Outside on the patio.
Brian W.

Service was great, the elevated outdoor patio was reasonably comfortable if a bit sunny on a warm fall day, the vibes inside were not bad; the inside seating by the window was about it, the patio clearly is where everyone eats. Food came out fairly quickly, however I'm not sure on breakfast tacos. They're a great way to get more variety than a single (larger) breakfast burrito, but none of the three tacos I had left much of an impression. Guadalupe was a bit of a mess as soon as unrolled from the foil, although perhaps the most tasty one (cheddar, eggs, chorizo). Pecos (brisket and eggs) held together in taco form better and was close in taste, while Trinity (eggs, bacon, potato, cheddar) was maybe the most disappointing to me. Perhaps if I had eaten them in reverse order, maybe Trinity would have been hotter in temperature and more appealing? Not sure to be honest.

Great option if you're in the mood for a casual Tex Mex breakfast. I had the Don't Mess With Texas, and it hit the spot. The flour tortillas are representative of what you'd find in a Texas taco joint, and the sauces are pretty good. Would like to come back again to try some of their lunch options, and maybe a frito pie.

Absolutely amazing! Got the specialty tacos: one with chicken and the other one with brisket and potatoes. I really liked the latter. The other brisket and cabbage one comes with a lot more brisket so may try that next time. Also tried the frozen drinks. Very tasty. Will 100# be back

Came here for brunch the other morning and was very pleased. It is self-order/seated style, with a mixture of both indoor and outdoor tables. We ordered an array of breakfast tacos, with the trinity being our favorite. We got 3 tacos per person, which was very filling as they are generously sized. I'd recommend 2 for a lighter meal and 3 for a more filling one.

So many good reviews of HomeState, not only for breakfast but for the food in general. Had to try and see if the hype was accurate or just another LA trend... 1030am on a Sunday and no line so a great start. We had lots of questions for the person at the counter and he was super friendly and helpful. Pecos/Don't Mess with Texas tacos for me and Classic Miga for the wife. Sat outside and the wait was less than five minutes. I was hesitant at first when I saw how small the tacos looked and figured I would have to order a few more to fill me up. Both tacos were solid and surprisingly very filling. Then I added the two salsas that were brought out and those solid tacos became outstanding tacos. Just the right amount of heat and perfect for everything we ate. The Miga had a great amount of onions mixed in to add some flavor and texture to the eggs (and yes a lot of salsa too). The prices were spot on and we were told that we have to try to come back for lunch as we didn't hit the queso which is also supposed to be really good. If there is anything negative to say it's that there are only a few street parking spots out front (30 minute parking) so you may need to hit the local streets to find something and watch out for the permit only signs. But it's always funny to watch LA drivers TRY to parallel park while having breakfast. We'll be back soon for Queso and more!

Brisket taco: 10/10 Potato taco :10/10 Chicken taco: 8/10 Side of black beans: 9/10 Salted chocolate chip cookie: 9/10 Service: 10/10. The prices are very fair. My son and I had dinner for about $20 total. I will definitely be back to this place. You order at the counter and can then eat at outside tables or a small seating area inside.

Brightly decorated location that had taken over the Japanese sando spot location. The staff was busy but very gracious. Their breakfast tacos are top notch. I got a Trinity and Guadalupe which were both hearty portions that are made to order. They also come with their yummy salsa.

Really good Tex-mex style tacos in Culver City. If you're getting breakfast tacos, I recommend the trinity (bacon, egg, and potato). The bacon and potato have a great crispy texture. The flour tortillas here are fantastic. If you have kids with you, they offer crayons, and the cheese quesadilla is a good option.

You know you love a place when you start craving its food. That's what happened with me and HomeState. Friends introduced me to their tacos a few years ago, and after that, I was hooked. I've had their breakfast tacos and so many of their anytime tacos. My personal favorite is the brisket taco, and the picadillo. I've also enjoyed the Trinity taco. As a side, I love getting the crispy potato and lil' queso - such a treat! The service is always excellent and fast, too.

