Ok first off never been here before but wanted to try it. We called for pick up, lady was very nice, food was ready for pick up when the time came. However when we went home and I went to transfer some food to a plate at home we found a bug in the food. Hopefully this is a one off but still i was disheartened.

    Inside Interior

The foods taste / flavoring was very average nothing special. I would compare the quality to Panda Express and is over priced for the taste and size portions. The customer service was very friendly. I ordered takeout at 9pm even though they close at 8pm they still served me. I did get sick/ food poisoning after but not sure from what dish (orange chicken, fried rice, soup, or wonton/egg roll)

    Spicy honey chicken (Orange Chicken)

Excellent food. Our family really enjoyed the food along with the great services. Highly recommended!

    Free orange jello for dessert...yes!

Love me some Chinese, and I seek out everywhere that serves it up. Unfortunately, Hunan Yuan is a little better than Hell No. Located in a large strip mall, in-between Sushi Oaks and Jeanette's Edelweiss, it's got a Panda on the outside window. That's a good comparison, actually. Panda Express food with a better cuter face. A 30+ year old restaurant evidently was recently remodeled. Who remodeled it? Perhaps a great grandma, it has that kinda feel. Very clean inside, and very nice service -- that's the best thing I have to say about Hunan Yuan. My gf and I were the only diners. We ordered a good sampling. Prices are on the high side ($11-17 per entree), and small portions. Not impressed. 1. Moo Goo Gai Pan [$11.45, 2.5 stars] -- small portion, no pea pods (very common for this dish), chicken was okay but didn't taste fresh. 2. Black Pepper Beef [$12.45, 4.0 stars] -- very good flavor, I liked this dish, king for the night. 3. Shrimp Fried Rice [$9.95, 2.5 stars] -- again, not fresh. Light on the shrimp, oily, and half the portion of anywhere else. 4. White Rice [$free, 1.0 stars] -- very dry, not fresh. Bottom line, this 30+ year place only has 37 reviews? Why? Yelpers aren't going here, and I don't recommend. I do recommend: Sesame Inn (a couple of miles away in NB), Golden Dragon (in nearby Thousand Oaks) or Lakeview Garden Restaurant (Westlake Village). Sorry Charlie, Hunan Yuan doesn't work for me.

Another delicious meal from Sesame Inn!…read more We've lived in the Suntree neighborhood in Newbury Park for 23 years, and have really enjoyed food from Sesame Inn (3327 Kimber) recently. Sesame Inn was owned for a long time by Jennifer and Paul, but went through two changes of ownership once they retired. A new couple, Ling and Shao Yung, now own Sesame Inn, and have kept the original recipes. The restaurant is currently carry-out only. Ling handles the phone and Shao Yung runs the kitchen. They're delightful! We've ordered most things on the menu (including the "secret" menu), but keep gravitating towards our favorites. Whenever we have out-of-town guests that have been here before, they always ask for carry-out from Sesame Inn. - 5 stars!

The shop has a few small tables situated, but found the floors dirty in multiple places and the overall smell was just not pleasant for such a small place. The table service was handled by an older woman, who may have been the manager. She was rude and curt towards us. When we were finished with our small bowl of the Asian style crunchy noodles and smaller bowl of duck sauce, we asked for more, and she informed us that we would have to buy a bag of noodles for $7 dollars. This is after we were seated and ordered our dinner. The orange chicken was over-fried and lacked taste, while my sweet and pungent shrimp was super soggy, almost relying on the sauce to act as the seasoning. Our pot stickers were ok .. but not great. They also had little to no flavour / seasoning .. and were dried out .. possibly over cooked, as well. I'm unsure if new management acquired this business, but it was not this way a few months ago. Seems like this place is beginning to penny pinch on the small things to save/make a few extra bucks. I so hope this place improves or turns around as I will check in now and again for good news! Thanks !

No biggie - patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you had in mind. I had to write a review because I knew one particular person was going to tarnish them because they didn't have that patience. As I suspected, he did. See the other review entry for today. It's definitely him. Let me share with you the chain of events I witnessed that allowed me to connect the dots so I can likely assume was him. With us other patrons waiting so patiently, because again, the manager was sharing with us how they were looking and was super apologetic. One can only tell you 10-15 mins but hey I knew I wasn't the only one there. Except for this guy who believed he was the only patron and should have been waited on hand and foot. He says 45 mins. I call BS. I was there. At the end of it all, he and his party walked out because 10-15 mins in a restaurant with patrons eating in and taking out was "too long." Thank goodness. Plus his attitude to some of the patrons was gross. The cherry on top was he was honking his horn to Mandarin Bistro for some reason as he was driving away. Um ok? In conclusion to that fool, YOU want private dining, stay your ass at home. For the rest of the Yelpers, if you want amazing chinese food while supporting small business in Newbury Park, I highly recommend Mandarin Bistro with utmost enthusiasm!

Was surprised to find such an authentic spot for Chinese in Oak Park!…read more I came by for a Mother's Day lunch with my family. When we arrived around 1 pm, the restaurant was maybe half full. But clearly it was popular as people were coming in constantly the entire time we were eating. Even though the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, most of the dishes on the menu were more like Sichuan dishes i.e. spicy. All of the food was super solid and portions were ginormous. My recommendation is to order 1 dish per person if you want leftovers, or order one less dish than the # of people if you want to finish most of the food. I don't handle spice very well, so we ordered a mix of spicy and non-spicy dishes. We shared the following: #1 Yunan rice noodles ($16.99) #32 scallion pancake ($8.99) #104 Chong qing fried chicken ($16.99) #107 braised pork belly with buns ($19.99) #109 boiled two items - fish and duck blood ($21.99) Given that the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, we felt like we had to order one of the most popular dishes from that region, the Yunan rice noodles i.e. crossing the bridge noodles. I really enjoyed the silky smooth mixian noodles as well as the flavorful broth. The fried chicken was too spicy for me; I ate one piece and my whole mouth was on fire. Everyone else said it was quite spicy as well, so eat this in moderation unless you can really handle your spice. The 3 pepper signs next to this dish on the menu are no joke! The braised pork belly was delicious, but portions were on the smaller side for this one. Still, I enjoyed making a little bun sandwich with the pork belly and pickled veggies. The boiled fish and duck blood was also super solid. It was just a little spicy, so I was able to manage a couple pieces with the help of rice on the side. Portions were very generous for this dish. We all ate lots of fish and duck blood and still had a ton left to take home. They also have some precooked 涼菜, i.e. cold dishes, on the side you can buy for dine-in or to go. We got 3 of the meats - pork tongue, pork head, and and beef tripe, to go. Paid $16.99 for a huge box of these meats. We thought this was a steal too. Can't wait to try some at home!

The inside is adequately lit, simply decorated, and had some background music playing--nothing distracting, though not particularly atmospheric. I was served immediately. I ordered the curry chicken, which arrived piping hot and came with a complimentary half‑pint of white rice. I appreciate this, since many places now charge extra for rice. The rice itself was cooked perfectly, was aromatic, flavorful, and fluffy. The curry sauce was tasty, the vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the "extra spicy" request was taken seriously. My only disappointment was the addition of pineapple. I enjoy pineapple, just not in my curry chicken. The dish's ingredients were not listed on the menu. Overall, it was very good, and I'll be returning to try their Wonton Soup and Shrimp in Lobster Sauce next time.
