Synopsis: Really good. Will probably be my go-to Chinese takeout in Chantilly. Prices are a bit higher than the well-known China King of NoVA. We ordered online for pickup. There are 3 tables in the place, but there are dry supplies stacked against some of the walls and really no space to dine-in. I would consider this a strictly take-out place. We ordered a small hot and sour soup, shrimp fried rice, eggplant in garlic sauce, and twice-cooked pork. The hot and sour soup had a good, flavorful base and lots of ingredients. These included mushrooms, wood ear, tofu, and egg. There were bits of green onions and red chili in it as well. It did not have bamboo shoots or water chestnuts which are sometimes in other preparations. While the taste was good, I feel it could be both tangier and spicier. The eggplant in garlic sauce was good as well. I always go back to this dish and I'll probably keep ordering it going forward. The eggplant was cut into large bite-sized chunks. It was very soft (some might consider it overcooked) but I think the texture is just right. It had a nice garlic flavor but only a hint of spice. As a non-meat dish, I think it's a really good option. The shrimp fried rice was really good and chock full of medium-sized shrimp, along with the standard egg/peas/cubed carrots/diced onions you should find in any good fried rice. This fried rice is two magnitudes more flavorful than what you'll get at, say, Panda Express (whose fried rice is actually tasteless). The twice-cooked pork! That was the star of this meal. I look forward to the traditional flavor profile of this dish whenever I go for Chinese take-out. The sweet, spicy, wok-hei-smokey flavor always gets me excited. While I couldn't really detect much of that last element (and I admit, it's hard to fault take-out restaurants for not being able to impart some good wok hei into their cooking), the overall dish was great! It was jammed with sliced pork and cabbage and some slivered carrots. An interesting but pleasant surprise was the inclusion of mushrooms, green AND yellow bell peppers, AND a few large slices of zucchini. These all added a really good vegetable complement to the pork. Equally surprising was the spice level in this dish. While it wasn't "Thai hot," it delivered heat I'm not used to finding at a lot of these types of places. There were the same bits of red chili flakes in it that I found in the hot and sour soup. But I also found thin slices of jalapeno pepper which really raised the level of this dish. With the loss of China King in the Chantilly (and Herndon) area, Hunan Cafe really does take over that space quite competently if you live close by.

A small carry out spot with a couple of seating for a quick dine in at the corner of the shopping center. I like to come here for the beef noodle soup (clear broth) and also the braised beef noodle soup (spicy) most of their dishes includes ample mixed vegetables which most carry out don't. The food comes out pretty fast and they have a pleasant attitude.

I am writing this review as a reminder for myself. DO NOT GET THE CHICKEN WINGS (not your usual Chinese takeout chicken wings IYKYK). I've tried this place twice now. Once Ubereats and once in person. I don't remember what I order last time cept the ck wings also. Combo fried rice was 4/5 and Singapore noodles are like 3.5/5. Shrimp seemed a bit over cooked in both. Wonton soup is like 3/5 the broth is fine the wontons were not that great. Ck wings are thickly breaded and they seem to have a bit of curry twist to it. 2/5 I like to support local Chinese takeout places but this one is just okay. A bit slow and not much customer service. Just telling you what to expect.

My mom is staying at Inova l Fairfax and we were looking for a place to grab a quick bite to eat. Originally we were looking for another resturant but the place closed at 8:00 which seemed to be usual for this area. We were headed back to the hospital when we saw Hunan Cafe. Now it's more a take out place than a sit in resturant but they do have two or three tables and they provided us with plastic plates and cutlery. The food is delicious. Everything is tasty and fresh and the service is awesome. Everyone was so accommodating and nice. We ordered a whole bunch of dishes but the Mapo Tofu was my favorite. It was just the right amount of spicy. Second was the Mu Shi Chicken also very flavorful and not a greasy mess.

Consistently great tasting and healthy food! Reasonable prices! I've ordered from here MANY times because they offer healthy food options, have a good portion size, use healthy oils and No MSG, and because they are fast! My favorites are the Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables, Singapore Noodles, Shrimp Lo Mein, and Cashew Chicken. I like being able to order online as well. AND, they give the best fortunes in the fortune cookies! The family who runs the restaurant is also very friendly.

