    Vegetables Beef stir fry noodles
    Ellice W.

One of our go to places for pretty authentic Chinese food - if you know some Chinese, they'll offer you an assortment of options for vegetables for stir fry. We got the A-Cai stir fried with salted duck egg, which was the most delicious vegetable dish I've ever had in a restaurant. Stir fry beef noodles and walnut shrimp were solid. And their sesame beef roll/wrap is a must get (not pictured)

One of the many few restaurants open on Christmas day. My family and I don't have a traditional Christmas meal, as long as I have a warm meal in front of me I'm satisfied. Thankfully, Mandarin Bistro was open today and I was able to enjoy a delicious warm meal. It's my first time ordering food here and wow it definitely won't be my last. I had ordered the kung pao shrimp and mongolian beef which comes with choice of rice. I don't know how many times I said "mmmmmmm!!!" The food is just that good and so flavorful. I've tried other kung pao shrimp in the area and Mandarin Bistro knows where it's at. Overall very grateful, enjoyed my food and the portions were great. :D

Why does an entire table get kiddy cups of water when others don't.

Rated this 5 stars a few years ago. It was a weekly affair to dine there with 2 kids and weary parents. We were regulars. The gradual decline happened. Authenticity and technique are critical to Asian food. The gentle art of gracious hospitality in this day and age is disappearing. The older gentleman that used to run the floor, is now replaced by rude ex baristas that don't really care. Food is greasy, bland and in 3 of the dishes we ordered (broccoli, garlic chicken and fried rice) the raw garlic they used was sour - you know the flavor : the difference between pre chopped garlic in a jar va freshly peeled... but worse. Rice. Come on. It's a Chinese restaurant. They pulled it too early and the grains were still starchy. Sesame pockets were the hallmark of our previous visits but they are now a sad, microwaved shadow of their previous incarnation. "Is there anything else you need?" Was asked brusquely as she declared "Umm.... No" "Great" and she spun over heel and disappeared. Oh. You forgot a dish. Avoid this place. The previous owners had an amazing restaurant. PS. It's really rude to throw chopsticks on the table.

Delicious but super small sesame pockets.

We ordered takeout for Father's Day. Prices have gone up, as expected. Portions have gotten smaller, as expected. Wasn't expecting such TINY sesame pockets though! They were SO small that we each paused and stared in shock. The beef chow fun and green beans were tasty.

If you're in the mood for some FRIED RICE especially through the holidays or you're just a very busy person like me, give the MANDARIN BISTRO a shot! They made their famous DELUXE FRIED RICE in just 5 min for me as a TO GO order! And they didn't sacrifice Quality either. Meat had a lot more flavor than majority of other Asian food locations.

The food is reasonable but they always short change you on a dish for takeout . Always check the final product.

Are they closing? I saw a sign of a change of ownership so I don't know.

We are taking on business partners, we are all still here. Hope that helps!

What meal did you order? Would you order, the same meal on your next visit?

We ordered the steamed veggie dumplings, Walnut Prawns, scallion pancakes, Kung Pao Family and Sesame Pockets. YES YES YES.

I like the house special braised pork belly which is a caramelized and salty meat in a pot. Delicious with copious amounts of white rice. Some of my favorite items to get at this place are: -Stir fried intestines - these are cooked with spices and numbing pepper. The intestines taste like they were deep fried and have a crunch to them. -Mushroom medley - 3 different types of mushrooms in a brown sauce and some type of white meat. -Beef rolls - sliced beef inside a flaky savory pancake with hoisin sauce and cilantro This is a great spot for Hunan-style dishes that have the complex smoky, spicy, and numbing spice flavors. I'd go for those dishes over more traditional fried rice, beef and broccoli type Chinese food.

Broccoli Shrimp ($19): The broccoli was perfectly steamed, but the shrimp were a letdown Instead of the expected jumbo/large size, they were small (51-60 count) and lacked flavor Also, the peas and carrots felt out of place in this dish Spring Rolls: Crispy and worth the price! (Note: They were served with ketchup?, so have your own chili crisp ready) Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables (The Star!): Absolutely delicious Perfectly textured pork with just the right amount of fat-not too heavy or falling apart Even with the overcooked vegetables, this is a "must-order" again The Verdict: Good flavors on the traditional dishes; just wish the shrimp size matched the price point!

Was surprised to find such an authentic spot for Chinese in Oak Park!…read more I came by for a Mother's Day lunch with my family. When we arrived around 1 pm, the restaurant was maybe half full. But clearly it was popular as people were coming in constantly the entire time we were eating. Even though the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, most of the dishes on the menu were more like Sichuan dishes i.e. spicy. All of the food was super solid and portions were ginormous. My recommendation is to order 1 dish per person if you want leftovers, or order one less dish than the # of people if you want to finish most of the food. I don't handle spice very well, so we ordered a mix of spicy and non-spicy dishes. We shared the following: #1 Yunan rice noodles ($16.99) #32 scallion pancake ($8.99) #104 Chong qing fried chicken ($16.99) #107 braised pork belly with buns ($19.99) #109 boiled two items - fish and duck blood ($21.99) Given that the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, we felt like we had to order one of the most popular dishes from that region, the Yunan rice noodles i.e. crossing the bridge noodles. I really enjoyed the silky smooth mixian noodles as well as the flavorful broth. The fried chicken was too spicy for me; I ate one piece and my whole mouth was on fire. Everyone else said it was quite spicy as well, so eat this in moderation unless you can really handle your spice. The 3 pepper signs next to this dish on the menu are no joke! The braised pork belly was delicious, but portions were on the smaller side for this one. Still, I enjoyed making a little bun sandwich with the pork belly and pickled veggies. The boiled fish and duck blood was also super solid. It was just a little spicy, so I was able to manage a couple pieces with the help of rice on the side. Portions were very generous for this dish. We all ate lots of fish and duck blood and still had a ton left to take home. They also have some precooked 涼菜, i.e. cold dishes, on the side you can buy for dine-in or to go. We got 3 of the meats - pork tongue, pork head, and and beef tripe, to go. Paid $16.99 for a huge box of these meats. We thought this was a steal too. Can't wait to try some at home!
