Next time, I'm getting the pineapple spare ribs!!!!

Fellow Yelpers!!! Have you ever thought that you had previously reviewed a place and then years later returned to that same establishment/place of business and said to yourself... "Let me look at my review of this place and see what I said way, back, when." Well, believe it or not... This happened to me at this exact place... Bangkok Avenue located on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Years ago, when Bangkok Avenue first opened, my wife and I were excited that a new Thai spot had hit the Blvd....errr the Avenue ;) (See what I did there??) So one day, many moons ago we popped in and had an excellent meal here. We even got Thai here a few times to-go and enjoyed it at home. Personally, I swore I had written a stellar review for this place, but apparently I had not. Despite loving this place, we have a Thai place that's a bit closer to us so we've opted to go to that "other place" instead when we are in the mood for Thai. Fast forward to this past April (2025), my oldest daughter had a performance that was being held at the neighboring Thousand Oaks Civics Arts Plaza. Before the evening performance, we knew we wanted to grab dinner so I was like what about Bangkok Thai, we haven't been there in years. So we pulled up, walked in and it's like we never left. In same spot, with the same vibe serving up the same delicious food, I remember why I liked this place so much. While eating, I told my wife, why did we stop coming here? Then I decided to go on Yelp to see my previous review..... Wait? What?? Where's my review??? Oh crap....... I DIDN'T WRITE ONE!!!!!! Well Bangkok Avenue...... This review is long overdue, but don't fret, I gotchu! When it comes to Thai... We seem to be creatures of habit. Meaning no matter which Thai spot we end up at, more than likely we will be ordering the same exact dishes. And trust, Bangkok Ave is no different. Our Go-To's: -Crispy Egg Roll with sweet & sour sauce -Fresh Rolls with house made peanut sauce -Sa-Te Chicken with peanut sauce & cucumber salad -Pad Thai with Shrimp -Tom Kha (coconut soup) -Pineapple Curry with chicken (Mild of course, we are soft haha) -Thai Iced Tea with Boba And of course.... -Mango Sticky Rice (when it's in season). Sure, we don't get all of these every single time, but these are our staples and you can't go wrong with these classic Thai dishes. What I Love about this place..... Bangkok Thai, although small.... It's MIGHTY!!! Their food is packed with a PUNCH and their service is all about Thai HOSPITALITY. So.... If you are a local or even live in the neighboring area and you want some delicious Thai right on the Main Boulevard...... Get your Mango Sticky Rice Buns over to.... Bangkok Thai!!!!

I have tried so many different Thai places around this area, and Bangkok Avenue remains my favorite. This time around I got the pad see ew with tofu, crab rangoons, and the cha ma nao. The pad see ew was good, I have yet to have an entree here that I didn't enjoy. The cha ma nao was only alright, I would probably return to the classic thai tea next time (which I do love). Great experience regardless!

solid thai place especially in an area lacking good asian food. Enjoyed the drunken noodles and the garlic pepper beef.

I think we finally found a Thai Restaurant here in Ventura County. We normally drive to Sawtelle when we crave for Thai food. We're so glad we visited this charming place and tried their over the top food! First thing I wanted to say is their overly, savory, crispy chicken wings! My new benchmark! I thought Samenza's in Reno, NV has the best chicken wings but this place had me on my first bite! Amazing!! Their Tom yum, Pad see ew, fried rice, and Pad prik king were exceptionally delicious! The flavor was very umami and I could tell it was cooked really well. The service was excellent! Plenty of parking and easy to locate. We came just the right time because the place got packed really quick. Highly recommended!

The service is fantastic, the dining room is spacious, yet intimate. During dinner service, the place feels warm and alive. Most importantly, their food is consistently hitting above the mark. Super fresh and delicious, they've got many healthy options, and their fried menu items don't make you feel bad about yourself. That mango sticky rice with the lil coconut syrup keeps me wanting more!

Solid 4 stars. Have been here many times. The service is good, food is good. The eggplant dish was a bit overcooked (eggplant falling apart). But otherwise an excellent neighborhood Thai place.

This place is the best and only place I come to for medium spicy chicken drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice with shrimp and chicken. I've been coming here for years and I noticed that the amount of chicken pieces are reducing. The taste, price, and to go packaging have all remained the same, but you get less of the chicken. The last two times I've gotten the drunken noodles, I was disappointed because I was consuming way too many carbs and very little to no protein. Next time I order, I'll have to tell them over the phone so they don't give me less than before or I start looking for a new place..

