A complete and total ripoff, more than $80.00 for two pathetically small shwarma platters (the beef shwarma platter in particular consisted of three tiny unappetizing sticks of flavorless meat and some diced vegetables), four pieces of mediocre falafel, a small side of hummus, and one drink...and horrible, arrogant, inattentive service. I've eaten takeout from here for over three years but finally came in for brunch. Ambiance is very chill. The online brunch menu is slightly different than what's in the restaurant. Off the brunch menu we ordered the appetizer sampler with an entree of the schnitzel. Off the regular menu we ordered the shawarma platter (which is listed online as part of brunch menu but I couldn't find it on the dine-in menu). The schnitzel was fried perfectly and the whole dish was so flavorful. The shawarma platter is addicting and in a blink of an eye we cleared off both plates. When we got the check the servers also brought over a free coconut dessert which was perfectly sweetened and creamy. Definitely will continue to order takeout and dine-in here! read more

I am a hummus fanatic. I think of all the food I can use as a vehicle to eat hummus. I am by no means picky and would probably make a true hummus connoisseur weep at all the half-eaten tubs of supermarket brands in my fridge. So I'm here to tell you that the hummus at Hummus Kitchen is definitely a highlight but the other dishes fell a bit flat. (1) Hummus: 10/10. I prefer my hummus on the chunkier side for maximum dipping ability and they hit the texture out of the park; also liked the generous sprinkling of chickpeas on top. The pita bread on the side was some of the best I've eaten, not sure if freshly baked but extremely fluffy. Don't forget the Yelp check-in deal for a free mazza of hummus. (2) The baba ganoush, which I always think of something as extremely difficult to mess up. Almost licked the plate clean for this one. (3) This may sound a bit odd but the cucumber infused water was so refreshing to have on the side. The less wow-worthy stuff: (1) The falafel could have used a touch more crisp and seasoning. (2) Charred eggplant, with a combo of ingredients which sounded excellent on paper, missed the mark - it tasted overly burnt and the thick coating of tahini didn't help mask it at all. Presentation was also strange, with pita chips of varying shapes and sizes sticking out of the eggplant like antenna and pomegranate seeds dumped on top. Kind of looked like a four-year-old had been tasked with decorating it. The indoor seating is cramped even by NYC standards. We came on a Friday night and they seemed understaffed. A wait between getting the hummus and then the rest of our order. Baklava was all right. I like mine a little less sweet with more nut filling and theirs was doused in honey and syrup. Came here for a Saturday night dinner. We were seated quickly considering we hadn't made a reservation. The menus are on iPads which I thought was pretty cool! We split a mazze trio and a falafel laffa. The trio we chose included the cauliflower, hummus, and baba ghanoush. They were all great but the baba ghanoush was my favorite and had a subtle smoky flavor. The falafel laffa was really flavorful and the fresh vegetables complemented the falafel well. Sundays are for trying a new spot for lunch, and i'm so glad we found this gem of a restaurant. It's quaint atmosphere, beautiful ambiance and welcoming staff made us feel even more excited to try this place. We were greeted and seated quickly , mind you it's a small place, so plan accordingly if you do decide to stop in. The digital menus are great for swiping to see all the wonderful options they have. We ended up ordering the sangria , followed by the Falafel Laffa and the Chicken Shawarma Hummus with fresh pita bread. The falafel was perfectly made, full of flavor and was soft on the inside with a light crunch on the outside, and the Chicken Shawarma Hummus was incredible! I felt like I could eat this everyday , that's how delicious it was. The salad had a smell to it that made it inedible The two Laffa wraps - packaged up with the wraps that were soaked - had to take out the filling and eat it like that (maybe package separately). Came here on a weekday evening! They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The name says it all, the hummus is delicious and there are many different varieties on their menu. I ordered the chicken hummus which included a side of pita. The pita was warm and soft, and paired perfectly with the creaminess of the hummus. I hadn't ever tried a hummus dish with chicken inside it before, but can confirm now that it is really good. The prices were a bit more expensive than I would have expected, but the servings are fairly large (I had enough to take home for lunch the next day). Ive been here at least 4-5 times now and its just delicious every time. Their staff is also really friendly and personable and the restaurant is never too crowded where it feels like you're just another customer they have to tend to. I can tell that they really want to make sure that you enjoyed your food! I almost always get the mezze trio when im here, cauliflower and hummus always, + something else. Ive tried fava beans, grapeleaf thing, babaganoush, falafels as part of the mezze trio. Id choose falafel as my third if i really had to choose. Taking two stars away from my previous review of Hummus Kitchen for three reasons. First, since writing that review I've tried more items on their menu, and have been disappointed. I was very excited to try the fava bean hummus- thinking that the beans would be blended into the hummus itself to give it a different flavor. Upon ordering it though, I realized that it was the same hummus as all of their dishes, just with cold canned fava beans in a pile on top, and a rubbery hard boiled egg. Their Mediterranean chopped salad had far too many onions in it for my liking too. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have given this restaurant a five star review, considering that I already knew their falafel was too dry and the chicken shawarma hummus weirdly pungent. I still really like their dolmades with pomegranate seeds and mint sauce, as well as their babaganoush. However the point of a good restaurant isn't to get the same thing always, but to try new things and be surprised by how good they are. That sadly doesn't seem to be the case here, at least for me. Second, after trying more hummus from other mediterranean restaurants, I've discovered that I don't especially like the hummus here. To me this is basically a deal breaker, since the place is literally called the hummus kitchen. Personally, I prefer a smoother and more creamy hummus than the thicker, chunky hummus served here. I believe that HK specializes in Israeli hummus and cuisine (judging by the flags out front), so if the hummus texture and flavor here is up to Israeli standards it's not a problem with HK, just my own personal preference. The smooth creamy tahini-rich hummus that I like seems to be more common in Turkish restaurants. Third, now that I've realized I'm not in love with the food here, the high prices do not seem worth it to me. I understand that the experience might be different for people dining in and enjoying the cozy atmosphere for a while, but for people getting takeout the prices seem much too high. I guess since I'm no longer loyal to Hummus Kitchen, it's time to find a different go-to Mediterranean restaurant with better food. read more

