    three meat plate with slaw.
    Pat L.

Well here's my review for Humboldt Smokehouse bbq. Again I wanted to give a 5 star review but I just can't. I ordered the 3 meat plate with 2 sides. I ordered the sliced beef brisket, the slices were the average 1/4" thick but with brisket or ribs I always look for that reddish smoke ring but it really wasn't there. Plus there's that test. The bend and pull test. If the slice has a good bend and if it easily pulls apart it's a good way to know what that slice is not dry and is juicy. Second was the brisket burnt ends that is like the juiciest, tender, melts in yo mouf meat candy. But it was like jerky. The third was the pulled chicken. That was ok. The sides were baked beans and slaw. The baked beans also were ok. But the slaw really lacked flavor but at least they had some texture without being soggy. Well this was another working on the road looking for good bbq adventure. Until then. I'm out.

Hubby was wanting BBQ so he looked up this place... it was a lil hard to find only since we didn't know the area and was using google.. but it was really just us... its on 101 so you really can't miss it. Just look for "HSH" All the meat had great flavor, moist and was tender... I tried the Carolina sauce and the regular but honestly it was great without the sauce. They didn't have some of the items, like the pork belly or sweet potatoes, so I was bit bummed since I was really looking forward to that. There were no fountain drinks as the machine was broken, but they had some in a fridge. Staff were friendly and service was quick... it was clean inside and had windows down the front...

Vinegar slaw, beans, pulled pork, brisket 10/10

Excellent food and service! Pulled pork was tender but needed more flavor so I added the Kansas City spicy bbq sauce and that made it so much better. Burnt ends were flavorful, some were dry but others were juicy. The linguisa was excellent on its own. The brisket was small but fall apart tender. Usually it can be chewy but this was great. Def loved the beans, deviled eggs, and vinegar slaw.

Tried this place twice now and unfortunately got sick from the "Cadillac Burrito." Hoping it's a one-off thing, but still unpleasant.

The six sauces available: Kentucky, Spicy Kentucky, Lexington, Georgia, and Mustard

We stopped here after visiting the very lovely Sequoia Zoo nearby. I was very much in the mood for bbq and wanted to try a local restaurant, so after some searching, we came across this place on Google. The building it's inside is very cute and historical, but once inside, it feels a lot less enthusiastic. I ordered the two meat combo with a side of Mac n cheese, whereas my husband ordered the Mac Daddy, a type of bbq & Mac n cheese burrito wrap. Once ordered, we were directed to get any sauces at their little condiments table. Above it was a chalk board describing each sauce, which is appreciated. I got each sauce so I could try them all. My pulled pork was a bit dry and overall not very flavorful. I didn't get much smokiness or anything from it, so it really just became a vehicle for bbq sauce; which is sad as smoked pork is my absolute favorite. The brisket was better! It was juicy and tender, with a very light smoke ring visible. Both I felt were complimented best by the Lexington vinegar-based sauce and the mustard sauce. Overall out of six sauces, I think the Lexington, Mustard, and Spicy Kentucky were the best ones. My husband did enjoy his Mac Daddy, but felt that the flavors just kinda melded into one, making it a little bland. He said that adding the mustard sauce definitely helped. My Mac n cheese side was very bland, and not very creamy or anything, just a block in it's bowl. Overall, we wish it had been better, but it wasn't the worst.

We looked at the reviews here on Yelp! and were a bit worried at the low overall rating. Well, rest assured, we had a good meal and enjoyed our visit. My wife had the filet mignon, while I ordered the rib eye. I asked our waitress about upgrading to the pricier dry aged rib eye, and she surprisingly talked me out of it saying the regular rib eye was really good. She was right. The combination of the grilling and the buttery sauce was delicious. It didn't need any additional sauce, but out of curiosity I tried the house sauce that was on the table, and it was quite nice. For some reason, they have a Tesla coil (from the original Tesla, not the car company) and they fired it off while we were there. They give plenty of notice before they do as it makes a loud sound and sparks fly about the device. It was interesting. So, if you're in town and looking for a good steak, give this place a try.

