We were driving through the area and excited to try this place. When we arrived (at about 4:30), we were told they were out of half the meats and sides. In addition, the credit card system wasn't working, so we had to pay cash. When we got the order, the portion sizes were generous; however, the burn ends and pulled pork were so dry, we had to wash it down with water to swallow it. If this is the standard of service and quality, I doubt it will be in business very long. read more

Wishing I had read the reviews before I stopped by here and wasted my money for a meal I couldn't even stomach. The chicken was dry, burnt, and cold. The mac and cheese was one big clump of noodle and was also very obviously just Velveeta that had been sitting under a heatlamp all day. The cornbread was dry, mealy, and not at all fresh. I took a bite or two of each thing and threw the rest away. Keeping up with the humboldt tradition, mediocrity... the worst mac and cheese ever. Everythings cooked in an electric smoker. Everyone in humboldt electrically smokes their stuff except sammys which isnt even american bbq. Its a damn pity nobody has the heart to smoke real meat on a dang stickburner or even a small smokey joe or any coal based smoker FFS. Electric smoked meat is an insult to BBQ. It has its place but pellet smoke has the same generic flavor. Zero nuance like wood. They got a couple non traditional burritos that are just ok..... their sauces NOT BAD... good selection too... but kinda confusing as this place has zero bbq style... not texas bbq, not memphis style... not really defining. Its humboldt style, mediocre as the blazes. On second thought porter street has a texas style pit, but literally just uses it to char tri tip on wood, not smoke it, then fridge their fresh grilled meat overnight to cut it so thin on a meat cutter and shamefully regrill it on a kitchen grilltop like a philly cheese.... But thats another story..... just trying to exemplify how poor "bbq" is in humboldt. Three stars because its edible, mac and cheese got thrown out awful... worst thing is theyre always sold out and when i finally got a taste i was stoked they were sold out the past times. The godfather? Burrito the one with jalapeno poppers and cream cheese with burnt ends is all i would recommend. Ive had a few other things a couple plates, nothing was striking in flavor. I get better BBQ from the McRib. The large Lady serving the food was lazy and didn't bring trays around the corner to our table, called us to the counter to grab our food. Place was super empty. Stopped in to Humboldt Smokehouse for dinner one eve. I ordered the "Three Meat Box" - for my 3 meats I selected pulled pork, KC burnt ends, and brisket. I wanted the pork belly - but they were out. You get two sides with this menu selection, I attempted to order the Jalapeño poppers and deviled eggs - but they were out of those two sides as well. So I ended up with their Mac and Cheese and spicy Cole Slaw. The pulled pork was moist and succulent. The KC burnt ends were divine! Moist, right amount of bark, char, and rich in flavor. The brisket had a beautiful smoke ring, and a nice bark to it - but sadly it was a tad on the dry side. The two sides were rather ordinary - I felt like the Mac and Cheese needed to be "cheesier" and the spicy Cole Slaw was not that spicy. They offer some sides of BBQ sauces - I snagged sides of the regular and spicy KC BBQ sauce and liberally applied to my meats. The spicy BBQ sauce was actually quite spicy and really good! There is both indoor seating here, as well as some outdoor seating under a covered area out back. This is not fast food, so be prepared to wait a bit after ordering. Okay, haven't been here in a while, but given the ratings I suspect they hired a bunch of people to write ratings. First - the comment on the view - there is no view from the restaurant, it is in the middle of town on a busy national highway next to a Starbucks. Next, they use a Kansas City based sauce - which I cannot stand - metalic taste. Staff is virtually invisible, because it is mostly just a pick up and drive away place with a small dining area. So - how to read a review about almost every restaurant in Humboldt County - if it is above a three it is either being written by a professional rater on the internet or an employee. You will see, if you look, that Carl's Junior and Burger King get 4 star ratings. Realistically the best restaurants in Humboldt are edible, but nothing to write home about. While visiting the Redwood National Park, we stopped by Eureka and ate lunch at Humboldt Smokehouse. We loved our sandwiches! My daughter and I had the Smokie Joe sandwich (beef brisket with cheddar cheese). We thought it was great... Until I tried my wife's sandwich...the Humboldt sandwich (burnt ends with crispy onions and smoked cream cheese)...which was even better! Sides were good...we tried mac & cheese and cole slaw. Was on my annual work trip to Eureka and I had fond memories of Humboldt Smokehouse. I was FOMOing from the dried-out brisket last time so I decided to drop in on a Thursday for ROUND 2! LESS GOOOO!! I got the 3 protein options with 2 sides and went with Brisket, Pulled pork and decided to try something new the Pork Belly. 