A few favorites: house crispy chicken, moo shu beef, egg rolls, wonton soup, and sweet and sour soup, amongst others!! :) After being seated you are greeted with a pot of yummy hot tea and "crispies" with dip, included with your meal! LOVE this perk!! Adding a soup to your entree is highly recommended, their soups are so, so good!! We love both the egg rolls and the crab meat Rangoons - it's hard to choose!! The egg rolls come out so fresh and hot you can't even eat it right away - love this so much!! We've had many of their entrees over the years and everything has been very good! One of the best, if not THE best places for Chinese food in SW Michigan. Carry out or eat-in, you will not be disappointed with their menu. They have a separate menu that is authentic and traditional Chinese dishes so ask for that and they are happy to grab one for you. They have the usual, "American" Chinese food on their menu. We came for lunch and they have Luncheon specials. Entree, soup (egg drop, hot and sour, or wonton), fried rice and choice of crab rangoon or eggroll. read more

The lunch specials are phenomenal. You get your choice of soup - egg drop, wonton or hot and sour. Plus either egg roll or crab rangoons. Then your choice of entree. After tax they are less than $12. What a deal! The Mongolian beef was tender in a rich and tasty sauce. Many places will skimp on the meat and give you mostly onions, but not here. The meat to onion ratio is fantastic. When you meet the host/hostess at Hunan Gardens, request that your waiter NOT be Alex, ask for Mitch or someone else. During a slow lunch period on 06/02/26 Alex took over 30 minutes to get food on our table of 4 people. When asked what took so long he snapped, "It's only been 10 minutes." It had been approximately 35. He was unprofessional by walking by the table and asking if we needed anything and not actually stopping to check. The other waiter, Mitch, who has taken good care of us in the past, actually did refills for us. Good restaurant, but Alex should definitely not be a waiter. read more

We took our son for Sunday lunch because he had never been before He & I both had sumbgum (has shrimp, beef & chicken) with egg drops soup and rangoons. He loved it!! Hubby had chicken chop suey with an egg roll and egg drop soup Everything is always hot and very good. I think it's the best egg drop soup I've had. The rangoons are right up on the ratings also. The best (authentic) Chinese food in Kalamazoo hands down, and I'm Chinese (American). Been coming here for all 4 years of grad school and it has satisfied many a Chinese food craving when it strikes. Reminds me of home. I probably would've suffered immensely from authentic Chinese food deprivation if it weren't for Hunan Gardens. That sounds dramatic but it's true. Anyways, food is great. There's a red/authentic menu that you can request that has the extra good stuff. My favorites include the stuffed eggplant with minced pork, roast duck noodle soup, mixed vegetables, and fish fillets. But I really haven't had a bad dish. Food flavors were very nice, although the waiter told me the Chicken dish I ordered was spicy, but I didn't think so. The soup choices were great as well. With your lunch menu choices you receive soup and either homemade egg roll or Crab Rangoon. The Crab Rangoon was probably the best I have ever had. My kiddo wanted to come here for lunch and we weren't sure if we've been here before! It was about a 10 minute wait, as the first wave of the lunch rush left, no problem. The vestibule was a little crowded, and even then it still was quite quiet. We dug right into the crisps on the table waiting for us and the robot brought us water and hot tea right away. The staff was very attentive (order taking, water refill, bill). He got egg drop soup (he wasn't keen on the texture), and I got hot and sour. Our food came out hot and yummy, and we had to share (cuz that's what we do), and we both still had leftovers. Yum. We will totally go back. read more

First time to visit this restaurant and it won't be the last. We ordered fride rice with chicken, beef and shrimp. And noodles with beef and chicken Tge noodles was good, well seasoned and a decent portion. The rice was not bad, it was good portion as well. It just needed more salt and less soy sauce. My husband and I went in last night we were seated and handed 2 menus with the complimentary water and hot tea and we sat there 10 minutes with several waiters walking by us but never one acknowledged then a group of people walk in are seated and within a few minutes a waitress walks up and takes their order so we wait another 5 minutes thinking maybe we have a different waiter but nobody ever came or acknowledged us. We decided to walk out and call the manager who wasn't apologetic and said they were having a shift change to which we explained how the people who walked in 10 minutes after us were acknowledged and got their order taken and how we seen many of the same waiters walking past us for 15 minutes but he didn't care and wasn't nice about our experience. I ate here for the first time in 2007 and I've been coming back every chance I get. Even after moving out of state for 10 yeasts, this is still my favorite Chinese restaurant. The service is great. The restaurant is clean. The food comes out hot and FRESH. The portion sizes are generous and the pricing is great. I always order the chicken broccoli dish. Our food arrives about a half hour later, feels like I've been probably sitting out for about 20 minutes before we got it, soggy, and cold. If you come here, only get take takeout, never eat inside. I recently read a cozy mystery where the main character was talking about sautéing scallops. So, I was hungry for scallops. I asked out waiter Oscar if there were any scallop dishes without heat. It's one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in town. I always know how the food is going to taste and it's always good. My son loves their egg drop soup and usually orders 2 bowls. The size of the place is also great because it's so large, you can usually get a table pretty quickly. Except if you go on Christmas Day!)
