    fish and chips

Came across this food truck while passing through Gold Beach on a road trip. Best fish and chips I've ever had. They have some picnic tables in an open-air parking lot to eat. Very casual, yummy eatery with a friendly owner.

a meal in a styrofoam container

Went to Hunger Paynes for lunch today. The people inside seemed nice and cordial, and I ordered a grilled sandwich from the menu. It was ready without much of a wait at all! The sandwich was pretty good, a little greasy but tasty anyway. I didn't notice until I was almost through with the sandwich that the sandwich had melted the styrofoam box it was served in....to late to take it back, and I figured they must have already known about the styrofoam box problem; I'm sure I wasn't the first person to have a grilled sandwich delivered in a styrofoam box there. What a shame. I attached a picture of the inside of the styrofoam box with an arrow showing where the sandwich had actually melted through and left a hole. You can also see an impression from where the sandwich was in the box. Beware.....

    Seafood combo

Fresh seafood. Owner runs the place. Says she gets seafood fresh at local seafood market. It shows. Melts in your mouth. Fries were good simple with sea salt. Could take it to the next level with garlic or rosemary. It's worth the visit. Located on 101 downtown south of the harbor.

Fish and chips. Fish was nice and flaky. Tartar sauce was perfect. Fries were yummy. Coleslaw was great.

Amazing crab melt and delicious, flakey fish tacos. We loved the baked goods as well. We will be back!

Stopped by as we were passing through. We had the Gooey Shrimp Sandwich (she was out of crab) and it was delicious.

Plus, they won't scramble the omelettes, but you can get scrambled eggs, which makes no sense. Ridiculous! I mean, come on! It was ok. Server was OK.

Immediately after sitting down, I felt like we had done something wrong. Our waitress seemed…read moreirritated with us from the start, and mind you all we had done was sit at the table she instructed us to sit at. For context, I've been a waitress on the coast for nearly 10 years, so I'm usually very mindful of not making a server's job harder, but this felt different. When we ordered, she came across as genuinely annoyed. Did she check on things like coffee? Yes, but with a look of annoyance that made the whole interaction uncomfortable. The food itself was mediocre at best. The gravy was meh, though the chicken fried steak was decent. The "hash browns," however, were not traditional hash browns, they were more like oven roasted potatoes smashed on the grill, which was disappointing if you're expecting the classic version. The pricing was another surprise. I work at a higher end restaurant, and their brunch prices are comparable to what we paid here, which says a lot, considering this is supposed to be a basic diner experience. When our food was dropped off, we were told the toast would be "just a minute." No problem, but when it finally arrived, it was completely cold, with unmelted "butter" that had little to no flavor. And as someone who grew up eating margarine and then transitioning to butter, I knew that this was margarine. My boyfriend who has never had margarine didn't understand why his butter didn't "taste like anything". Also worth noting, my partner ordered a side of sausage links, four small links for $9, yup your read that right, $9 dollars for a side of sausage. Overall, the service felt hostile with a fake mask, the food was mediocre, and the pricing didn't match the experience. As a person who was raised here on the coast and thought to "experience double d's diner again" since it has been a few years, I won't be returning.

Hey everyone has an off day just a bummer it was while we were there. The water had no ice and was warm, the beer was warm, the bread was dry, the steak skewers were overcooked, the cod was small and over cooked, very dry and there was more pesto then cod. The dessert the "mirage" was oddly texture, but this one was more a preference my wife liked it, I'm more a light, delicate mousse. This mousse was springy and the pastry didn't make sense. We literally had to ask him 3 times for sugar for my ice tea. The bread is a very different bread that didn't come with butter, the chowder wasn't served with crackers, and our waiter never once asked us how our meal was. It wasn't even busy when we got there for our reservation at 5:30pm and it still took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to get our food. Not once did our waiter ask if we needed more drinks or if we needed anything else. My chicken in my pasta dish was VERY over cooked, the fettucine was over cooked badly and the flavor of my pasta dish was not good at all. I literally barely ate anything. When our waiter picked up my dish he didn't even ask if it was ok, since there was so much of it left. Hands down the WORST dinner and staff experience we have ever had at Spinners. So unfortunately we won't go back. So sad how bad things have went down hill since the old owners retired. The Gifford's

What did we have to lose if made a quick drive by...just in case? As we drove up we saw a couple at the order window! We quickly walked up to the counter (while trying to act like we were not quickly walking up to the counter). Sheepishly we asked if they were still taking orders. They graciously said we could order! Thank you Neptune. Large clam chowder and a large fish and chips for me. Fish tacos for the SO. Did I want to start with my clam chowder? Yes please! Hot clam chowder with the cold sea air at your back. It was not a gourmet chowder that you could stand your spoon in. It was a comforting homemade chowder with the perfect clams to potatoes ratio, and it boy did it hit the spot! Arriving next was the generous portion of fish and chips. The fish was coated with light breading accompanied by a homemade sour cream based tartar sauce full of fresh herbs. The fish tacos were even better. The same fish filet covered with fresh cabbage, onions, tomato, and drizzled with a citrusy sour cream sauce. The SO claimed they were the best fish tacos she had ever had. My fish and chips were excellent, but I actually still had a little orderer's remorse after taking a bite of the fish tacos. One of the owners came by our table to bring some cocktail sauce and we remarked how fresh the fish was. She said that they just caught the fish yesterday. How can you not love a place that catches their own fish? Who does that in this day and age? Well, I hate to so boring, but here is another five star review to add to their collection.

It does take some time as they are busy. It took mine about 20 minutes to come out. So worth it though. All seating is outdoor picnic tables, or your vehicle. They also have free lemon water or you can order soda by the can. Worth 5+ stars.
