Desperate to try new spots so took a chance here on a Saturday night and omg I'm glad I did. It's a really small space, 1-2 tables, and basically built for takeout. Got the onion smash cheeseburger w sweet potato fries. Burger has really really good flavor and the ingredients taste high quality. That ain't Oscar Meyer bacon they using. The patty is not a smash patty (see pic) but that's ok b/c it isn't too thick. Easy burger to eat with right amount of toppings and cheese. It was a teensy bit dry, wish the onions had more flavor and the special sauce came through more (I had to triple check they didn't forget it) but overall it was freaking delicious and such a nice change from the LA burger spots that generally all taste the same. Humble Potato has a wide menu from rice plate, burgers, sandwiches and sides. The Japanese/Hawaiian inspired menu has something for everyone. The parking is street parking or meters along Washington. Got takeout from here. Quick and easy pickup. Got the hambaga and fries. The burger was just okay. It wasn't juicy as they say and other reviewers. Patty was actually kind of dry and didn't have much flavor to it. Not sure where the Japanese flavors and whatnot were. The fries were underwhelming as well. Tasted like frozen fries from the grocery store. For the price point it wasn't quite worth it. In-n-Out would have been more satisfying for a quick bite to eat. I came here for their burgers since it was delicious the first time, but got intrigued by their Banh Mi and decided to give it a try. And boy was I glad I did! The sandwich is packed with veggies and it's very refreshing. They also have beer which is always a plus. First time here, it was found by a friend on Yelp after our original lunch spot was closed. Lucky us! Service was perfect. It was not too busy and food was served quickly. We sat outside in their covered back patio. Everything on the menu looked really good but 3 of us ordered the KATSU KARE SANDO w/ yummy Japanese curry . 100% would recommend. The meat quality was pretty standard, but I liked how all the ingredients they used were pretty fresh. The garlic parmesan fries were very nice and garlic-y. We all got different items, but it seemed like everyone also liked their dish! My friend next to me got the garlic noodles with katsu, and she said it was really oily and heavy. We also ordered kaarage to shared, but I wish it was more meaty than airy. The mentaiko (?) sauce was pretty nice! The chicken salad and yakiniku sandwich were both great but it slightly lacked the sesame flavor in the salad and the yakiniku sauce flavor that are reminiscent of the two dishes. My friend and I each got a happy hour set which is $20 for a burger, fries, and a beer (we both got Calpico instead because we didn't feel like drinking). The fries were thick and crispy, but a little over cooked and I would have liked more for the price. The Obaasan sandwich was crunchy, but I was not a fan of the very strong ginger marinade of the chicken and the coleslaw on the burger added no flavor. It needed some pickled veg! Wow wow wow!! This unassuming little Asian-fusion burger-and-fries spot indeed looks humble. So much so that I have been passing by it for a couple of years and never tried it. That is, until last night. Holy cow, I have definitely been missing out!! The food and the service were both exceptional! Boyfriend and I ordered the garlic Parmesan fries, the Obaasan sandwich, and the Kokubaga sandwich. The food was so hot and fresh off the grill that I literally burned the roof of my mouth biting down into my delicious fried chicken sandwich, but it was immediately cooled by the yummy Asian-flavored slaw. Totally worth it!! Boyfriend devoured his pork sando in about two minutes flat and said it was delish - it disappeared so fast I'll have to take his word for it, ha ha. We both enjoyed the order of crispy garlicky fries, which came with both ketchup and an Asian spicy mayo. Super happy with our dinner choice, and only sorry it took us this long to discover this little gem of an eatery!! Yelp category for this spot should be adjusted. It's more of an Asian-American fusion than an American burger/sandwich spot. I mean sure, they serve burgers and sandwiches, but there's a lot of Asian fusion going on here. For example, kare fries (or curry fries) and sapporo beer? Also, just look at their interior design. There are just so many signs they're going for some Asian blend. That said, I wasn't the biggest fan of their recommended/distinguished menu items. It's like bringing two good things that don't work together going so well and sort of destroying the integrity of each. I'm not here to roast, but as someone that grew up each both American and Asian dishes, the combinations do not work. For example, curry and fries? It's like adding salt to a salty dish. Curry is normally served with rice and and it can be served with an egg to level out the saltiness, but this... I'll leave it there. My friend and I like burgers and beer, so we came here only to be surprised. None of the items we had struck gold, but it wasn't inedible. I used to go to The Humble Potato in Westchester (near LAX) at 8321 Lincoln Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045, but started coming to this location in Culver City. The Westchester location is still open 'tho and gives me 2 options for what I call DESTINATION DINING where I would make