Awesome place to come for Med food. Tho the place can be a bit tight but the food speaks for itself. The food are freshly made and its combo of spices make them memorable. We ordered hummus and med red chicken. They were delish and we were offered free pita bread refill so that we could dip them into the sauce making it a savory experience. Definitely worth coming back in the future : )

Went to Hummus Kitchen on the Upper East Side with my cousin and mom; had a really nice time. I ordered the chicken shawarma on pita and a Mosquito cocktail during happy hour. The food was fresh and filling, and the half priced cocktails were a great deal. Service was quick, the staff were friendly, and the atmosphere felt relaxed and comfortable. Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

Get the red chicken and shawarma hummus!! Gorgeous vibes inside! Service was great. One of the best meals I've had in a while

I was in the area and was looking for some middle eastern food and decided to try Hummus Kitchen. I had the Falafel Lunchbox special and it was delicious. It came with Your choice of protein and was serviced with majadra rice, hummus , cuke/onion/tomato salad and pita. The salad was well marinated and so flavorful. Often I feel like these salads don't have enough infusion of flavor but this one was fantastic! The hummus was creamy smooth and delicious. The pita was soft and amazing. The falafel sat on top of a bed of a veggie and tahini that added a nice contrast. The majadra rice was also very good! It is a lot of food. I would definitely recommend an def com back and try some of the other proteins! I had the Kitchen Kadaif for dessert and it was was light and delicious . It was a new dessert to me . The server recommended it since it was a warm day. The server was also very attentive.

Small kosher Israeli spot with a few tables outdoors if you choose. Salmon lunch special was perfect . Salmon was cooked as requested (rare) with creamy humus , rice and delicious assortment of grilled veggies. I had the mazze trio (pick 3) - babaganoush, Israeli salad and grape leaves which were a bit different than I'm used to. These had meat and were sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. Very good and tasty. Side of pita. A small on the house desert tasted like vanilla soft serve - also delicious. Friendly service. They have a few locations around NYC. I'd go back!

I went for dinner and ordered the charred eggplant, falafel taco, and seni'ya taco. Overall, the food was okay, but not worth the Google ratings hype. I also didn't think that the price matched what was served for the charred eggplant ($17) -- it was mostly a ton of tahini poured over a small charred eggplant and about 6 pita chips spread throughout the dish. I thought the tahini was overpowering and the 6 countable pita chips too few to eat the eggplant; especially if the pita chips are supposed to be the vessel to carry the eggplant. You get two "tacos" per order. They are like two small pita pockets. The falafel looked dry, whereas the seni-ya (ground beef and lamb) was flavorful. The space is small/ intimate and the service is okay. They bring you small ipads to look at the menu.

I got the Chicken Kabob Platter for dinner which was kinda standard. The chicken I felt like didn't have that classic Mediterranean Kabob flavor and texture to it, but it was fine. I liked the red sauce that came with it. The rice on the other hand was amazing and very fragrant. I absolutely loooooved the Hummus here. It was so light and smooth and generally balanced with a little tang to it, and the chickpeas were very soft. The pita was great as well and dipped well in the hummus yummmm I just need to get one of the larger hummus dishes next time.

Strange to write an update less than a week after my initial review. Our first visit was for dinner. Today's was lunch with a friend. A number of restaurants generate business with lunch specials. Hummus Kitchen is no different. Check out my photo; you choose a main which comes with hummus, salad, rice and pita, served together on a segmented plate. My friend and I each ordered salmon. I was a little concerned cause I prefer mine medium rare and she does not. "It'll come out overcooked," I thought to myself. But NO! Both orders of salmon were prepared as requested, and simply delicious. Hummus is creamier and infinitely better than the packaged kind most of us are familiar with. The salad was great, grilled vegetables and beets a good touch. The rice .... well, not everything's a winner. I like this little restaurant, and will most assuredly return.

Shakshuka Brunch, French Toast Brunch (recommend both!)

Pretty good brunch deal for $22, includes entree and small appetizer. We shared the shakshuka which had a great flavor, slightly spicy, and the French toast with halva, fruit, date honey was delicious. Service was nice but my only complaint was the restaurant is pretty cold inside (in winter).