Plenty of parking, and, while the line looked quite intimidating, the wait was not nearly as bad as it looked. Really fast service and friendly staff members. Note that there's not a lot of seating, so be prepared to potentially eat in your car or take the food to-go. I ordered a Tito's taco, an enchilada, a cup of guacamole to accompany the chips and salsa with my order, and a piña agua fresca. The taco was delicious. It could have been stuffed just a bit more, but it absolutely hit the spot. The enchilada was not nearly as good as the taco, unfortunately. Texture was very tough and dense, and the flavors were not quite there. The piña agua, however, was absolutely fantastic. Tasted exactly like a fresh pineapple with a perfect level of sweetness. The chips and salsa were my favorite part of the meal, though. The salsa was superb, the guac tasted great (very much a creamy, less viscous texture), and the chips were perfectly fried and obviously fresh. Personally, I thought the prices were fair for what we received. Way higher than a taco stand where the quality would be better, equal or slightly less than a taqueria, but way lower than one of the boutique taco shops around the area, especially given the fact that the chips and salsa come with each meal.

The tacos remain the best beef hard shell and the salsa is the best in the world. However, it is an absolute tragedy and should be illegal that it's $6.15 for one taco with cheese and $14.70 for a beef cheese burrito. It is also a tragedy that the burrito is kids size that my 2 year old can eat on their own. These used to be my favorite and huge, but I can no longer order them. This place used to be a family favorite but I can no longer order extras like we used to. They closed off the inside which was convenient to order, I think just to make the outside look busy. I'm not a fan of these new changes to my favorite taco place in LA.

I'm always in a rush, so I never stop. Well tonight is my night. It was a bit cold and windy, but who cares - I get TACOS! There is always a line and folks sitting at the provided tables and seats in front of their truck. They have all your favorites, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, gringas and even fajitas! My favorite and default tacos are always going to be the carnitas and carne asada. Right after that will be Al Pastor and Chicken. They also have lingua, tripe, cabeza as well as chorizo! While they take cards, bring cash, that's the best price. Card prices are a bit more. Their prices are clearly marked on the huge menu. Orders come out quick and help yourself to the condiments bar filled with limes, pickled onions, red and green salsas and sauces, radishes, and pico de gallo. The guys behind the grill are friendly and fast. They do a great job of keeping the area clean and keeping the condiment bar stocked. They have trucks all over LA. Check out their locations on their website or here on Yelp! I am coming back and want to try their burritos and tortas!

My only gripe is that the prices continue to rise and the chips and salsa are only free for the first basket, which really takes away the appeal of a local family style Mexican restaurant. My fav burrito is now $20, and while the burrito itself is large, it's a high price to pay for just a burrito with no sides. I think if the chips and salsa were still unlimited the increase in food prices wouldn't be such a hit as well. Their drinks are always great I just wish they had happy hour since the prices really are up there with other new and modern restaurants with no fun deals or unlimited chips and salsa like many other family style places. Their servers are kind and attentive and there's not a crazy amount of tables so there tends to be a wait no matter the time of day. Also parking can be hard to find as it's basically located inside a neighborhood.

However, El Primo has recently HUMBLED me. I have to give credit where credit is due and El Primo managed to slide in my number 1 spot for best tacos in LA - I am truly impressed. Of course, I always opt for carne asada and the meat here is just so tender and flavorful especially when paired with their salsa which has the perfect amount of spice and flavor. As a major pineapple fan, I understand it's more traditional to add that with al pastor but I add it onto my carne asada tacos and it is so yummy. Their pineapple is freshly cut right in front of you and is my favorite aspect of this vendor as I know not all vendors have it. Lastly, let's be clear that not all horchata is created equally but El Primo has superior horchata. The amount of milkiness and cinnamon is absolute perfection as I've had some watery horchatas in the past, so make sure you grab yourself a horchata while you're here. As someone who lives in the valley, despite recently discovering this spot a few weeks ago I find myself driving out to Venice a lot lately just for these tacos because they are just THAT GOOD and also very cheap. Just make sure you bring cash or have Zelle and enjoy the food here because it is phenomenal.