it a special trip and go out of my way to come to The Humble Potato as part of my plans. I read some other Yelp reviews about this place and found it odd. I always take Yelp reviews with a grain of salt as they tend to be biased towards complainers and those with a low amount of reviews on Yelp who use it to just bitch and moan, the type who you can never satisfy and you look at their history of reviews and it's riddled by bad complaint reviews yet these are the same people who never take the time to write nice reviews when they get good service or a nice experience. WIth that, this review sort of dispels some of the unwarranted comments that don't seem justified. The food here is extremely well priced for today's restaurant experience with fresh cooked to order food that isn't a cheap franchise/chain nor fast food joint. When you get a burger here it's a gourmet experience not something like Five Guys, In N Out, McDonalds, Shake Shack and other overcooked, salty and greasy burger joints. THE HUMBLE POTATO offers unique burgers you can't really find at other places. Their menu has 8 different burgers to choose from. The Average meal will cost you $15-20. If you go to McDonald's a meal will cost you about $8-12, so for the incremental price difference you get healthier fresher food and larger portions, so it's a better option and decision to come here in my opinion. I love their KATSU DOGGU, a curry hot dog that's panko crusted. It's pretty unique. There's something for everyone here... Burgers, Hot Dogs, Rice Plates, Salad, Sandwiches and you can even create your own Asian Tapas styled meal with their side dishes and appetizer small bites. My family loves this place because we all have different preferences (we're kind of selective, aka picky aka fussy) yet here at The Humble Potato we all each have our favorites and a lot to choose from so it's not always the same dish (although my wife loves their Battle Royale Burger as well as the Bahn Mi, where I like the basic Hambaga and the Katsu Doggu, then my son usually gets the Obaasan Chicken Sandwich or oddly enough, as a kid loves their Salad... as well as the Popcorn Chicken and Kare Fries) We often take out of town visiting friends here because it's such a unique experience. The worst part of it is that everything on the menu looks so good, you wish you could order everything and try all of the wonderful dishes!!! As a local, fortunately I have that option, but my brother in The Bay Area always asks me to take him here when he visits and he vows to try something different every visit. He's enjoyed everything so far, some more than others and his go-to repeat has been Poku Baga because he can't find that anyplace else as good as the marinated pork belly here at The HP. He even asked me to bring him a few when I visit The Bay Area for him to freeze for the future and eat one as he picks me up from the airport. I highly recommend The Humble Potato. This location as well as the one in Westchester are equally awesome I think the Culver City has a slightly bigger menu, but all of the greatest fan favorite dishes are at both locations. The service and staff are really friendly. In Hawaii, we'd call it the "Aloha Spirit" where you feel sort of treated like family as you enter and graciously appreciated as you leave. The place is hip and clean too, so has a really nice ambiance to it. This location has OUTDOOR DINING so you can appreciate the year nice 'round California weather any time of day Parking here is easy if you know the area and are sometimes willing to walk a block or so if you desire that free residential neighborhood parallel parking option when it's a busy time of day. read more

I know we're in a time of shrinkflation and higher prices. I also know that nobody that comes here usually orders a salad. But for $17 I found the chinese chicken salad to be pretty insulting in size. It was closer in size to a side salad from most restaurants than an entree. I'm not even sure it was half the size of chinese chicken salads from other restaurants I go to that charge the same price. Small eatery that serves up yumm American grub with a Far East twist. I quite like Humble Potato's recipes and flavours. The very kool generous manager-- reminds me of a Japanese Hawaiian bruddah-- let me sample a couple teas. House-brewed Jasmine iced tea is sweet, but not too much so, and thoroughly refreshing. Tamago Sando is a brunch-y, tremendously tasty take, on an egg sandwich. Cheddar melting on caramelised onion, sunny egg, avocado, applewood-smoked bacon, hash browns, tomato, HP Sauce on a toasted bun. There's just something lovely and nicely spicy about the HP Sauce, a British staple condiment.. really perks up the rest of the sandwich. Not to mention, a coincidental match to this place's initials. The hash brown patty and crisp tomato slice were about as big as the bun. Yolk was perfectly runny, and the bun halves are buttery delicious. And the bacon oh the bacon, it is suupaa-excellent. Would totally order this again. The Humble P hangs Japanese pop culture paraphernalia on the walls and sports a ware-house industrial hipster-y vibe. You'll find limited counter single seating in front room, or head to the back quasi-patio, which has several tables. Great spot for lunch or early supper. Humble Potato also does a comprehensive catering menu. Extra star for being funky, non-corporate-chain and original.
