I've been craving Kung Pao Shrimp all week and my gf and I decided to stop by Hunan Cafe. The food here is so good! The shrimp was the perfect size! I've seen this dish made elsewhere where they would have more ingredients than the actual shrimp. The Crispy Beef was another star of the show. The sauce was just right and the crispiness of it surprised me. The ambiance is like your typical Chinese take out spot but they do have a small seating area. Several of my neighbors recommended Hunan Cafe, so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. I ordered Hot and Sour soup (my bellwether dish for Chinese restaurants) and crispy beef. Both dishes were tasty without being overspiced. The crispy beef had subtle flavors beyond the usual overpowering sweetness that is all too common with other restaurants. When I order from them again, and I will be doing that soon, I think I'll try some of the other dishes, like General Tso's Chicken or Lo Mein, which are favorites among the other reviewers. A local favorite for the family. Conveniently located within the same building next to Dogwood Tavern and Mr Browns Park off Leesburg Pike. Parking can be limited as it is shared with all the surrounding businesses. We always order take-out and from phone call to pick-up, can be a quick process. Clearly this restaurant is set up for take out as the seating is limited and they do not serve your meal on real plates...just styrofoam accompanied by plastic dinnerware. No ice for sodas either. I was very surprised that it was pretty empty, the crab Rangoons were 10/10, very crispy and fresh. My partner loved the egg drop soup. There is nothing special or unique to go there or to crave for but if you're in this area and craving for Chinese American food then this is your Go To Place!! (If you can go to Eden Center then of course there are greater places over there A very nice Chinese American restaurant with a very big menu full of huge selection of different noodles types , rice , different recipes and all kind of meats (pork , beef, chicken , shrimp or seafood). The best Chinese delivery I've had in awhile and we ordered via Grubhub. The Mongolian beef was enough for two meals and was fresh and hot without being greasy. Delivery was fast and friendly, most importantly they got the order correct. Too bad they don't offer brown rice as a side option but maybe they'll add it sometime. read more

A nice and cute little hole-in-the-wall-type Chinese restaurant. The people who work there are fairly nice and I think that the food is average. They only gave me the most basic sauces for my dumplings, but I like my dumplings with more flavorful soy sauce; chopped scallions; fresh grated ginger; white vinegar; and oily hot pepper sauce. I was traveling from out of town and this restaurant was recommended to us for take out, plus it was close to our hotel. I have to say I was impressed with the taste of the food! The Gen Taos Chicken was slammin! The crab rangoons were amazing! Great crunch and very creamy filling! Was not too impressed with the wanton soup. Only 3 wantons in pint of soup and they were very firm/dense. In addition, portions for entrees was very small for the price. Normally when I order Chinese food, you can share with others and that was not the case with their entrees. If you are hungry, it is just enough for one. It's kind of hard to really say "I'm a fan", but considering I haven't found any great places in the Tyson's Corner/Falls Church area, this place stands out from the rest. Triple Delight, and Singapore Noodles were good. Beef Chow Fun was alright. Perhaps because it gets crammed into a plastic container, but the thing ended up as one big noodle blob. Perhaps using a bigger container (such as the slightly bigger triple delight container) would help? As far as taste is concerned, it seemed to be a little bit on the weak side, but that is probably due to them not loading the food with salt. Not sure if MSG is used here, but my guess is no. First time here at Hunan Cafe. The kitchen is busy with workers preparing hot delicious food. Mama-san is directing her staff like a well oiled machine. Mama-san greeted us and took down our order. The restaurant looks like it has been here for several years. The bathrooms have aged with the store. The bathrooms weren't to bad, but an update could be in order in s few years. While waiting for our order, I see the kids of the works are busy doing their homework. When they have a question they don't understand, off to mama they go. When our food arrived, a young lady read us back our order. The order was correct. We will now try the good and see how good it is. Okay, I did not fine the food very good, but it wasn't bad. The medication I have been taking played a small part in this review, but for the most part, I don't see myself coming ba CV k again...but you never know. read more