My whole family (meaning myself, husband, and in-laws) found this place by chance. We were trying to get into a different brunch place in Manhattan that was extremely popular and crowded. The wait time would have been like 45min. We didn't want to wait that long because we were all hungry and were trying to get to the Met. So we crossed the street and found this place hidden behind some scaffolding. It was either this place or a noodle place next door. And since they all like Mediterranean food, we decided to just eat here (it was also empty, but people started walking in later). We got a free hummus appetizer because I did a Yelp check-in. And it was delicious. We also got a little sampler plate that came with our dishes. My father-in-law got the shakshuka, my brother-in-law got a salad, my husband got a burrito, and I got the eggs Benedict which I believe I split with my mother-in-law. Everything was really good, really fresh, and the pita bread is large and fluffy. Not flat and sad like some other places. If we weren't in Brooklyn and lived closer to this restaurant, we'd probably become regulars. It's a tiny restaurant but it is worth checking out. read more

I got the Fava hummus dish. Presentation was great, but the food was bland. It was literally like a snack that i'd eat but bigger size. It could be like an appetizer with the price of a main dish. I was full at the end though but it was not like a satisfying full ya know. It was very dry since i was just eating straight up hummus so i drenched it in olive oil that was on the table. it didn't help. The server was nice though. He didn't come by our table to check so when i needed water i had to ask. also it took forever for the server to come back with our cards. i was so bored waiting. I got dessert too. Hummus Kitchen is another restaurant that has been operating in my neighborhood for years, but I only discovered it during COVID, when I was looking for restaurants that were delivering tasty and at least somewhat healthy food. For delivery, I used to order their hummus topped with various proteins, including pulled chicken, steak, and chickpeas. With the side of pita and carrot sticks, this made for a very hearty meal, and I often had leftovers for the next meal. I have since dined in several times, and have tried the ground beef shakshouka and the chraime fish, among other dishes. The food is absolutely delicious, and the service is exceedingly cordial, gracious, and hospitable. I will definitely continue to eat here for a long time to come.