Boy have I been eating so unhealthy on this trip, but you know that because you are following. Is that part of the reason I am having so much fun? This did not disappoint. I did not think it was very spicy, but my daughter said it was too spicy for her. Good thing she ordered the mild version of garlic chicken; see below. Decent portions. Garlic Chicken - A more mild version of the above. But with rice and mac rather than fries. A slightly healthier version. Ahi Poke Bowl - My wife's choice. The first hiccup, was the restaurant is less than 10 minutes from our place, yet from the time I ordered to the time the food came, it was just under an hour. Plus, it was after lunchtime on a Saturday, which should've meant that the place should have been less busy That's a long wait for a short distance. The food itself was pretty good. My first order was the cod, fritters. The flavor was good. I could definitely taste the cod. What I didn't care for, was the texture. They were pretty gummy. I don't know if that's how they are supposed to be or not, but I was not a fan of the texture. They did come with a red sauce for dipping, but it was a bit too spicy for me. On the other end of the spectrum, however, was the curried goat, which I loved. I called ahead to ask if it was spicy, and they said, not really. And they were right. It wasn't really that spicy. It was a mellow spice that made my forehead sweat just a little bit, but well within what I like for spicy. The flavor itself was fantastic. The goat was bone in, but it was so tender. It was literally falling off the bone. Goat can be gamey, but this wasn't. It had a nice mellow flavor. There was also a gravy, which had a deep, rich flavor, and the rice had a good texture and a nice flavor also. It didn't taste like plain white rice. Overall, even with the delivery cost, the price was very reasonable. I would definitely order from here again, but the next time I would go into the restaurant instead of doing delivery. Also, while I liked the flavor of the cod, fritters, next time I would order something else. Thank you so much for an overall good meal.

This was the worst bomboclaat Jamaican food we ever had in our life along with the worst service…read more My BF and I walked into this restaurant on Saturday, 1/3/2026 around 2pm. The door was open with the open sign up so we assumed they were open for business. We walked in to someones old Jamaican granny behind the counter alone and confused. I'm not sure if she meant to leave the door open but the hours of operation that were posted were well within the time we came. When we walked in, granny asked us if we wanted to eat in or take it to go. We said to go and proceeded to look at the menu. The menu looked like it had good stuff but when we asked granny if she had the fish or the patties, she said she had neither (what kind of Jamaican spot doesn't have patties?!). My BF wanted jerk chicken and fries and granny said she had that. I, myself, honestly did not want anything because they did not have the fish but settled for roti. I wanted roti with beef at first but granny said they did not have that either (I honestly think she just didn't know where anything was) so I said nevermind. Then granny got on the phone with the person that left her alone - referred to only as "she/her" and that person said that they had roti with chicken so I reluctantly agreed. After granny got our orders she began cooking. My BF and I sat down at the tables all the way to the left next to that makeshift wall and waited for about 30 mins for granny to make the food. During those 30 mins we waited, we noticed a lot of interesting things - there is mold around the window on the left if you are facing the door from the inside. Yikes. I was looking down at my phone and saw black smoke following me only to look up and see poor granny in a cloud of smoke behind the counter. It was then that my boyfriend told me "does she need help?" We could clearly see she was struggling to make the food. Mind you, the whole reason we decided to stay was because we thought granny was going to throw down but we were totally wrong. Granny packed up the food and then I asked her how much I owed her to which she got on the phone again with the person that left her alone and came back with $36.27. LUCKILY I had cash but unfortunately granny didn't have any change so I ended up giving her $40 in cash. Right before we left, granny asked us if we wanted to take a drink with us. I was honestly thinking that granny was telling us to get a drink because we overpaid her by a few dollars but she ended up trying to charge us for it. WTF? I pulled out my calculator and told her we paid her an extra $3.73 which covered the price of the soda. She was saying things that were really hard to understand but I think she thought that extra $3.73 was a tip. I don't tip on pick up or to go orders ever. Finally, after going back and forth with granny, she told us to take the soda that was on display, which was warm and maybe old. She surely did not know where the cold ones were. We went into our car to eat the food and it was horrible. The jerk chicken was not jerk at all. It was marinated with something but it definitely was not jerk. Granny just threw it on the grill and overcooked it because the thigh was tough and dry. The roti I got was not the flaky kind and it was whatever. None of us finished our food. The only thing that was good was the warm soda. Whoever left granny alone and confused is dead wrong. We know she tried so we give her credit for that but it was still overall a strange situation. Please fix that mold ASAP.
