I wonder if they just get the Mexican food from the restaurant next door? I don't know, nothing wrong in that. The tables have a paper "tablecloth" on them with plastic utensils. The reason for this is they don't use plates. They just bring you your seasoned seafood in a double plastic bag, and it is dumped out onto the paper "tablecloth". I saw this happening at the only other occupied table and immediately lost my appetite. My wife, undeterred, ordered some mussels. Ordinarily, we'll also order vegetables with any meal, but the side servings of vegetables are priced like filet mignon. I asked if I ordered the chips & guacamole, did it come with a serving of salsa? Alas, our server said no. What does a tiny amount of salsa cost a restaurant? 50 cents? So, I stuck with a glass of water. I was done. I couldn't bring myself to eat here. My wife ate a few of the mussels, digging them out from the plastic bags with her plastic fork. She said they were "ok" but we paid and departed, after a very poor experience. No pictures because I wasn't in the mood.

It's a massive space with a bunch of tables and nothing else. It's quite simply just odd. As for the food, it's not good. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Pretty bland and nothing is fresh. It's also outrageously overpriced. Chicken fajitas were meh and they were $27.00. We got shrimp and they were rubbery and came in a plastic bag, which was in a bucket. Weird. Also, no silverware. Only plastic. Just a headscratcher all around. The website says they have happy hour but they didn't have a separate menu. Just two dollars off drinks is what w were told. Probably why it was empty at 5:30. Also weird. They have this huge space and don't seem to have any idea what to do with it. Drinks were the same as the food. Wildly overpriced and the bartender didn't seem to know what they were doing. So, fitting for the overall concept. I was excited about the new bar because we have an office down the street but this looks like a hard pass for me. 5 stars is for the staff because they were great.

When our sister-in-law and two nieces were in town, the five of us were able to spend a quick evening together at Selvin's. We had been working on a project at our house, and by the time we got finished and ready to go out there wasn't a lot of time left as we went on a weeknight and they close at 9:00. I'm surprised that having a full bar, and being attached to a hotel property, that they would hang it up so early - even 9:30 or 10:00 would make more sense. It's such a charming place; seems a shame to have to call it a night so early. The ambiance is absolutely divine, especially out here in suburbia. It's very innovative in its layout. The lighting was carefully planned and is very effective in creating a special mood. And, what can be said about the wall of roses? It's tailor-made for snapping fun photos, that's for sure. The chef is sending out creative and Dee-Licious dishes from the kitchen. Yes, I know how to spell delicious, but it is worth adding the accented flair to stating the fact that this is a cut above many other dining establishments in the Conejo Valley. Dear Hubby and I shared Pappardelle Pasta and a Tuna Tartare appetizer. Both were excellent. One of our nieces ordered the taco platter. Wait till you see the photo. The only thing that was disappointing, menu-wise, was that bread wasn't included, so we ordered some as a side. Two little slices. I've forgotten the price, but I recall that it turned into sticker shock when we saw what was served. I'm tickled that they offer a nice array of zero proof cocktail options. Crisp, cold and fresh. The dressing was solid but I must highlight the lightly scattered capers on this salad - so smart and so tasty! Truffle French Fries: After a few martinis these French fries come in clutch. Crispy, hot and perfectly salted - who doesn't love a French fry and an aioli with a kick. Honorable Mention: PASTA. I was very impressed with my pasta dish here. Ordered the pappardelle bolognese and this pasta was a 10/10. Perfectly cooked ribbons of pasta with a hearty meat sauce and the Stracciatella topping sealed the deal for me on this pasta. We had a fabulous girls dinner from start to finish. The ambience at Selvin's is truly magical and we just love the decor and bar area. We had a cozy little booth to ourselves and the service was top-notch from start to finish.