Got new things coming back here, still my favorite hummus place - Mediterranean chicken: this came with the freya bread and so tender. The sauce said that it was spicy, but didn't think that was the case. It was much more tomato based than I expected, similar to shakshuka - The shakshuka senya was still good, and came with a bread I didn't recognize. Not my favorite but certainly the portion size was Plentiful for everything.

First impressions: the space is cozy and tastefully decorated, with decor that feels authentic at first glance. The host was attentive, and we were seated right away--always a good start. I was a little surprised when the server handed us the menus and we opened the front flap to discover... tablets. That said, I actually appreciated the photos of each menu item--it made ordering easier and faster. Now, the food. Hands down, this was the best Mediterranean food I've had in the U.S. We ordered the chicken shawarma tacos and a side of falafel. The falafel was soft on the inside (not dry at all) and crispy on the outside, sitting in a bed of the smoothest tahini cream I've ever tasted--and I don't even like tahini. The chicken was incredibly flavorful, and every bite actually had chicken. No skimping on the protein here. The pita pocket was small but soft and fresh, not dry. Best part: the chicken taco came with small sides of hummus, baba ganoush, creamed tahini, and finely chopped tomatoes and cucumbers. Boom. Every single element was delicious. One downside: there's only one restroom, it's small, and while it's tastefully decorated, it could have used a bit more attention. Would I go back? 100% yes. I honestly wish I could teleport this place back home with me so I could become a regular. read more

My boyfriend and I came and we got the Mezze Trio and a Shawarma Wrap. The waitress was really nice and took great care of us. The hot apple cider was amazing. We tired it both with and without wine. I also love the little leaves in the vases. read more

Valentine's dinner that really didn't hit as well as it should've. All my food looked tasty but it wasn't quite the flavor that I'd expect. Sometimes hummus has that bitter aftertaste. Not all restaurants have that but this is sadly one of them. Like Mamoun's Falafel. I got the hummus kitchen plate with four different hummus (chicken, beef, garbanzo beans, and plain) but it all tasted fine. Could use more oil I think. The beef was my favorite. The senya shakshuka was creamy and good but again could've used more flavor. The French bread was just ok. We got the cauliflower appetizer and that also had a bitter taste. A little burnt taste it felt like. The service was exceptional. They were super friendly. They threw in fries for us (which were my favorite dish of the meal). Super salty, flavor, and hot. They even gave us a complimentary shot but we don't drink. Very thoughtful. read more

HK has been a mainstay of the UES for over a decade. The food is consistently excellent. It's a cozy space that we've preferred to visit when it's not completely packed. Over the many years the staff has of course changed but everyone we've met has always been friendly, helpful and prompt. Standout dishes include the Moroccan laffa wrap and the shakshuka. read more

I told u I been really enjoying trying different hummus. I try the falafel flat bread with hummus on the side and pita bread. I know carbs but it's delicious. I order online so I didn't get to visit the franchise but my food was package welled. Everything portion correctly. Overall 8/10 read more

My office catered this for a work lunch. Everything tasted great that I'd come here for a dinner sometime. The chicken breast looked thin so I'd be nervous it would be overcooked, but it actually was delicious and juicy - I'm impressed how good it was for catering. I wish I got my friend's dish. The mixed grilled meats were a lot closer to doners or skewer meat. Different cuts but also different flavors. What they had in common was a sort of spice-forward sizzling taste. My friend got two appetizers (which I also don't know the name of) but were definitely the most beautifully presented foods I've had in a long while. They were both creams but one had a pepper in it (not the spicy kind). The pepper one was a light refreshing sourness and the other was a heavier but not heeeeavy savory one. Both great to dip your bread in. I wanted to try the lemon cookie for dessert but my friend got us all Tres Leches by accident. That was great but I would say the most non-novel out of everything we got. Delicious, just not something out of the norm-- which is what I go for when I'm trying a new cuisine like Albanian. I wouldn't say this is normal day-to-day Albanian (I have a few friends), it's more like the Americana equivalent, an upscale where Albanians go out to eat.

