We really enjoyed our lunch here today. I had the Spicy Miso Ramen and it was wonderful. Spicy but not crazy hot. Delicious broth, noodles, mushrooms and bamboo. And a surprisingly delightful pork. My bride had the vegetarian creamy ramen. She loved it, especially the broth. Tons of veggies. It was a big serving, she couldn't even finish it all. We shared an order of Spring Rolls too. I've been working in Kalamazoo recently and have been getting done around dinner time, so I decided to stop in to Motea House & Ramen before heading back to Grand Rapids. It's near the highway so it was a convenient stop. It's located in a strip mall with a lot of other businesses and plenty of parking. The restaurant was clean and quiet with only a few other patrons inside. They have an ordering kiosk but I like to get recommendations, so we ordered at the counter. They have a "value basket" ramen combo that comes with a choice of ramen and a drink which is a great deal at about $16. I chose the spicy tonkotsu ramen and Nate got the traditional shoyu ramen. The employee recommended the house milk tea and the strawberry green tea, so we went with those. The employee was super polite and friendly and asked if we had a military or student ID, so I assume they have discounts available. The food was presented really nicely in large bowls. The toppings on my bowl were plentiful, including a whole soft boiled egg cut in half, fish cake, bamboo, pork, and nori. The serving size was generous and we could've shared one bowl but I was pretty hungry. The broth was creamy and rich, with a bit of spice. I really enjoyed the pork, which was much more flavorful than I'm used to. Nate mentioned that his egg was basically hard boiled, so that was kind of a bummer as mine was nicely cooked. The noodles were a bit clumped together, but they were cooked well and not mushy. The teas were both great but I really liked the strawberry green tea, which had strawberry puree/jam. The boba in my drink were the perfect chewiness. I'm really glad we got to try this spot and would definitely come back as they have a lot of great appetizer options like dumplings, Taiwanese crispy chicken, and takoyaki. read more

A pretty decent ramen place. I was perplexed to see that they had a giant robot kiosk to place an order with, perhaps due all the people here writing bad reviews regarding service, though there was a young lady at the table asking if she could help and repeatedly insisted, asking if I needed help - which was nice, but the kiosk was pretty straight forward. I got the tonkotsu ramen, and it was pretty good! It is on par with some of the better ramens in Kalamazoo. They didn't try to put wacky or crazy stuff in it like kiwi or cilantro or anything weird - just a real. classic. bowl. of. ramen. Every ramen place (even in Japan) usually have one stronger focus point of their ramen, and this place's focus was their meat, it was pretty good. The pickled bamboo was standard, naruto was standard, noodles were standard, eggs were a smidge overdone, the broth was good and the meat was good. I'd say if you want ramen, definitely go to this place, as they are pretty darn close to the real thing. They aren't anything extravagantly fancy, but if you want a near traditional bowl of ramen, they got you covered. read more

When I indicated I was Vegan for medical reasons, they were very receptive to my concerns. The owner came out and talked with me to make sure that what they were making was compliant with my needs. Even though the "Creamy Vegan Ramen" indicates "Vegetarian Soup Base", they assured me that it was Vegan. They also informed us that both the Miso and Spicy Miso Broth are Vegan and the order can be customized to omit the included Meat & Eggs. Even though they charged us the same price as the non-Vegan Ramen, we asked them if they would include extra Noodles and Vegetables and they did at no charge. Both the Creamy Vegan Ramen and Spicy Miso Ramen were rich and flavorful. The cashier who took our order had such a positive energy. She was friendly and delightful with everyone who entered. We didn't order any Bubble Tea, however, they showed us on a couple of the packages that SOME of the "Milk" Tea is Non-Dairy. I wish they would indicate on the menu which Tea is Dairy-Free. Even though you can order and pay for your meal at the kiosk, I recommend paying at the cashier, so you can specify and be assured that what you are ordering is Vegan. read more

With the new snow outside both my husband and I decided definitely a ramen day! Fellow Yelper, Rob, had suggested this place so we thought we'd give it a shot. I ordered the miso ramen with chicken instead of the pork. Husband ordered their Taiwanese crispy chicken with side of fries. We were pleased with both! In fact, husband wanted to try their regular chicken ramen (not miso, which also had different veggies) and as good as it was, we both agreed the miso was the better choice. My ramen was part of a combo of ramen and a medium boba of my choice. I chose the regular milk tea boba...which is usually my favorite. The boba bubbles were perfectly chewy and delicious. Not hard and weird. The milk tea was perfectly sweet and comforting. I will be back to get that combo soon! read more

Been here several times now. Love this bubble tea. My favorite thing to get - smoothies!!! They make them with FRESH fruit! Banana mango is my go to and you gotta add the boba to it. The avocado is nice. The motea fruit tea was refreshing - they use real fruit in it and it has a sweet and slightly tart flavor. The bubble tea is bomb. This is a nice spot to hang out and share a meal with friends. The spicy ramen is great, it definitely all clears your sinuses. Orders are promptly brought out not long after either placing it through kiosk in store or at the counter. The milk boba definitely helps soothe a spiced out mouth. read more

First time walking in, super excited to try out a newish Ramen place. Menu looked simple enough and it was very clean inside. Problem I had was with service the second I walked in. The young gentleman who greeted me from behind the counter, in my opinion, was not knowledgeable about the menu nor excited about the food. I decided to go next door to the Sports Pub and eat, where I know the staff loves the food. Finally, a decent ramen joint in town! The stores was clean, the staff were welcoming and helpful, and service was quick. We tried the shoyu and tonkotsu ramens, steamed dumplings, and Taiwanese fried chicken. Both the appetizers were good. I would have preferred the chicken to be more mala (spicy and tingly), but I can see how this would appeal to a broader palette. Delightfully, the ramen got to our table piping hot, which is a rarity in the states. Noodles were perfectly done, the soup was good, and the chashu pork was flavorful. It's a casual setting and not a fancy dining experience but in its category it's good because it uses high quality food ingredients and does not use cheap oil. You can just taste and tell the difference. They also have a vegan ramen options which was surprisingly good. For meats, i found the pork belly ramen the best. You can also customize your ramen with extra ingredients or take off ingredients you do not like which was also useful. read more

I will say the food here was amazing. But the person who works in the front taking orders seems nice at first but I pray for your sake, you don't slip up. My dad accidentally ordered the wrong thing and was lectured in a stern tone about his ramen choices. After we finished eating, we were clearing our plate while being watched by the same person and we accidentally threw away the cheap plastic chop sticks. We were then rushed by the worker as they dug said chopsticks out of the trash telling us "you can't throw them away" and pointing to two hand written signs, "it says it here... and here" By the workers attitude, we weren't the only people to throw them away. I am a frequent visitor at Motea and am always satisfied the food is great and normally the service is too, well unfortunately I went in this evening and the service wasn't great the lady was rude, impatient and acted like she was ignoring me while taking my order.. I thought maybe she was having a bad day until she got my order wrong and even then when I came back in to tell her my order was wrong she was still rude.
