Also ordered shrimp lo mein...but that was just lo mein with some large shrimp added to the top. I was expecting the shrimp to be mixed in. The portion sizes where huge so even thought the lo mein wasn't as expected I would still give 5 stars for the tastiness and size for the price. None of the food was too oily and I definitely appreciated that. I have been craving good Chinese take out since moving to DC 6 years ago and have had no luck finding a solid spot. After doing copious research, my friends and I decided to drive 30 minutes into VA to pick up dinner from North China Cafe and it was absolutely worth the trip. Everything was still piping hot (even after the 30 minute drive home) and was fresh. The wonton soup was flavorful and comforting. The garlic eggplant was delicious and saucy. NCC been my go to Chinese delivery place for years. They have great Mushu Pork, egg rolls, general Taos chicken. It's priced inexpensively and they deliver quickly which is huge nowadays. If you order directly from them the lady that fakes her Chinese accent may take your order. It's been cracking me up for years. She may be Chinese but she can speak American with no accent when she wants. So funny. read more

BEST CRAB RANGOONS (IMO) The crab Rangoons are so good here!!! They're super filled and the wrappers are so crispy. The prices have increased slightly over the last several months but the food was very tasty and the portions were still generous. Today I ordered my usual favorites which included General Tso's chicken and hot and sour soup. The soup was still delicious but the portion was decreased by about 33 to 50%. I have been going there for a few years and sometimes its very good and sometimes mediocre. The last time we got take out, about 2 months ago, their prices had really increased, but I understand that because everything is more expensive. The issue was, the food just did not taste good. The meat in the wonton tasted off, the broccoli in the chicken and broccoli was hard to chew and the sauce just wasn't good. Even the Singapore noodles was just not very good. It was a chilly day and I felt hungover and all I wanted some a hot, soul warming soup. And I randomly stumbled across North China Cafe. I ended up ordering an egg drop soup and beef chow fun to go (they only do delivery or togo). Let me tell you that this egg drop soup heals!!!! I felt immediately better and there was a good amount of egg to soup ratio whilst keeping the traditional goopy egg drop soup texture. The soup came with some fried wonton crackers which was so good and came out fresh and warm. Tip: add some chili oil or black vinegar! The service was friendly and everything came out within 10-15 minutes! The beef chow fun ratio for noodle, meat and onions were a bit off but the fact that the egg drop soup was so good... I recently ordered from this restaurant. I ordered directly through them and got delivery. Several days later I looked at my bank statement and saw that I'd been charged twice for the food. I've emailed them and tried calling repeatedly and can't get through to them and no one will return my messages. I've now had to dispute the duplicate charge with my bank. I can't believe how much time I've had to waste for this. I would absolutely never order from this restaurant again and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They clearly aren't trustworthy. This is my go to place for simple take out Chinese food. It's tasty, ingredients are fresh, they don't use MSG or weird meat fillers, and everything is very reasonably priced. They have an area to sit down and eat, but I haven't ever seen anyone dining there. Everyone once in a while when I'm out running errands around dinner time, I get a hankering for General Tso's chicken or Sweet and Sour soup. I'll call in 15-20 mins before and then drive my to pick up. My order is always ready, hot and waiting for me. Portions are more than generous. I've never been able to finish an entire entree even if I'm absolutely starving, so I know to expect leftovers enough for lunch/dinner the next day too. I once ordered three entrees plus some free spring rolls (they have coupons for free food depending on $ spent) for three people. After a feeding frenzy, it looked like we had only made a dent in the mountain of food. I recall they also offer free delivery in a limited area if you spend a minimum amount (which isn't that high) But I think you have to call them directly for that rather than order online? read more

We order from North China Cafe when we want quality, tasty Chinese; however, tonight we were just in the mood for appetizers, so we ordered a sampling of 6 different ones and man were we disappointed! While their main meals are good, we do not recommend the apps, you can tell that the fry oil they use is old and all the food is super oily and taste exactly the same. In fact, don't even bother with the tempura shrimp - it was awful and didn't exhibit anything close to a tempura.