The eggplant was nicely fried, and I appreciate that they offer the sandwich in a laffa as well, which is usually my preferred vessel when available. The falafel was a bit dry, but not bad. I wasn't expecting fries on the side, but they were a welcome (and delicious) addition.

The skin was nicely seared and very crispy but boy did it give my jaw a workout. It was done medium rare. It was juicy but tough. The small beef tenderloin was tender and smoky. The waiter poured the sauce over the tenderloin for added flavor. Finally dessert was a fruit plate with ice cream and pudding. The fruit was fresh and the flavors of the ice cream and pudding unique. It was a nice end to a good brunch. The price was a little expensive at $85 a person.

Türk kahvaltı is by many measures the pride of Turkish cuisine, and a proper serpme kahvaltı is usually offered with some form of egg dish, like menemen, or mıhlama. Menemen is not the most complex dish to make, but somehow they screwed it up here. The portion was fit for a bird, and that characteristic sweetness from domates salçası was totally absent. The shakshuka on a second visit was an improvement, but had an odd flavor profile from the peppers. One redeeming attribute? They offer şekerli (sweetened) Türk kahvesi, which is oddly hard to find in the States and is in my opinion far more palatable than the unsweetened bitter preparation.

On top of that, we were given tastes of dessert & liqueur - such a nice treat at the end of a long meal. I especially appreciated that the head guy alerted us that gratuity was already added to the check. We had such a great time, that we opted to tip more! I was happy that my group had such a positive experience, and surely will continue to return.

I think the eggs are cooked with cheese, and as someone who typically does not eat cheese, I didn't mind it. I don't know if I'll be back again - I think the concept of an asian twist on the classic diner does sound intriguing but difficult to execute. I also wasn't a big fan of the wait time. If you typically like heavier, diner food then this spot might be the place for you!