I think it's the best Thai restaurant in the Conejo. Most Thai restaurants all taste alike, and the menus are boringly the same.

But it is REALLY loud. There were maybe 9 people in there and you had yell at the person next to you because it's all concrete and metal. Not sure who thought this would work but it definitely does not. Also doesn't look like anyone had a plan of what they wanted the space to be. Live music? DJ? The acoustics are going to be awful. It's a massive space with a bunch of tables and nothing else. It's quite simply just odd. As for the food, it's not good. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Pretty bland and nothing is fresh. It's also outrageously overpriced. Chicken fajitas were meh and they were $27.00. We got shrimp and they were rubbery and came in a plastic bag, which was in a bucket. Weird. Also, no silverware. Only plastic. Just a headscratcher all around. The website says they have happy hour but they didn't have a separate menu. Just two dollars off drinks is what w were told. Probably why it was empty at 5:30. Also weird. They have this huge space and don't seem to have any idea what to do with it. Drinks were the same as the food. Wildly overpriced and the bartender didn't seem to know what they were doing. So, fitting for the overall concept. I was excited about the new bar because we have an office down the street but this looks like a hard pass for me. 5 stars is for the staff because they were great.

The mall this place is in is a dump. There is a Mexican restaurant next door. I mention this because there is the crab/seafood menu and then there is an extensive Mexican food menu as well. I wonder if they just get the Mexican food from the restaurant next door? I don't know, nothing wrong in that. The tables have a paper "tablecloth" on them with plastic utensils. The reason for this is they don't use plates. They just bring you your seasoned seafood in a double plastic bag, and it is dumped out onto the paper "tablecloth". I saw this happening at the only other occupied table and immediately lost my appetite. My wife, undeterred, ordered some mussels. Ordinarily, we'll also order vegetables with any meal, but the side servings of vegetables are priced like filet mignon. I asked if I ordered the chips & guacamole, did it come with a serving of salsa? Alas, our server said no. What does a tiny amount of salsa cost a restaurant? 50 cents? So, I stuck with a glass of water. I was done. I couldn't bring myself to eat here. My wife ate a few of the mussels, digging them out from the plastic bags with her plastic fork. She said they were "ok" but we paid and departed, after a very poor experience. No pictures because I wasn't in the mood.

Authentic Island Flavors at Luau Grill…read more My wife, our three sons, and I recently stopped by Luau Grill in Thousand Oaks, and it was one of those spots that instantly makes you feel at home. With its true mom and pop shop feel, this place delivers not just on flavor, but on that welcoming, no-frills atmosphere that makes you want to come back again and again. Entrées: We ordered the chicken katsu and kalbi short ribs, and both were outstanding. The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying juicy and tender on the inside, paired with a flavorful sauce that brought everything together. The kalbi short ribs were just as impressive, marinated well with that sweet and savory balance you expect from great Hawaiian BBQ, and cooked to perfection with a nice char. Sides: Each plate came with white rice and macaroni salad, and both hit the mark. The rice was fluffy and a perfect base for the meats, while the macaroni salad was creamy, simple, and exactly what you want alongside a hearty Hawaiian meal. Appetizers: We also grabbed a classic spam musubi, and it did not disappoint. The spam was nicely seared with a slightly sweet glaze, sitting on perfectly seasoned rice and wrapped in seaweed. Simple, but done right. Ambience: The vibe here is as authentic as it gets. It truly feels like a small family-run spot where the focus is on good food and good service rather than anything flashy. That mom and pop atmosphere adds a lot of charm to the overall experience. Overall: Luau Grill is a must-visit if you're in Thousand Oaks and craving authentic Hawaiian food. Dining here with our three sons was easy and enjoyable, and from the quality of the dishes to the welcoming feel of the place, everything comes together for a great experience. Easily one of the best Hawaiian spots around, and definitely somewhere we'll be returning to.

Now I didn't care that they were making a comment on that, I didn't want to take offense but it was as if I wasn't important enough for them to care that I'm sitting right there while they have a full blown conversation about what I ordered. Now the food sadly was not good. I was expecting some real flavors. The chicken looked delicious but it has no flavor. Absolutely nothing. The hummus was very graining and not at all tasty like others I have had. The tzatziki sauce had too much lemon that it over power the flavor. I've gone to many Mediterranean style restaurants and I know that the hummus and sauces can be made different but this one was not good. The food was the pita bread, that was actually very tasty. The rice and vegetables again no flavor. I'm not sure if maybe this was a bad day for the cook becuase based on the reviews I really thought I was going to get some tasty food.
