Our favorite restaurant in Flushing. Love their fish dishes. Lamb is excellent too. Very good price forgot to take pics of all the dishes.

No stars if I could. Awfully oily and salty that left me feeling quite nauseous. Such a shame when you commute from the city to flushing you have high expectations.

This is one of my go-to places in Flushing. I can't believe that I haven't reviewed it yet. It is located on Northern Blvd, a bit outside of the main downtown area of Flushing, as such, we never have to wait long for a table. The restaurant may not look much on the outside, the interior is quite different. The decor is understated for Chinese restaurant standards and well maintained. The staff is friendly (again, for Chinese restaurant standards), helpful and responsive. Most importantly, the food is consistently good, I have not been disappointed by a dish here yet. Hunan cuisine is known for its spicy flavor, however, we tried a few non-spicy dishes here, and they did not disappoint. Some of my favorite dishes here are: Spicy Beef Tendon & Ox Tongue and Tripe with Spicy Peppery Sauce - not for the faint of heart. These dishes are definitely spicy and the ingredients could be a bit strange for those not familiar with Chinese cuisine. These two are the quintessential southern Chinese appetizers, they are great with beer or rice. Cucumber Salad - a good dish to help cut the spiciness of the other dishes. The cucumber salad here is well made with the perfect amount of crunchiness and sourness. Beef with Spicy Green Pepper - one of my go-to dishes. I love the tenderness and robust flavor of the beef. I have to admit that I usually pick out the peppers because I am too chicken to eat them. However, I love how the peppers give the beef the perfect amount of spiciness. Water Spinach Root - Definitely order this dish if you see it on the menu. They take the leaves out of water spinach, leaving only the roots and chop them up into tiny pieces. It is the perfect dish to pair with fatty meat, mapo tofu or just rice. I have tried to replicate this dish at home and it is a lot of prep work. If you only get one vegetable, get this one. String Beans - a seemingly simple dish, but well executed. The outside of the string beans are crunchy, while the inside is soft. Some places drench the string beans in oil in order to sear the outside, but that's not the case here. Lamb with Cumin Flavor - another go-to dish. I've always try to order the lamb if I see it on the menu. The lamb is well seasoned but not over-powered by the cumin. Overall, most of the dishes here are pretty good, if you are in doubt, just ask the servers, they will help guide you through the menu. They definitely cater to a more Chinese crowd, as such, the kitchen is not shy with the spices, so be prepared!!

Really good Hunan cuisine here. And great for bumping into friends you haven't seen in years =P We were a party of 3, but coincidentally, our table was right next to an old friend and his acquaintance. The staff were so nice to accommodate us on Christmas Eve and found a bigger round table to seat all of us (and move their food to the new table since they've started eating already). 1. Mao's Braised Pork - delicious and juicy. For anyone that loves fat and not afraid of chunky bacon. 2. Mapo Tofu - I think this was the best mapo tofu I ever ate. The tofu is silky and smooth, wrapped in a thin layer of tofu skin to keep the tofu intact (formed when fried?). 3. Pumpkin Cakes - it tasted better last time. This one was a bit soggy. Too much water content before frying. 4. Fish Filet - Fresh, smooth, delicate, and no bones! A bit spicy too. 5. Water Spinach - it taste good. This place is awesome. I don't understand why my Mom doesn't like Hunan food.

Thank you Michelin guide for leading me to the best chinese restaurant I've ever been to in NYC, and certainly the most authentic hunan food I've had outside of China. If you come here be prepared to endure some spice, because this stuff will definitely make you sweat. Not wanting to try the basic stuff like Mapo Tofu, we branched out and had: - Tofu in chili sauce (including an insane amount of minced garlic) - Lamb with cumin, cooked with peppers and cilantro (wow!) - Shrimp in Hunan sauce - Water spinach sauteed with fermented tofu Everything was awesome, and in city where you have to struggle to find spicy chinese and thai food, the spice was very welcomed. I'm looking forward to coming back with a larger group and trying more dishes, like the Mao's braised pork and the braised fish that everybody raves about.

I wonder if LeVar Burton would like this dish?

Incidentally, don't bother with the corn w/ some kind of seed. You barely found any seed and the corn was lackluster at best.

Starting off, the numbing szechuan chicken was my least favorite of the dishes - the pieces of chicken were really tiny and there were a lot of peppercorns. I wish they made the pieces of chicken slightly larger as it was irritating to slowly pick it out towards the end of finishing it. Now, what went well were the stone pot with the fish. Normally not a huge fan of fish, so if I can enjoy eating fish a place has done well in preparing it. The soup was really flavorful and everyone at my table enjoyed it. The sweet and sour pork was also nice. The breading was crispy and the sauce had a nice tangy flavor to it and the texture was interestingly satisfying. The grilled beef ribs and bao buns were one of my favorite. The beef rib was very tender and went well with the buns and condiments that were provided.

Lemon water at your table. The appetizers were just ok, fried pork lacked much flavor and the brown sugar glutinous rice cake wasn't as good as elsewhere. Free side dishes of black mushrooms (not much flavor) and the pickled daikon (this was good, a little spicy). The aromatic hot oil and suancai fish was excellent, more than enough for one person (plus maybe one). You can swap out the two veggies with other choices but I liked the lettuce and baby nappa. Golden soup suancai and fish was more sour for those who liked it that way - tomato looked good, too, fragrant (not spicy). The spicy on the others was just a light spice, more ma la than anything. Everyone gets a bowl of rice, and they have a gift card deal - buy $300 and get $50 free. Plus free meal on your birthday, and some discounts on Tuesdays or Wednesdays? Check the signs. Seats filled up quickly on a weekend and they were packed - come early and enjoy. The double serving for two was smaller than a single serving for one, so just get two if you have two good sized appetites. Single unisex bathroom, and the tables have drawers with paper napkins. Drinks - eh, pass, had better elsewhere. They did forget a dish, but that's ok, we were reasonably full.

Con about this is, I didn't realize there would be a wait so I didn't bother making reservations on Google so we had to wait 40 mins. No seats so we decided to go hang out at tangram while we waited and waiting for her text/call. The little one has been hyped up so much from mukbangs that she's constantly craving crawfish. I mentioned to her that a couple places in Flushing sell crawfish Chinese style and she wanted to try. Did a search on Yelp and saw someone recently raved about the crawfish here. Every order of crawfish comes in 2lbs and we ordered the spiced flavored one. This crawfish gets an A++. Little one loved the flavors and freshness. So tasty. Not only that, but these were probably the biggest crawfish we've ever seen! Even the claws had meat! We also loved how they chopped off the top of the head to removed the "filter". We also ordered a couple small dishes to try. For cold apps we ordered the pigs ear and okra. We love the crunchy texture of the pigs ear and the more we ate it, the more addicting it got to eat. Okra was also a bit. For the skewers, we ordered the lamb beef and intestine. Honestly the lamb and beef skewers were probably the worst ones we've ever tried. It was a struggle to finish them. The meat was tasteless, hard and overcooked. No fat ratio at all. The pig intestines were perfectly cooked. Love when it's crispy. We love finding a place that's been around that's actually a huge hit for us. We will be back. If you spend $120, they will gift you a huge carafe of passion fruit tea.
