    Kung Pao Chicken
    Angel A.

I decided to give this place a try and ordered pick up for a quick meal. My family and I could not finish the meal. I had gotten a Kung Pao chicken family dinner and the chicken was so dry, the veggies might have been frozen, and the sauce was flavorless/watery. Service for pick up was standard. If you want good Chinese food, this isn't it.

    Large wonton soup

We enjoyed our second visit to Hu's. My wife and I had dinner. We shared and carried leftovers home of General Tso's Chicken with jalapenos and broccolli, it had great flavor with a hint of spicy heat. We shared a large bowl of wonton soup. They even have miso soup which my wife may get next time. We shared a few appetizers like pork fried eggrolls, fried crab rangoon. We'll be back.

The service was attentive and kind. Food was good but not something to rave about. The best dish we had was the mongolian beef.

I was literally the second person in line, and also ordered the soft shell crab and peppered tuna baos. It was just as I remembered. Quality small bites. The burrito was 15.00, and was a little too much to eat at one time. I ate about a quarter at a time, spread out through the next few meals. The restaurant is a few communal tables, mixed with some small tables for 2-4 people. I'll be back.

We ordered 3 baos: Korean chicken, bulgogi, and pork belly. The Korean chicken tasted like frozen chicken tender/patty with gochujang sauce on it. The bulgogi was like minced meat. Flavor-wise, it was better out of the 3, not too sweet, but the texture threw me off. The pork belly was thickly cut however it was dry and not tender which made it hard to eat. We also tried the viral crab rangoon burrito. It was heavily filled with cream cheese and not much crab. You definitely need to dip the sauce to pair with the creaminess, otherwise you would not taste anything besides fried cream cheese. Overall, I will say that this is not for me. But the staff were friendly and the service was good.

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

FOOD POISONING I…read morehate to give Kata a bad review because I actually enjoy eating here. However, I currently have food poisoning after eating here yesterday. 30 minutes after coming back from lunch break, I had diarrhea. I thought maybe it was just a bad day, but I am still suffering from this. I have to use the toilet many times a day, and I feel so nauseous. If it keeps getting worse, I am might have to consider going to urgent care. My boss ordered a salad that had the same veggies that came with the pan seared duck breast about a week ago, and also had diarrhea. He pieced two and two together. We believe that it's the veggies. I am worried that what I have is the parasite that's going around right now, cyclosporiasis. On another note, I wanted to try their specials. The lamb gyozas were okay. I didn't really like the skin of the gyoza, seemed a bit oily. I was excited to try the pan seared duck breast, but I found it to be a bit overcooked than what I usually have at other restaurants. A bit dry, kinda chewy, but the blueberry sauce was good. The salad that came on the side was good, but I believe that's what gave me diarrhea.

For drinks, I got the Mekhong Mojito and it was sweet and refreshing! For appetizers, we got the crispy squid and the crispy wonton- crispy squid was good but if you had to choose between the two, get the crispy wonton! As for the entree, I ordered the Khao Soi with shrimp and my friend ordered the spicy red snapper. The curry broth with coconut milk was fragrant and with the toppings that came on the side (i.e. lime, onions/shallots, mustard greens, etc) enhanced the dish. The flat egg noodles were bouncy and the shrimp was solid. If you're stuck between choosing a curry dish and a noodle dish, get the best of both worlds and order the Khao Soi! As for my friend's spicy red snapper, I tried a bite and the spices/texture in the dish complimented the fish very well. For dessert, we ordered the classic Mango Sticky Rice! The mango was soft/sweet, the rice and sauce had that salty coconutty flavor. Aside from the delicious food, the interior is cozy and the waiters here were friendly and gave great advice on what to order. They have that street food vibe as a well representation of their name, Rim Tanon, which means roadside. With dedicated parking that fills up quick during peak times, it may be difficult to locate parking as it is shared with a few other restaurants and the spaces are quite tight. We tried their appetizers including Salmon Rolls (flavorfully packed with cream cheese, salmon, and spinach in a crispy shell and loving that actually spicy mayo on the side), Thai Style Jerky (deep fried and sun dried marinated pork and beef served with sticky rice rolls and side spicy tamarind sauce, a bit too dry/chewy), Fried Tofu (perfect little triangles, so good by itself or with the side sweet and sour sauce with crushed peanuts), Chive Pancake (deep fried and chive packed triangles with a slight chew to it, great by itself or with it's spicy soy sauce companion). As for the mains, the Spicy Seafood Fried Rice is a good value as it was loaded with all sort of fruits of the sea (shrimp, squid, and mussel), with prominent lemongrass and kaffir lime aroma, but a bit wet or moist for a fried rice dish, the Crabmeat Omelet is served with a nice portion of lump crabmeat where you can taste the flavor of the seafood and add sriracha to liking, and the Beef Pad See Ew is made appetizing with wok charred flat rice noodles along with a savory blend of soy sauce, Chinese broccoli and egg. The portion size is alright and filling for a moderately hungry individual, though it would've been even better a tad bigger for those coming in hangry. I'll be back for more when I'm craving some modern Thai food and especially want to try their curry dishes. Service was quick and efficient, attentive to refills on drinks and friendly!
