I read someone's review that stated the crab rangoons were offensively bad, and I wish I had listened to them because I agree wholeheartedly. I had the lunch orange chicken that also came with fried rice. The orange chicken was decent but I wasn't a fan of the fried rice. Although the fried rice wasn't as bad as the crab rangoons, it didn't taste that great. I was also not happy that I was charged a processing fee and a convenience fee. I placed the order online and paid with a credit card. Those fees, no matter how nominal, (I was charged $1.63) should be disclosed up front. I went there with high expectations, ordering two beef meals that were served as beef but we're clearly chicken made to look like beef. The fried rice that came with my general tso chicken was particularly white rice as if it was not mixed together. This place has WAY too high a staff turnover and they will likely screw up your order - then refuse to refund. It takes them 29 minutes to take your order, and the person answering often has to back to the kitchen to translate. They'll tell you you can't have what you last ordered - even though you ordered it recently ( especially true if you want steamed, vs. fried). They're not cheap, either. Food was good. I ordered King Pow Chicken which was all white meat, it came with fried rice and an egg roll plus water which was 8.32 with tax. Kung Pow Chicken has peppers, onion, peanuts and celery. Fried rice had egg, onion and peas. Even dining in it comes in take out container. Good place for take out or delivery. read more

I keep giving this place a chance and the last time it was too bad to withstand. Previous orders were mediocre and fair for the price but this time was nothing but disappointing. Entrees were soggy and soupy and overcooked; mind you I live a two-minute drive away, it's not like you can blame the travel time. Fried pot stickers were undercooked wads of dough. My standards are high, China Town in NYC was a normal part of my life. I would walk right on through, left hand in my Dad's right as I learned to keep the pace as all the people bustled to and fro. I say if you are looking for the basics, this place isn't terrible. If your palette is anything like mine, where the fried rice is a bit more al dente, and your general tso has got a bit more spice, you will not find that here. I say default to steamed rice, bring your own sweet, spicy sauce and don't be upset because this is what we got. You won't find fried baby shrimp alone on the menu, and some of you might be okay with that, I wasn't, BUT... when you call and ask about it, and they tell you a place where you might be able to find it - that's solid customer service. They earned another star based on that ALONE. They've never been late, they always overestimate my time, so they exceed my expectations frequently, and they have never messed up my order. Rice Kitchen has saved me from many a hungry day. I've only come here for their lunch special general tso's chicken, and it is pretty good. The chicken is usually tender with a good amount of sauce that is tasty and a little spicy. The fried rice isn't the best, but it does its job. For the lunch special, you also can't beat the price. I can't really say the same for dinner, though. Don't go in expecting the best Chinese food ever. It isn't. I've had to switch Chinese restaurants too many times. First, Shanghai Imperial closed (we had our wedding dinner there), then Panda Forest closed. What is a sodium addict to do? Go to Rice Kitchen, I suppose. I first tried it at work because they are close and they deliver. I love the Grub Hub app, and regular order from here for pick up and delivery. I love the concept of ordering and paying from my phone. Who wants to talk to anybody anyway? The food is very good and has softened the blow of my past heartbreaks. I don't understand the high ratings. I typically eat Chinese food whenever I travel on business and this really was sub par. The egg roll was basically cabbage in an egg roll wrapper that was obviously cooked in oil that wasn't hot enough as it was dripping oil as I took my one and only bite. This is tough to write because I love their sesame balls that no other Chinese place in Kzoo makes. However I'm very disappointed with them after Christmas Eve this year. They completely messed up my order and my kids didn't eat anything. I ordered orange chicken and got cashew chicken- I ordered pork with eggplant and got pork egg foo young. I even read my order back and they still messed it up. I called and spoke with a nice younger man, who said he would talk to owner and call me back in 15-30 mins. Never got a call back. Never got any of the money back. My kids ate rice for dinner. Was supposed to be a special Christmas Eve feast. Will not order again unless they rectify their mistakes! read more

I have not ordered from this restaurant before and the environment is not impressive. However, I was delighted to find the food is delicious! I ordered hot and sour soup and szechuan shrimp. The soup was not great, lacked flavor but the shrimp was one of the best dishes I've ever had. Nor only was it a very generous portion, but it was piping hot, spicy and flavorful. I blindly moved to a random apartment in Kalamazoo, and it first I was thrilled to find that Rice Kitchen was located (literally) right next door. Now, I am not so happy about living so close. Rice Kitchen is a great place to eat at when you're craving Chinese. I have only ever gotten takeout from them and they always deliver in a timely manner and their takeout containers are very nice.