Picked up Braised Beef Noodle Soup to eat at home and it was delicious! Very quick made to order and it was piping hot and ready to eat when I came home. I even asked if they had a spicy version and they said they could make it spicy. Will definitely come back to try other food!

I'm not a big fan of tofu but this was delicious. The fish was so soft and the sauce really worked well. Ganghood chicken: our favorite thing on the menu, when it comes to fried chicken I'm a harsh critic. With that being said this was REALLY good fried chicken. Combination Fried rice: it had a mix of shrimp, chicken, beef and egg. It was simple yet flavorful. Shrimp dumplings: A bit bland, would not order again.

Our group of five sampled a great variety from the menu, including the Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin, Crab Roe Soup Dumplings, Cucumber Salad, Lettuce Wraps, Cumin Fish, Stir-Fried Beef Tenderloin, Crispy Pork Ribs with Scallion Crisps and Mixed Grain & Purple Rice, Stir-Fried Beef with Chilies, and Kung Pao Chicken with white rice. The standout for me was the cumin fish. It was fried perfectly--crispy without being greasy--and the cumin added great flavor without overpowering the dish. The crispy pork ribs lived up to their name and had a nice kick of spice. The cucumber salad packed a serious garlic punch, which I really enjoyed. The Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin was something completely different from what I expected. It's sliced into long ribbons that resemble noodles or pasta. The flavor was excellent, although the texture took some getting used to. The only dish that fell a little short was the stir-fried beef tenderloin, which could have used a bit more seasoning. Everything else was delicious. The portions are enormous. At first the prices seemed a little high, but once the food arrived it made perfect sense. Every entrée was easily enough for two meals. One thing to keep in mind is that rice is ordered separately and isn't included with the entrées. Service was excellent throughout our meal. We arrived for lunch and didn't realize they close between lunch and dinner (lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). We ended up staying until about 2:45, and the staff never made us feel rushed even though they had technically closed. They greeted us promptly, took our drink orders, and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu without hovering. The restaurant is tucked away on the ground floor of an office building, so it's easy to drive right past if you aren't looking for it. Parking was plentiful, and the oversized booths comfortably fit all five of us without feeling cramped. If you're dining with a group and want to sample a variety of authentic dishes, Mama Chang is definitely worth the visit.

The place was filling up and the ambiance reminds me of a traditional bustling noodle house - perfect for the cold snap we were experiencing at the time. We got hot and sour noodle soup, sichuan beef noodle soup, and an order of their pork soup dumplings. Portions are generous and prices are fair, it's easy to become a regular here if you live nearby. The hot and sour noodle soup is as advertised - just enough spice to complement the sour, but not overwhelm to make it feel like mala. It's served, as expected, with glass noodles, some bak choi, and some pork slices. Nothing spectacular but par for the course. The sichuan beef noodle foon soup was slight notch better. The broth gives really warm vibe and you can tell it's been brothing for a long time. Again just the right amount of spicy to make you keep slurping for more. The noodles were average, chewy, but not bouncy. Also comes with a healthy amount beef slices and bak choi. Again - a great noodle soup bowl but nothing jaw dropping. Soup dumplings were fantastic, however. The pork definitely has its own marinade and the soup is flavorful. The dumpling skin is well constructed and complemented well with the noodle soups - especially in cold weather. tldr; solid noodle soup spot, they seem to be consistent and really hits the mark when you're in a for your noodle fix. Soup dumplings are probably a must get side dish with whatever your main is

It arrived still crackling on the plate, tender and packed with smoky, slightly sweet flavor. The tofu shrimp dish was another surprise favorite -- light but comforting, with silky tofu and perfectly cooked shrimp that paired really well together. For something more classic, the chicken and string beans hit the mark. The chicken was juicy, the string beans stayed crisp, and the garlic sauce tied everything together without overpowering the dish.