Hummus Kitchen is a wonderful middle eastern Mediterranean restaurant. With three different locations, we dined at the location in upper Manhattan It is located on 2nd Avenue, between 83rd and 84th Street. it is a small restaurant, with tables on both sides of the narrow restaurant. The decor is casual and comfortable, thus giving the feeling of being in a small Mediterranean restaurant. We were greeted by our lovely young server, who left us with menus of food and beverages to glance. We ordered three items from the mazze. We ordered the charred beets with tahini, silan, organic mixed greens and walnuts. The falafel balls were made from chick peas and mixed greens. They had a wonderful texture and served with tahini, cured cabbage and grilled onion. the Mediterranean chopped salad was comprised of tomato, cucumber,onion, parsley, mint in a dressing of olive oil and lemon. Each was delightful. Warm whole wheat pita was served along with the mazze. For our beverage we ordered the hibiscus ice tea. Our next course was mushroom hummus. A generous portion of delicious hummus topped with sauteed portobello mushrooms. Our entree was Mediterranean Red Chicken. Boneless chicken in chraime Moroccan sauce, red peppers, lemon, cilantro, and garlic served in a hot pan with a side of majadra rice. The chraime Moroccan sauce is a tomato based sauce.The chicken was tender and very tasty. The rice was perfectly cooked and had a wonderful flavor. From the dessert menu, we ordered the Loco Morocco. Chocolate mousse cake with coconut and whipped cream, with a drizzle of dark chocolate sauce. The cake was silky smooth,light and airy. It looked sinful but tasted sublime. We also ordered the Malabi, Mediterranean flan topped with coconut, pistachio, grenadine, and topped with a sprig of mint. It was a beautiful dessert that was delightful to taste and savor. I enjoyed Hummus Kitchen thoroughly. The food was absolutely delicious. The few critiques, that I can offer are the following. The restaurant was out of stock on some ingredients for beverages listed on the menu. We would have loved to have tried their offerings, as they sounded delicious. The Mrediterranean Red Chicken was described on the menu, served in a hot pan, was not. It was served on a warm plate, different from the menu. The portion was pretty small so I was still hungry afterwards. All of the hummus dishes were pretty dry, again it was like eating a side dish. Over all pretty expensive for the small portion and "side dish" kinda food. The waiter was super nice and sweet tho and you get a free dessert after leaving a yelp review so that was the plus side. The dessert was alright too not the best, it was missing some ingredients on the menu. I ordered the chocolate mousses dessert and it was missing the coconut. One of the dessert was like a vanilla ice cream with some dough but the dough literally taste like sweat I did not like that at all. The atmosphere of the place was nice and pretty, very much European style. For some reason paying for the food took forever the waiter took me and my friends cards and it was almost about 10 minutes pass and our checks still haven't been returned. I had a great experience at Hummus Kitchen on the Upper East Side--this is one of those spots that feels both casual and elevated at the same time. The food is incredibly fresh, and you can tell they take real pride in the quality of their ingredients. The hummus is the star of the show--smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. I tried a few different variations and each one was better than the last. The pita comes out warm and fluffy, which makes a big difference. Very cute place with lovely Middle Eastern design. Our waitress was really friendly and helped us with recommendations as it was our first time there. The shawarma and rice was delicious- a perfect balance of flavours. The chicken shawarma was better than most that I've had in restaurants- cooked really well with a great flavour. We also had falafel because a mazze came with our platter. The falafel was light and crispy, really good. The hibiscus iced tea wasn't up to much but the frozen limonana was amazing!!! So sweet and delicious, you have to try it! And the desserts were great, too. We tried the halva dessert and the chocolate mousse dessert and loved them. The service was quick and the atmosphere was nice, even thought it was quiet during the afternoon. Would 10/10 recommend and I would love to come again soon to try the other dishes. GO! GO! GO! BEST HUMMUS IN NYC! Going to Hummus Kitchen is like taking a quick trip to Israel. Maor the owner is an incredible guy who brought his traditions and talent from Israel in 2004 and has mastered hummus among other dishes. It is creamy, has perfect texture and there are many options. From the falafel to shwarmas, to the special water they start you with - you can't go wrong. If you like Israeli food and a great vibe - this is a must-try. Finally, a great go to spot on the UES! We started with the chickpea hummus. It was excellent. The waitress was very attentive, even asking if we would like some hot sauce to go with the hummus. We took her up on the offer and it was delicious! I thought the hummus was very fairly priced for the amount and quantity. The salmon platter was next and it exceeded all of my expectations. A nice sized filet of salmon, rice and lentils, two lemon wedges, and roasted vegetables all came together to form a very special meal--first time cleaning my plate in a while! I will be going back here frequently. Hard to find an establishment as clean as the Hummus Kitchen that serves such tasty and quality cuisine. Can't wait to go back. read more

Delightful decor, fast, friendly service with intelligent, knowledgeable, helpful, and most importantly accurat responses to menu questions. Delicious, reasonably priced, filling entrees. Much more extensive menu than the name implies. Their "orange" soup is outstanding. Share it or you won't have room for your entree. I had the shakshuka senya--very tasty, but know that it is somewhat spicy. My wife had the chicken couscous. Large portions. You won't leave hungry. Finally, I came in after a doctor's appointment in a less than stellar mood, but left smiling, sated and happy. Thank you Hummus Kitchen. PS. The chocolate mousse is as good as you'll find anywhere. Oh my god. Just wow. What an amazing experience. If you love Hummus, you haven't lived until you eat at HK on the UES. Let me tell you, I've travelled the world. I've had Hummus from Africa to the Mid East, and HK delivers Hummus so good it makes me want to jump a cab, fly to the Mid East, and relive all my adventures again. The falafel - clearly hand rolled, served over a bed of tahini. The schwarma platter - made of a thousand chickens, this is more meat than a man should eat in a sitting. My table of 2 ordered a regular size hummus, roasted eggplant, a half order of Mediterranean chopped salad, and chicken kebabs. Very delicious food, all generous portion sizes. The hummus was fluffy and came with two pieces of warm pita. Although it was half a portion, the chopped salad was filling and we even had leftovers. Great atmosphere and service. The water had a nice tint of lemon and was refilled consistently! The chairs and couch pillows were very comfortable! They played lovely music throughout the meal but the ac was kind of frigid.... Overall great experience at the Hummus Kitchen! Definitely will return and eat more fluffy hummus read more

