy fish pot), and they were both deliciously numb-your-mouth spicy. The dishes are each served with a bowl of white rice, which pairs really well. The pig intestines were slightly crunchy, which I really liked because it helped to null out some of that squishy fat texture inside (which can become repulsive if you eat too much). The fish was cooked really well. It was very smooth and melted in your mouth. There was also plenty of sauce to mix with your rice. And don't worry about missing out on your greens because there's bok choy at the bottom of the pot (that you can't see in the picture). While you're eating you can also watch TV. They have huge screens, and there are Chinese/English subtitles (since you can't hear what's going on). After you eat you can walk around or go grocery shopping to work off that meal because you most likely just ate too much again. So if you're looking to slum it a little and eat a good meal, then this place is perfect. read more

Humble House serves a great assortment of authentic Szechuan dishes. It's located in the center of the small food court inside Great Wall supermarket. It's more of a take-out, quick eat spot since there is quite a strong stench of seafood that seems to hover around the seating area. Pro-tip: Sit closer to the entrance/front of the supermarket. There are pictures and english descriptions, which are always helpful when you're not craving anything in particular. They also have hot tea, iced water, hot water options while you wait for your food. We had the: - Shredded green peppers with chicken ($8.95) - Flavors were there, BUT they used bell peppers (not spicy) instead of the traditional green chili peppers. It was good, but the lack of spice was disappointing as this is one of my favorite Szechuan dishes. - Szechuan dry pot with fried fish, shrimp, and beef ($12) - Also comes with an assortment of veggies such as diced onions, lotus root, green beans which were REALLY good. This dish is on the spicier side so make sure to grab some water. The meats were too salty for me. They're fried separately and mixed in with the spices and veggies. It would've been perfect if they went light on the salt. Overall, portions are HUGE. We were stuffed AND had enough for lunch the next day. If you like spicy foods, give this place a try. read more

Awesome little hidden Szechuan gem! I was in the mood for Chinese when I stumbled across this little place. I didn't think much of it being inside the Great Wall supermarket but I was quite impressed. Much more affordable than comparable Szechuan cuisine in the area too! We tried the Lo Mein, Kung Pao chicken, and the spicy chili dish which had beef, fish, and shrimp (it's the one for $12). All of the food was very good. The only negative thing I found was that the dishes tended to be a bit on the salty side. The service was great. The people behind the counter were very friendly and helpful. read more

This place is a godsend for you this want lots of food at a very reasonable price. Whatever you order usually has a big enough serving size for 2-3 people. You will not be able to eat it all one 1 setting unless you force it down. The dry hotpot I ordered was perfectly crispy and extremely flavorful. It was definitely spicy to the point of years but flavorful enough to keep going. By friend ordered the fish and tofu which was amazingly tender and decently spicy. Good food and friendly staff. My go to is #37 on a cold day. Spicy fish and tofu with rice for the same price of Wendys Cant beat that.

Legit Sichuan, large portion, competitive pricing. The dried hot pot was off the hook (except the fish, tastes like a freshwater fish - correct me if I'm wrong). Quite not so rude as other reviewers described - maybe they reverse discriminate against their own kinds =) No unpleasant engagement at all, just very happy that I had finally tried their food. During Tuong Vi's UYE event, we stopped in the Great wall shopping center for lunch on a Saturday, and after perusing all of the shops, I settled in on Humble house. I ordered a super americanized dish of Sesame chicken ($7.55 before tax), which was plated with broccoli and a side of steamed rice. The Sesame chicken was less sweet than many other locations i've tried, which isn't bad. The meat was breast, tender, and lightly fried, without a heavy coat of grease/breading at all. Not bad! The star of the show for me though, was the pork belly, which I saw someone else order, and had to get a to go order of my own. The pork belly was $10.25, and came plated with diced onion, garlic, some sort of leafy greens and a side of steamed rice. I'd never had pork belly before, which is pretty much bacon cooked a different way, but wow, the savory flavor was well received. Very tender with an almost melt in your mouth consistency, and the portion size was definitely able to stretch over three meals, or share with a table of your friends. There is a $10 credit card minimum, and they only accept Discover, Visa and Mastercard, so plan accordingly when you come in, and not necessarily a Humble house problem, but if you're coming to lunch on a Saturday, understand that finding a seat, especially for a group, will take some effort and planning I'll 100% be back to Humble House to try more of their dishes, as they have a TON of them (pics below). Humble house? More like Greed house. I asked for a bowl of rice to go for my leftovers but they apparently charge you for extra rice. One of the ladies in the front told me, "you got two entrees, you only get two bowls of rice." What? Never coming here again. read more