2 sides were Mac n cheese and Coleslaw. First of all the Brisket was YUMMM! I knew it would be quite better this time because it came packing with that meat juice I was missing and craving from my last visit. The brisket had a thin edge of fat on that added a bit of a difference in texture and tons of fatty flavor. The pulled pork was great but a little on the sweeter side. But what I ABSOLUTELY ADORED this time around was the PORK BELLY! It was INSANE! the thick black cancerous coating concentrated the flavors of the rub and the meat like a flavor shell. I am a Elite Yelper who used to work in the restaurant industry. This place has some really Great BBQ meats but the sides are just So So. So we had a shared a 2 Meat Plate, Burnt Ends and Sliced Brisket. Both were really awesome. Had some really great flavor plus they were really tender. So this plate comes with two sides. We choose the beans and coleslaw. The coleslaw was bland. The beans were just OK and only warm. Nothing to write home about. We also had a side of Mac n Cheese. This was actually served Cold. It did not have any flavor but did look good. The other couple with us had a 2 Plate Meal too. They had the same two sides. They choose Chopped Brisket and Pulled Pork. They side it was really great too. So with the meats being a Bomb here it might be best to have sandwiches only here. Do not order anything that has side dishes with it. Driving all day and tired, so admittedly not in the best of moods. We were the only guests eating in. They were out of several of their popular items, like the cornbread, as they were doing a huge catering job. Ordered the brisket. They came out 20 minutes later and said there wasn't enough brisket for both of our orders. Did I want pulled pork? No, I don't like pulled pork. Just give me what brisket you have. Apparently not much. Piled on the pulled pork. Didn't offer to adjust my bill which I already paid. No water, no ice for the $3 can of soda. Quality of food? Definitely not worth the $49+ we paid. My husband said the beans were pretty good. The restaurant was freezing so I kept my coat on. They played head-banging rock through my meal, although they did turn it down a bit when I asked. I was giving this another try...benefit of the doubt and it was a nightmare. They were out of most everything on the menu. I ordered burnt ends and sweet potatoes and then they came out and said they were out of the potatoes. My "burnt ends" were served cold and dry. So dry they were inedible. I was overheard saying so, and was then told, "You gave us a bad review before and got us in trouble so we want you happy and we're making you some more. But they didn't. They said they were twice,, and didn't. Then the extreme sarcasm and f bombs (again). I should have asked for my money back. I won't be going back for the food or service. Both were horrendous and the owner needs to know how customers are treated and how the food is being served. read more

I used to come here once or twice a month as it was absolutely incredible that has changed starting today. I hadn't gone in awhile and it sounded absolutely gas, I even brought my buddy and hyped it up severally. When I came in it had felt like I was bothering the worker when I was ordering. We both got a mac and cheese bowl with pulled pork, which came out in one solid piece. That mac and cheese was not mixing and that should have been a sign. The first bite was stone cold with a mix of warmth from the pulled pork. I only had 3 bites and had to toss the rest which felt wasteful. My buddy, however, finished it and is now throwing up and is in immense pain, physically and mentally. I am a nice guy, didn't complain, didn't want the meal for free, but they needed to know. Called and let the workers know that maybe something wasn't right, was told that everything is made daily and there shouldn't have been a problem. No apologize, nothing. After our trip to Ferndale and our scenic drive, we decided to come here for some dinner. My brother had only been here once before, but he remembered them being very good, so we decided to check it out! I went with a 2 meat plate and chose pulled pork and burnt ends for my meats, and double baked beans for my sides. My mom went with their pork sampler (pulled pork, 2 ribs, and a pork belly slider) and my brother went with their pulled pork and brisket. Here is how it was............ 2 Meat Plate- This thing looked great! It had a nice sized pile of burnt ends, and a nice sized pile of pulled pork. The beans looked pretty decent, too. I took a bite, and knew that this place was legit. Didn't even really need any sauce! (They have about 3-4 to choose from). The burnt ends were my favorite meat. They were crusty pieces of heaven! Some of the best burnt ends I have ever had! The pulled pork was very tasty, too! The beans were just ok. They had a good flavor, and some chunks of meat in them, but they seemed a bit "old" as far as texture goes. Kind of like they were dried out a little too much. Even then, I ate most of them and I have had far worse beans before! My mom and brother loved their food, too. My mom gave me her pork belly slider and my brother gave me a piece of his brisket. Both those items were pretty tasty! Overall, this place is pumping out some legit BBQ! Those burnt ends were fantastic and everything else was really good, too! I can't say a single bad thing about this place AND the meal I had was amazing. I got the burnt ends with cornbread and the regular cole slaw and a side of their deviled eggs. All delicious and my experience has been that when the meat is that good then usually the sides aren't. But that's not the case here. That was some of the best coleslaw I have ever had. Also I had my dog with me and they brought him some scraps with a little bone. He was over the moon as you can see !! The staff is SO NICE. Not surprised this was voted the best bbq two years in a row. I wish I lived closer so I would have time to try all of the menu items. Hopefully I will be back sometime ! read more