5:30pm My husband and I are in town for a few days and decided we wanted Chinese food for dinner. As our hotel is just around the corner, we walked over to Hunan and ate in the restaurant. Our order: Vegetable Lo Mein and Sweet and Sour Chicken We enjoyed both entrees and if we lived here would definitely be back. The chicken wasn't overly breaded and the sweet and sour sauce is served in a separate container. Along with the chicken are onions, bell pepper, pineapple and carrots. All fresh and tasty. The Lo Mein was tasty, hot, and delicious. We received one bowl of steamed rice which was plenty. During the time we were in the restaurant at least 4 people came and went picking up TO GO orders. read more

I hope I found a new Chinese take out joint, because this hit the spot. After seeing North China charge up the wazoo for delivery (and also being nasty on the phone), I needed someplace different. For a long time I avoided this restaurant because I thought that they were the same as the other Hunan Cafes I have ordered with in the past. They are not. As I was under the weather Friday with a sore throat and congestion several quarts of Wonton soup were ordered. As was a vegetable-less Lo Mein. First off, the lady on the phone was nicer, and though delivery was slow (granted it was a nasty night), they were accurate in getting to my address. Now, about the food. It was all delivered pretty well! As soon as I saw the takeout cartons and no styrofoam containers I knew there was some hope. The wontons were really tasty and they include in some crispy noodles. Yes! Double yes actually! The Lo Mein was also really promising. It was delivered in a way that locks in that hallmark American-Chinese flavor that it was expected to do what it did, and it did it. I have no idea why this place gets negative reviews. I absolutely love it!!! They do all my favorites exactly as I enjoy them!! Those being the Singapore rice noodles, chicken with cashew nuts, and crab rangoon! I think they do the crab rangoon absolutely perfectly, and I definitely can't say that for most restaurants in this area!! I wish I had pictures to share, but every time I order from here, I am so absorbed into enjoying every bite, that I forget to take photos!! I was really hoping this would be my go to Chinese take out restaurant but unfortunately that was not the case. - General Tso- Way too much breading, barely any chicken inside - Kung Pao Chicken - OK - Combination Fried Rice - No flavor - Hot and Sour Soup - THE worse I've ever had. Good Chinese fast food! Granted, i prefer Mark's Duck House for a sit-down meal, but i find that the portions at Hunan are generous and delicious; my moo shu is always full of vegetables and the pork is tender. Recently i made mooshu at home and sent my husband for pancakes from Hunan. They are thin and soft. Other places have more rustic or country-style pancakes that are yummy with green onion or garlic chives but not nice with mooshu. Totally standard quantity over quality Chinese food. You get a lot of food, but it is pretty damn average. Wonton soup, bland and flavorless... almost no meat in the dumplings. Kung Pao chicken... a weird hybrid of Kung Pao and General Tso. Chicken pieces were oddly cut into tiny cat food-like cubes and tasted cheap and fatty and, like cat food. Not the best. Beef Lo Mein... was actually pretty decent. Prime example of good Chinese fast food. I'd probably get the Lo Mein again if I were in the mood for something easy and lots of it. Fortune Cookies... nobody really eats these, do they? I got two fortunes in each cookie. Same fortune, but double the fortune! The beef broccoli and crab Rangoon was great too. Not a huge drink selection, and the drinks are in the plastic containers only. I would definitely recommend. Only bummer is access and parking. I'm writing this review as I eat my food (takeout). Super nice and very flexible staff. I ordered orange chicken but subbed out the chicken for tofu and asked for fried rice with it. Tofu is delicious. The sauce is also very good. The rice was not fried for even a moment. It was heated up in a pan with some soy sauce. That's not fried rice. The egg rolls at smaller than spring rolls. The pan-fried dumplings taste good but the dough is three times as thick as it should be. As much as I'd like to support this restaurant since it's only a few blocks away, I think next time I'll drive a few blocks further to 7 Corners where there are several highly rated Chinese restaurants.