Hummus Kitchen is one of many restaurants on 2nd Avenue in the 80s. Don't pass by. Stop in and give it a try. The food is really good. My husband is a meat eater and I am a vegetarian and we both have great options. This is a great spot for vegetarians. The soups (we've only had the garden vegetable and cauliflower) do not have chicken stock and are truly vegetarian). The soups are delicious. We had falafel, quinoa tabouleh and babaganoush the last time we went and they were delicious, as well. The place is cute and the staff is really very attentive, friendly and just great. A lovely decorated, homey place that is perfect for a quick and yummy meal. As a group of vegetarians, this place was very vegetarian friendly with many many unique and delicious options! We ordered the Falafel Wrap, a fresh and flavorful option. We also ordered several of the small appetizers, some of our favorites being the grape leaves and quinoa. Service is great! The unique electronic menus make it very easy to order and the waiters were quick to provide us with refills of sauces and anything else we needed. Overall, highly recommend to anyone who is close by in the city! Very good food that you won't regret :) read more

Excellent 'surprise' find!! We were looking for a 'vegan friendly' restaurant and Hummus Kitchen was recommended. Even though it was exceptionally busy for a Sunday evening we were quickly seated and attended to. Cozy decor, lovely knowledgeable staff, and delicious food. We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of vegan/vegetarian options. The vegetable soup was out of this world - tasted just like the soup my mom would make when I was a kid! Though their hummus may be delicious, at least one of their waitstaff is a criminal. My girlfriend and I have had a few meals here, even taking our family and friends, but on our last visit, I left my bag at our table only to return a few minutes later to find the bag and our server gone. When he returned with the bag, the iPad was no longer in it. Once we ruled out any other options and made sure there was no possibility other than theft, the server responded by cooly asking us, 'how would I have done it?' Don't risk your electronics or other valuables here and take your business elsewhere. read more

I love the idea of hummus being one of the main dishes. It was just not something I had ever thought of before. It has a very homey feel, not too business like but not too casual. It was great for a good sit-down after walking. The menus are very modern and it was quite nice that they gave you pictures of the good you would order. I LOVED the aesthetic of the place. Everything from the paint job to the salt shakers. The food presentation was very good. It looked like the meni picture. The food also tasted SO GOOD! I would reccomend this to everyone! DELICIOUS, WORTH EVERY BITE! We used hummus kitchen for our wedding catering and our guests could not stop raving about the amazing food! We even had to-go containers and people took some home! We couldn't be any more satisfied with the customer service from the owner Maor! He was very helpful in choosing selections and portion sizes as we had plenty leftover! Some favorites we had were the babaganoush, fresh salmon, mushroom bureka, Mediterranean chicken, couscous, majadra rice, pita and hummus. Everything here is good!!! I came here when it first opened over a year or two years ago and dined inside. The food was awesome, priced right, the service was great, and since then I have continued to get food from Hummus Kitchen. I have only ever eaten at this Upper East Side location, so this review is really only in reference to this specific UES location. If your looking for a new Mediterranean restaurant on the UES, and do not want to break your wallet, I highly recommend trying this UES Hummus Kitchen location. Hey guys, I have to simply rave about this place. From the food to the atmosphere to the wait staff, everything was phenomenal! We started out with the babaganush which blended the flavor of the eggplant perfectly with the garlic, lemon and tahini. I have had and loved all the hummus plates but the dessert is the best by far. They are all delicious but I have a weakness for Flan so I can't turn away from the Malabi. Overall its a great meal experience. You never feel rushed and the wait staff is attentive. Hummus Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants because of the authentic Mediterranean food offered and also of course because of the excellent service. Speaking of service, no one attends better to the patrons than Chloe who can be seen in the attached picture. She has an incredible ability to engage with the restaurant-goers and make them feel comfortable, as well as provide excellent care and attention to detail. This is one of my go to middle eastern restaurants in the city. I first discovered this restaurant in 2015 in Murray hill and it has never disappointed since. I decided to take my boyfriend to the UES location today and he was blown away with how delicious everything tasted. The food is delicious and service is quick. Very positive environment. One of my favorite dishes is the classic shakshukah and shawarma hummus. This time We ordered the falafel taco and salmon taco.
